  • In this episode, Lyndsey & Brandie cover the movie “Girl, Interrupted,” a 1999 American biographical psychological drama film written and directed by James Mangold, and based on the 1993 memoir of the same name by Susanna Kaysen. Starring Winona Ryder, Angelina Jolie, Clea DuVall, Brittany Murphy, Elisabeth Moss, Jared Leto, Angela Bettis, Jeffrey Tambor, Vanessa Redgrave, and Whoopi Goldberg, the film follows a young woman who spends 18 months institutionalized at a psychiatric hospital following a suicide attempt.
    Here we provide our insights into not only the therapists in the movie, but the inaccurate depiction of certain mental illness that is portrayed in the movie & the harm that can be created by inpatient facilities as well as the lack of autonomy that clients face. The acting is incredible, we think the overall message is important, but we enjoyed getting the opportunity to give you some real-life insights that the movie missed!
