Microsoft put all their eggs in the Bethesda basket, but the eggs clipped through the basket and broke.
Arrow dupe and the eggs lagged their income until it crashed
It's a Bethesda's bug again 😭
😂😂😂
Bethesda is very specific. The company has never started being good. Already New Vegas in 2011 was outdated. Very specific fans make the company alive. If Fallout is made by a different company under Microsoft vision, people will forget Bugthesda exists
But the basket was 16x the detail.
starfield was a disaster. The way the `console wars` has set up the Them or Us mentality, i.e if you don`t have people who don`t have your system wanting that game, it failed. Those of us not involved in it, saw that the hype was not delivered in any way. Also, my Tsushima is cancelled, and hearing it`s not going to be available in the countries Helldiver`s wasn`t? tf are s0ny doing, too?
At this point, Xbox is getting into that "Disney Star Wars" territory where it doesn't even matter if the next product is good. The majority of their dwindling fanbase has gone through all the stages of grief and moved on to accept that their brand is cooked.
and the Brand Fans remain. sad to see
@@aVerySillyBillywhat are Xbox owners supposed to do, not use the $500 systems we bought?
@mycitysucks8096 PCs exist. Xbox is obsolete unfortunately. An if yall want to get what you paid for, protest gamepass, an go back to buying games so studios can can afford to make something that isn't complete trash.
Not anywhere close compared to the Star Wars IP. It’s a billion dollar generating product. There is just a disconnect between the old viewers and newer viewers.
@@Dad_NoirThe crazy is that Xbox tech os really good, even comparing what we have on PC, but there's no game dev using it.

Not everybody wants to be sitting at a desk with headphones, 3ft from a monitor pixel counting and sweating their @$$ off. Some people like relaxing in a lazyboy, controller in hand leisurely gaming on their 65" TV with what little time they have to do so, that is the general console gamer.

Asmongold suggesting that corporate leadership is known for taking responsibility for their failures is a truly comical take.
No, not that they "take responsibility" its the fact that in the eyes of everyone whether the CEO wants it or not all the failures and successes are put on them
Listen guys it’s pretty simple. Game pass has done to games what Netflix/HBO/Disney/prime vídeo has done to movies. You pay a subscription and you get lots of mediocre games and movies. This is the age of quantity over quality, it’s just that it is more noticeable in the gaming industry because it is still comprised of people that LOVE (mostly millennials) their hobby with true passion. You just can’t make memorable content on a subscription based platform. I can assure you that Netflix will never make a gem like The Gladiator just as game pass will never produce an OG halo CE quality game EVER again.
Everyone keeps talking about how great gamepass is but everytime I try to find a game that interests me on gamepass, I'm disappointed. PS+ has a better library
It's really not that complicated: if they released awesome exclusives none of this would be happening. If starfield, halo and redfall were amazing we simply wouldnt be having this conversation.
Microsoft also had supply chain issues, so they didn’t get off to a great start. Even though they had a console with better specs, plus game pass.
adorably no vr, no gyro, no adaptive triggers, no haptics. TWO machines every dev hates. fk xbox.
Their games are so bad that Sea of Thieves are among the top ten most played games on Playstation LOL
There is a long time Playstation is not releasing exclusives, and specially good exclusives, (Rise of Ronin for instance) and the argument that you can only play playstation games on playstation is long gone as well, recently they announced Ghost of Tsushima for PC
The fact that matters is, a lot of things you guys are complaining about Xbox, is also happening on the other side
One of the reasons Xbox is firing so many people now, is that they bought, Bethesda, Activision, and so on, some of the people who work there are doing the jobs that other Microsoft employees are already doing LOL
Not defending Xbox, but this console war nonsense is quite boring
@RenanMendes-zd8hj very well said .. we have to hear the fan girl crys .. in the real world with real gamers we know ALL OF GAMING SUCKS .. it's not just xbox .. they both are dropping the ball
@@RenanMendes-zd8hj This has nothing to do with console wars, it's simple logic, Xbox doesn't have good games, playstation does. Sure PlayStation started releasing some of their games on pc, but that's the thing it's only "some" and even then they only do it long after the games initial release (ghost of Tsushima is 4 years old at this point), so fans still get something out of buying a PlayStation console, unlike Xbox.
i would buy a console if i would not have to pay yet another subscription to use my already payed for internet for most games online features

Fair point but I do feel that most pc gamers when mentioning this don't bring up how you have to buy parts for your pc especially if you want to play new games at 60 fps then you'll be getting a upgrade quite often but ig depending on the price of these parts and how often you have to buy them could still be more affordable in the long run maybe.
@@gamer597-rx7rc That isn’t really true. There are PC gamers that can’t afford to upgrade too much. I have a friend that still is on Pascal. A GPU from 7 years ago and can still run games fine at 1080p (they don’t plan on upgrading resolution)
Also depends on the game. If you’re talking about extremely unoptimized games nowadays, then yes the most cost inefficient way is to upgrade. But with Ryzen staying with the platform vs the people that bought into a Xbox One X and then a Series S and X comes out + paying for Xbox Live every month usually adds up or even Gamepass. Whilst, you buy your parts new or used, assemble the PC and you are able to swap parts to improve performance instead of a full system upgrade or increase storage without paying a huge price premium.
While on PC, we can still mod games like FNV, Mass Effect, Witcher, Fallout 3/4, EA’s Battlefront 2. Starfield even has mods to try and make it better. Cyberpunk 2077 mods also are really solid.
Most hardware on the PC market is just selling a GTX 1080 TI. Don’t believe me? RTX 2070 Super/RX 5700XT, RTX 3060 TI/RX 6600 and the RTX 4060. These GPUs are too emulate one of the best GPUs in gaming. And the funny part is this, PC allows you to upgrade with the existing platform easier. While those that bought into the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X got caught with their pants down.
@@gamer597-rx7rc there are enough people who constantly have to upgrade their pc because they have enough money or are "freaks" but it's far from necessary - it depends on your requirements and if you don't want more than 60fps for example you won't have to spend anywhere near 1000€ - then you dont have a monthly subscription and get all those steam sales + you are not "trapped" in the playstation/xbox universe
If you have good parts you probably can play any game in history of human kind , so it kind of overwrites everything @@gamer597-rx7rc

Sony: Censorship and shitty rules

Nintendo doesn't abuse copyright, you're just parroting what you've heard and don't know about. Nintendo sending a cease and desist (which people always pretend happens constantly, when it doesn't) has never resulted in anyone going to court, and is done because of a history Nintendo has with almost being horribly hurt by weird western copyright laws. It should also be noted that Nintendo is the one non-American group you mentioned, and copyright laws are very different in Japan. Steam is not comparable to those others, it's not a game dev, it's not even a console dev excluding the Switch ripoff, but that's Valve, not Steam. But if we're saying one is the other, Valve pulled one of the most terrible embarrassing fumbles in all of gaming history, by fucking up Half Life with ever changing plans about how to continue it and then...not.... You said it yourself, funnily enough, you basically said the big criticism about Valve, "chillin", that's right, they're doing nothing. It's been so long that people only think of them as a game market, and sure, a game market that is hands off is a good thing, but Valve just chillin is not good, it's actually very sad and embarrassing. To my my opinion the biggest mistake they made was not wanting to be the "dude bro console" anymore, heck former 342 studio head Bonnie Ross stated to the Washington Post in an interview and reaction on the bad reception of the Halo series. That for more than a decade they tried to replace the o. fans with a new modern fanbase, and perceived the o.g. fandom to be a threat to Halo. I never understood why this interview wasnt picked up by the gaming community. Or Matt Booty his words years ago, that Perfect Dark & Fable remakes would be as authentic as possible; but that it would be remakes for a "modern global audience". And that The Coalition would go further with the path they went on (which most fans didnt liked) Gears. I think they already messed up way before the Activision take over.
That would of only took them so far. Can’t survive off that alone
As Chris Gore put it about Hollywood, so much of what ails modern entertainment comes from trying to make line go up forever by turning boy brands into girl brands.
There is a tiny little niche of boys who want to play with Barbies and girls who want GI Joes, and those kids are already happy with those toys as they are. Trying to make everything for everyone just means nobody wants it anymore.

Guys this is happening in every consumer based industry. Housing prices are tanking everyone's bank accounts and consumers aren't spending. Retail and the fast food industry is having the same problem, people are just broke
the ones who will survive are the ones who still say ''customer'' as it should be
@kokocaptainqc it's a symptom of cost of living increasing 40% on top of inflation and the luxury and entertainment industry is suffering the worst. People can't afford to spend money, corporations in a capitalist economy by law have to show growth each year and when people stop buying they have to cut costs. There have always been bad games but people aren't buying anything right now
It's a mixed bag; you're right about the insane cost of living crisis right now globally, but that alone doesn't absolve Microsoft/Xbox from their share of the blame. For example, take Starfield, which was mediocre at best, but cost an absurd amount of money to make. One could very easily argue that had Starfield simply been a "better" game, and had avoided Game Pass, its sales would've been substantially better. No one would really disagree with this notion, because it's true. Similarly, had they also tapered their budget, the impact of their failure would've also been substantially less painful.
Take Persona 3 Reload for example. They cleverly resused assets from Persona 5, and are also reusing assets for their upcoming game Metaphor Refantazio, to heavily save on unnecessary expenses. They also put out an excellent game, that was loved by critics and fans alike, and despite signing a limited time deal on Game Pass, sold over 1 million copies in a few weeks, across all platforms, all at $60. People still spend money on "good" games. And those "good" games still make money, while paying their employees. Xbox just have nothing to write home about. Nintendo also proves this annually.
@anshuman6923 you're absolutely not wrong. A huge problem in the executive world is that they sit in these board meetings and all it takes is for some majority shareholder to come up with some off the wall idea and the board chair turns to the CEO's and tells them to make it happen. These CEO's are just figureheads that have almost zero control over bug decisions. In a Capatlist economy this is how things are done. I run a business and I have to deal with the same thing.
3:45 Exclusivity used to be games that would be a risky investment for 3rd party publisher and Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo would take the financial risk for a different "out of the box" game franchise.
A recent exemple would be Helldivers & Helldivers 2 or if we go back in time, Naughty Dogs and Insomniac are a good example of that with Jak and Daxter & Ratchet and Clank. And much of Nintendo portfolio.
Now it's a thug of war about who can snatch the most 3rd party publishers / developers. That is a shitty situation.

XBOX Is the gaming equal to Disney, buying everything up and doing nothing with the beloved properties
Nothing good.
I'll add on to your point like a micro dlc is to the main game: To this day,Disney has had BlueSky wasting away in the background ever since they bought them before or after the release of Spies in Disguise. (They have not made any other full-length movie since 2019)
The most depressing part is how they defunct the studio/brand in 2021,essentially "Fate:Closed"
Now, apparently, the successor brand is just 20th Century Animation but that's always been an active main studio, not even a new brand.
it`s vile how they`ve done it
it's not like they did nothing, they did something by making the IPs bad. A lot of these companies forget customer experience trumps all, this is basics of business 101. A lot of these big companies only look at what gets them the biggest short term benefit at the risk of long term benefits.
Game-pass at the top of that is just overkill for them.
Exclusive games DRIVES competition which is extremely consumer friendly because then you just buy from the winning side and the consumers win for example: when EA got exclusive rights to madden the madden brand dropped hard because they didn’t have to compete with 2k anymore
Edit: you yourself gave an example of Sony pushing Xbox to improve to try to be competitive
Exactly, these people who cry “no exclusives” really are just pushing a future where everybody games on STEAM and there’s zero competition in the industry… that’s how you get another video-game crash, folks.
The fuck? EA and sports games… good… this is satire right
@@Ithoughtthiswasamerica not wrong, as a pc gamer i like no exclusives but as a consumer i understand that in order for xbox to make ANY changes it has to be because sony and nintendo made the change 1st, i like good games and god forbid if xbox quits the console wars sony will get lazy and will be xbox all over again

Phil took a gamble on attempting to get Redfall ready and it didn't work.
It was obvious Phil Spencer was desperate to get a game out since at the time there was nothing released for months and especially after failing to deliver the twelve games for that year and only managed to release three of them.
This push from Phil Spencer caused Arkane Austin to release earlier than projected.
Phil has openly admitted and taken full responsibility for Redfall and the contradiction is Arkane Austin took the hit instead.
Did Phil hasten the deadline? My understanding was that Arkane wanted to axe the game because it was so bad, but instead Phil "forced" them to keep making it.
If he took actual responsibility, he would have resigned and left his bonuses to the studio in their place.
@@TheMasterblahthis is what i heard as well. Xbox let the studio be themselves and they were forced to do redfall by Bethesda without inspiration. They wanted xbox scrap the project but xbox let Bethesda manage themselves. Not xboxs fault fully since it started before the merger but they also left them fully independent. So its xboxs failure. No studio is releasing 12 games a year as well its physically impossible. A good game takes 2-10 years to make aaa.
Bethesda just got ripped to shreds caught because xboxs expected profits are low overall. Why fix and finish Redfall when they have cod $$$ and elderscrolls $$$. Basically xbox could of fixed it all and released crossplatform like they wanted but greed killed them while they didnt have a future project started. The entire gaming industry lost its soul when Xbox live market place became a thing and they sold the first dlc. They realized they could gut games in development and sell you the other parts and on top of that put them behind a paywall to even be allowed to purchase. It’s a giant scheme.
PS3, Xbox 360, and the Wii in the early part of that cycle was the last good times to own a game console. I’ve been PC gaming since the end of that generation and haven’t looked back.
The problem with Starfield is that it was chasing a trend that had already been proven faulty years ago during No Man’s Sky initial release. Procedurally generated worlds in a vacuum are boring AF. And after the debacle that was Fallout 76, that was not the comeback Bethesda needed.
But there's a thousand planets with nothing to do!

Winning the console wars needs a definition. If you're selling the box at a loss or very small profit, it's about selling games and subscriptions to make profit.
adorably no vr, no gyro, no adaptive triggers, no haptics. TWO machines every dev hates. fk xbox.
The box is a gateway to your ecosystem. There is a reason why Microsoft and Epic is trying to break up Apple and Google’ duopoly. Both can make their own phones but it would be very difficult to take their market share. This is why they are trying to break their closed platform to make more money. It is about the consumer! It is about making more money! Xbox wouldn’t be doing day and date with PC if they sold 100 million consoles.
Playstation player base is twice if not more than xbox.
Sony won enough said. Xbots and nintenboys cry harder.
You don’t make a profit on the console, you capture the customer base with it, keep them hooked with the exclusives and make money on all the 3rd party games they buy because they are bought into your platform. Currently, Microsoft is failing to retain any customers because they lack the exclusives to keep them hooked to the platform. It has been like this for about 10 years now. You can afford a few years without exclusives. Not 10
If they can't even make good Halo's, how can you trust them in the slightest.
As a physician I can confirm this is a battle
The big companies don't produce games anymore. They produce assets to sell. That's one reason for why "AAA games" feel more and more bland. The need to be profitable is only increasing the larger those companies become. Its not enough to be profitable for the sake of making good games. The pressure is up to please investors and parent companies.

@@Liza-lm8vq The trouble is that they have to *spend* so much on the content. It's the same problem as Netflix and Spotify. @@Liza-lm8vq They made 230million in revenue but it doesn't mean it is profitable.

To be honest. Gamepass killed the Xbox console. There is no way Microsoft is paying developers enough to makeup for individual sales. Sure maybe a couple games but overall no way. They should have followed Sony's strategy by investing in the companies they bought, and put out quality exclusives for their console, and then PC release atleast 6 months to a year later. That would have kept Xbox relevant and possibly the best place to game while making Microsoft the money they want.
All the poorly developed games xbox keeps regurgitating is direct proof of how horrible gamepass is for studios. Why spend the money and effort when your hard work will be given away for free lol.
Whilst that's not untrue, I think the lack of exclusives and the fact that the console has very little innovation (Sony provides haptics, adjustable triggers, VR etc) has made the platform rather redundant. Many, including myself feel that they just don't care about console gamers anymore. I'm selling mine next week.

Completely wrong about gamepass versus PS Plus. PS Plus outsells it almost two to one. (PS+ is roughly 50 mil and gamepass is roughly 30 mil). I only recently got a PS5 and was absolutely staggered how much PS+ has been stepped up from years ago. You can be completely satisfied with many exclusives and amazing games for literal years with the line up on PS Plus. And I formed this decision after thinking Gamepass was incredible, and it is great. But PS Plus is even better for me
You just dont hear so much about ps plus. Reason is, its just one of many things us ps players have that add value. Gamepass is literally the ONLY Selling point Xbox fans come up with regarding their console, so its more in the conversation, whereas ps plus is just a Nice thing for us.
also would like to mention that the standard sub for PS+ comes with a monthly rotation of free games that you keep forever. a lot of the time, there are amazing titles offered too; they don’t just give throwaway games. it gives PS+ far more value then it just being a sub for access to online play. plus the deals :)

exclusivity is the best thing about the AAA games industry. it's what makes a very dedicated and talented set of developers try their hardest to produce amazing games that will actually sell consoles and push the industry forward.
the only alternative that could ever achieve a similar effect would be if there was somehow just a single gaming platform, but at the same time this single gaming platform wasn't governed by any entitety that has an interest in selling the games that some of these developers make over selling others - so everyone would again be in the same situation of trying their hardest to actually make good products.

I have been hearing for multiple generations that "this will be the last console generation." It's never true, because console sell well. As long as it continues to be profitable, they will keep doing it. And contrary to what Asmongold says, the userbase is actually getting larger not smaller. People want the simplicity and ease of access that a console provides. It reduces friction, gets more people playing video games. This will always be true.
Cloud gaming is never going to be a console or PC level competitor. It's not economical to put thousands of PS5's worth of hardware in every city to get latency to a playable level (and it'll still be awful for competitive games). Bandwidth is expensive too, it's much more economical for them to just have you download the game once to a box that you're paying the power bill for instead of continuously encoding 1080p to 4K video at 60-120 fps at a decent quality level and uploading it to you.
For reference, a 1080p Netflix stream uses about 3-4GB per hour, most of their content is only 24-30FPS, and I personally consider the quality bad. Keep in mind that with HDMI 2.1, the cable connecting your console to your TV can send up to 48Gbps with no latency.
So yeah, I personally think cloud gaming will only ever be a serious threat to smartphone gaming.

Game boy isn't dead, it's just called switch now... saying game boy is dead is like saying "playstation" is dead because no one plays a ps1 anymore.... game boy is as similar to switch as ps1 is to ps5. Basically there is the the companies console lineup and then portable lineup. Just because a company changes the name doesn't mean it's previous gen is "dead", it just evolves with the new generation release, just like ps1 evolved into ps5, and the Sony PSP to the Sony Vita. The only ones that really died are labeled "DEAD" below:
### Company Console Line ###
Nintendo: NES > SNES > N64 > NGC > Wii > Switch/Lite/OLED > Switch 2 (TBA)
Sega: SMS > Genesis/SegaCD/32X > Saturn > Dreamcast > DEAD
Sony: PS1 > PS2 > PS3 > PS4 > PS5
Atari: 2600 > 7800 > Jaguar > DEAD
Microsoft: Xbox > Xbox 360 > Xbox One > Xbox Series X/S
### Company Portable Lines ###
Atari: Lynx > Lynx II > DEAD
Sega: Game Gear > Nomad > DEAD
Sony : PSP/Go > Vita > DEAD (for now...)
Nintendo: GB/Pocket/Light > GBC > GBA/SP/Micro > NDS/Lite/DSi > N3DS/N2DS> Switch/Lite/OLED > Switch 2 (TBA)
The only console that might confuse people I'd say would be the switch, which is basically a console and portable... I classified it as both, some might classify it as one (and consider the other lineup "dead for now"), to each their own there.
Exclusivity is necessary for a platform like Sony and Nintendo to be successful
Exactly, and the vast majority of first party games on each platform would not exist without Nintendo/Sony anyway.
agree exclusivity is both positive and negative i want to have a reason to get a nintendo or ps
console market share has dropped every year for a decade. Nintendo 2022 earnings 12 billion. Sony was 36 billion. Tencent 2022 earnings 80 billion. Exclusives are irrelevent to console growth. That why the console install numbers havent grown since ps2/ds days.
I hate exclusivity. Game Pass Ultimate is actually what made me buy both Xbox S and X. Cuz I was now able to play on these consoles and my PC. PC is where I played all of my games in the past. These days I play on both platforms for various reasons. That is very important to me.
Disagree. You're not considering that there are gamers more casual than you.
Based on the Xbox quote about Hi-Fi Rush's success, I think they may have planned on closing the studio even before the game dropped. Listen to it again with this in mind. 1:38 The fact that the game was shadow dropped could also point in this direction. Why spend marketing budget on a game from a studio you're planning to axe? I wonder what great game Tango wanted to make next that Xbox also didn't believe in.
So exclusivity isn't just simply a fuck you to consumers. It actually does help developers ship out a game faster, like Asmon said, by allowing the devs to optimize a game for a singular platform first, gauging the sucess on the limited install base to check if they can feasibly launch on other platforms, and allows for less crunch while minimizing budget expenditure.
For instance: Imagine the even more disastrous turn of events for Microsoft if Arkane Houston made Redfall multiplatform instead of just on Xbox/Gamepass. They would have:
1. Spent too many work hours on a game that takes away from other projects
2. Spent money on a game that didn't sell well on its only platform and would have been a bigger money sink if it was other platforms
3. Have to follow up with optimizations for other platforms on an already dying game.
In the end it didn't matter cause even on the single ecosystem it still failed, and Arkane Houston got axed
A positive example is FF7 Rebirth. The FF7 Remake Trilogy team was able to crank out a sequel to Remake in just 3 years from start to finish DURING Covid because:
!. They kept the exact same team of devs who knew the project already
2. Only had to develop for the PS5 initially (and were able to put out two demos that got updates as well as quick post-launch fixes).
Even with how much people hate on Square and Sony for only making the games PS5 timed exclusive, they saw how popular the last installment was and instead made the game a 3 month exclusivity this time around because they knew from the word of mouth about how good the game is.
well if it`s not timed, i`d argue it definitely is. then again, the thing is a company doesn`t have to make a product for anyone else. tldr i want Bloodborne on pc.🤐
True. Cyberpunk had a disaster start mostly because the company couldn't properly do a PC and consol version. And Microsoft didn't allow them to release the PC version a year before the the consol one.
Yeah, even the director of FF16 said that if they had to focus on more platforms, the game wouldn't even release in 2023. That's also for example, why GTA6 is releasing only on consoles first and then they are optimizing it for PC. Triple-A games are taking more and more time to develop these days.
That's why it's more mind boggling that they're trying to get away from the xbox platform and get into multiplatform. We're gonna be waiting even longer for shittier games.
Also gives us more competition giving us more games. Like who wants less games, coming at a slower rate. Looking at you baldy.
I also think Xbox will fade into a handheld device before it disappears forever.
Closed gaming can’t happen until high speed internet is actually available. Internet infrastructure in the US is still really really bad or just non existent if you get out of a city. I had to get starlink because the copper lines out by me don’t work
It's simple. After making all those acquisitions, they NEEDED Starfield, RedFall and other exclusives to be smashing financial successes, and they simply weren't. The problem with letting the studios do their own creative thing without proper oversight is that failure will smack them in the face. I don't think they anticipated Starfield and RedFall being failures at all, because they were being hands-off with the studios. Keep in mind, being hands-off is what people say they want from publishers, but then it results in this. Now Spencer and the team are scrambling to save Xbox financially, as I suspect that after all that acquisition spending and subsequent exclusive failures there's talk about discontinuing hardware development. And while they do try to save Xbox, the games media is eviscerating them for closing studios and letting people go. So they're definitely in a dicey position right now.
I hate exclusives, but they're the only thing keeping this big studios in check for quality of a AAA game. 80% of people favorite games have been Sony for a while now like God of war 1 and 2, Spiderman 1 and 2, last of us, ghost of sushi-man, timed exclusives.
Having an exclusive is the only incentive of quality standards for these company's. Microsoft thought they could just throw money out of house and call it a day.
