4:18 I remember playing this as a 9 year old when it first came out. My older brother got it and I’d play when he wasn’t. It was some creepy shit playing this game alone at night. The musical score really set it off. It made those random buffed demons that much more terrifying. This is game will always have a special in my heart.
I played this when I was 10 or so. It scared me like a horror game but I couldn't stop. I remember my heart pounding as I fought the butcher, Lazarus and Diablo. Nothing has matched that sustained tension and atmosphere
I came into work at a software store to find the older employee glued to the screen all day. The demo computer suspiciously broke and needed to be replaced by a better one, for some reason...
I was 6 when this game dropped, and without an older sibling I was out of luck to play such a game. When I was 10 I told my mom you can turn the gore off in Diablo 2. You can't, but she didn't need to know.
Honestly I love D1 and 2, they are both horror games, both nailed RNG-ARPG and form a foundation of what I consider excellent ARPG design. Like Quake, Dune II, Diablo all form the basis of my favourite games. The Butcher scared the crap out of me and so did King Leoric. The slow corruption of the world, the twisted wails of Farmham, and Adria/Griswald's PTSD. But gah I so agree on the backtracking that was so tedious. I first played this when I was 7. It was a foundational experience for me. I love it to death. Especially lightning Sorceror.
Yes, but get the version on GOG, not Blizzard. It has more content such as Hellfire, and the utility improvements that came with that expansion, like faster walking in town and difficulty levels for single player. While the expansion story is not that great, the utility improvements are certainly worth it in my opinion, and can be applied to the Vanilla game.

My mother dont wanted to buy me the game until I told her its actualy not about worshiping, but killing the devil.
Sounds about right for my family growing up too. Ex homeschooler here, lol.
It’s weird that you consult your mother on the games you buy. You sound like a wiener
This was exactly the same for me when I wanted to buy Diablo 2. Once she knew I was killing demons, not playing as one, she was OK with it
good music and enjoyable death animations are important.
Should I play it for ten bucks?
