Ray, I like that watch face with select Apps readily available. Couldn't find it on Samsung Gear? Do you (or anyone) know the name of that face option - or one similar?
Search "Ray Hope" that was my second design. I have much better ones now. Check this one out: Samsung Gear S3 & S2 Digital Luxury Sports App Launcher 3D watch faces available in the Samsung Apps store. 12h Version: apps.samsung.com/gear/appDetail.as?appId=com.watchface.Luxury.3D.Sports.Digital.12h 24h Version: apps.samsung.com/gear/appDetail.as?appId=com.watchface.Luxury.3D.Sports.Digital.24h
I know you mentioned before you got the LTE version of the s3. so does standalone mode mean you're using the LTE on the watch? or is the video showing us watch the watch can do completely independent of LTE and connection to a phone?
I found the standalone GPS totally inaccurate compared to my phone and Garmin by 10%. It also varied when using the walking option and running options. I have now sent mine back as it was too unreliable in standalone mode.
Hey man. Good vid, Nice to see that it works. My s3 watch is not tracking the distance im cycling running walking etc.. And I dont know why!? GPS positioning is on, so i dont get it. I tracked cycling to the station this morning, told me i drive 4 min but a distance of 0.00.. You got amy idea why that is? Keep up the good vids!
I sometimes had trouble with the GPS getting an initial location in stand alone mode. I had to wait till it started giving the location before I started my walk. See 1:12 in this video.
This may be a very dumb question but can I use strava with this watch?... I bought the fitbit ionic a couple weeks ago and I do love the ionic but kind of considering taking it back for the Frontier to take advantage of more of the "smart" features... I cycle 100-150 miles a week, would this be a good choice?? I also use my Garmin edge 520 for every ride
What I'd like to know is if this watch is good for trekking, I mean, I want to track a whole day with the standalone GPS and I also want to be able to go back by the same path as the watch is navigating me, is it possible with the frontier? I can do that with my super old Geonaute keymaze 500.
I understand that I need to wait until the GPS locates where I am before I start my run. But the time has started, thereby making my times inaccurate. Am I doing something wrong? I just press 'start running' in S health, but the time starts before it has located the signal. So the time is wrong, or I start straight away and the distance is wrong. Hmmm.
okay. I'll try that. It seems a bit messy, but that should at least give me accurate stats. Maybe it's something for Samsung to think about. Thanks again for your help.
Sure. I mean I start the Speedometer app first. It is the app from Samsung. You need to download it. It is free and called Speedometer For Gear. You can see me using it in my other video here ua-cam.com/video/B3t_96uqnGc/v-deo.html. Sometimes it takes a while for it to locate the GPS, so I go standalone and start the speedometer app well before I start my work out.
Does it give driving directions? I have a Bluetooth com system in my motorcycle helmet and I'm trying to figure out if it will feed driving directions to my helmet.
You can see at 2:57 the battery is at 79% after about an hour of walking + me shooting the video and a bit of time before I went walking. So it should last at least 5 hours.
Ray Hope Make The Impossible Possible thank you Ray Hope Make The Impossible Possible. It's pretty decent battery life if it actually lasts 5 hours or so in active GPS mode. Did you get a chance to log something like a marathon or a Grand Fondo with it?
For GPS Navigation to work properly, should I have Gear S3 Frontier LTE version or is it possible to navigate offline? In case I'm in woods forgetting to bring my phone along, am I lucky to get the maps showing on my Smartwatch? Thanks in advance!
Dear Ray, I have a problem, could You help Me ? I'm going to run with my S3 frontier (GPS:ON) without mobile. After running I see on my S3 all data about run (speed etc..) including graphic map of run. And when I come home, my watch are synchronised with my mobile (samsung S5). Than I turn on SHealt (in mobile) i see all data from watch, but wihout graphic map. Why ? Could you help me ? I see it in watch but in mobilephone no ..
The GPS app I downloaded from the Samsung app store. It was Samsung's free GPS app. The walking app was S-Health. Now called Samsung Health. It came installed on my watch, but you should be able to get it from the Samsung app store.
Would love to know how your watch is so accurate, my Gear S3 Classic its a good half KM out in standalone mode . Its the only disappointing thing about this watch.
Do you wait till the watch finds the GPS signal before starting? I have noticed it can take quite a while for it to find a GPS signal in stand alone mode, so it might be missing part of your workout. I turn the speedometer on first and wait till it finds a GPS signal, then switch to the walking app in S Health to start tracking.
I tested it on a second run today and waited until the white GPS symbol had stopped flashing and then kept an eye on it for the whole run to see if there was any signal loss. There didn't seem to be. I also tested it against my phone while watch was in standalone. End of the run my phone accurately gave a reading of 7.5 km whereas my watch said 8.2 km. I can only think that it's a combination of poor GPS signal and low grade GPS chip in the Gear S3. Any other ideas welcome!

It would be good to take a dedicated GPS along to find out if either Samsung device was correct.
Does Gps in Samsung gear require mobile data?
No it doesn't need mobile data for the GPS, but if you want to see the map you need mobile data, wifi or Bluetooth connection to your phone.
Ray I brot a gear s3 Bluetooth variant how do I use GPS navigation pls help me I use a non Samsung phone?

Yeah I'm sure someone else asked about strava and it can export data to strava via Samsung Health app.

A whole day on GPS might really test the battery. I would depend on what app you use on the watch.
I understand that I need to wait until the GPS locates where I am before I start my run.

Not on this app.
Love the watch face. What is it?

Alejandro V 2004 Chevy reset a.c. computer
would u recommend it over garmin fenix 3(tecnically)
I haven't tried any garmin watches.
How long should I expect the battery to last in standalone gps tracking mode while running or cycling?
You can see at 2:57 the battery is at 79% after about an hour of walking + me shooting the video and a bit of time before I went walking. So it should last at least 5 hours.

See 2:48. GPS works offline, but no maps without LTE, wifi, or bluetooth connection. Other apps may be able to save apps for offline use.
For some reason the map doesnt show on my phone but does on S3 any help? al the rest is same but doesnt show a map
Strange. not sure why sorry.
If i go to run is it nessesarry to take my phone and my watch too. Or is the watch alone enough
?
Depends which version you have. I just take the watch.
can this watch do back tracking like fenix sapphire 3?
No reason it couldn't if you can get a navigation app with that feature. The S-Health app I was using doesn't have navigation, it was just tracking.
Many thanks, helped me sort a few things out.
Can you navigate with it?
Yes there are some navigation apps, but there are not that good in my opinion. Hopefully some better ones will come out.
nice video Ray!
Thanks. I really appreciate your support :-)

LTE model, but not connected to network as eSim not available in Australia :(
