I have been using Gear S3 Frontier (no LTE) for a year, which cost here more than 500 US$, now about 350-400. It is not for precise tracking of your sports activity. Before I had used an entry level Sigma for 120US$. It was way more accurate, however I had to use it with a chest belt, not too comfortable. On the other hand, although quite expensive, Gear S3 is a good fun, especially watch faces and finally a smart watch looks like a real watch, not a calculator or a cheap toy for kids :)
Loving your videos. I'm living in Brisbane. I told you previously that I was going to buy the gear s3. I bought the s3 and download 2 of your watch faces. Loving them all. I would love join you one day to do some of your cross fit exercises.
Thanks. I really appreciate your support :-) You can catch me at this meetup most Saturday mornings. www.meetup.com/Brisbane-Fun-Active-Healthy-Living-Meetup/events/237259040/ I'll be there today.
NIce review, was and am looking for heart rate reviews of the s3 frontier and how accurate it is. I seem to have a low heart rate, walked 9.5 plus miles at work today, (work at wally world) and I move at a good clip, not just a casual pace, work up a good sweat indoors with a/c, gonna try my watch tomorrow outside in full sun with temps in the high 80's to low 90's, will wear the watch very snugly. I am frustrated at not getting a higher heart rate, struggling to loose the extra 35 plus pounds around my waste... will try to post my results here on this page after I mow grass tomorrow with push mower... thanks again for the review.. and btw.... LOVE my S3 Frontier....
there's no point measuring it being still. it will easily get it right. The real deal is a continuous chart, comparing both. movement and change is the cause of problems in readings.
Wondering, did you try wearing it on the inside of the wrist? At least when you're trying to measure higher heart rates... personally I've worn all the watches I've come by on the inside, mainly for the heart rate. Started with the Band 2 which I miss.
I think you should swap them round. The S3 ’looks’ at the veins over the top of your wrist there . You start the S3 going and then press the in body into your wrist which will restrict the flow in your veins for the S3. Probably why it struggles.
Coming from a fitbit I hate the S3 does not calculate heart rate towards calorie burn...uses a generic calories burn based on height and weight....good smartwatch but horrible fitness tracker, going back to my fitbit
Dont buy the ionic. Its full of bugs, syncing issues, sonr apps dont work, clock faces are not showjng weather. Thd main weather app dont not work now. Been researching this and apple have the more accurate HR. they all ether skip, droppout or fail to get a hr with really workung out hard. They are only good for light to moderate exersing. Both the Samsung and apple are better tgan fitbit or garmin. I am more interested in accurate hr monitoring. But none of these watches are perfect.
Not constant, but it samples at a regular rate and plots a curve of heart rate when you access the data on your watch or phone. I don't think it connects to a chest band.
I use a fitbit Alta HR & it's annoying I have to sync every night to my fitbit app on my phone (resets/clears at midnight). Does the Samsung Gear S3 store all workouts over a week or month to later sync to your phone or when needed? Great video by the way, keep up the excellent work. I go to the gym & get enough fitness at work, I may consider getting one (or not)
My Gear S3 just syncs to the Samsung Health app on my phone all by it's self. It does it regularly through the day. I can force it to do a sync at any time as well. It doesn't lose data at midnight. I haven't tried having it disconnected from my phone for a week or month to know how long it stores data.
Is there an app to enter reps and weight for custom workouts that I create on the S3? Don't care about any of the other data, just want to be able to enter those things rather than keeping a journal.
There are a few different 3rd party apps like Stayfit+ & Gym Gear that are useful in the gym, but not exactly what you are after. I used to use a spread sheet on my phone to create a 12 week training program for powerlifting comps and then track and update actual reps and weight for each set on the phone. It would be handy to be able to access that on the gear S3.
Thanks for your reply. I think it's ridiculous that you can track about a thousand different things with the watch but you can't simply enter weight and reps for a gym workout. Mind-blowing. However, I have emailed the developer of the progression fitness tracker recently, and he is currently working on a new update to lay the groundwork for Gear S3 support. He encouraged me to become part of the beta programme in order to have access as soon as it releases. I would suggest you do the same.
I was just using the phone as a timer and counting the number of beats I could feel on my wrist with my finger in 15 seconds. It is accurate if you can feel the beat. What are you asking about the calories? See 4:41 for the comparison.
i have the galaxy watch, and sometimes it says my bpm is between 80 ans 90, and then when i measure it, it goes to 70 something. and if i measure it again, it will be a couple beats higher, and then when i do it again, it goes back. Ex: first: 71bpm, second 78bpm, third: 71bpm, fourth 78bpm, and then and then. until i measured it and it will be 71, and when i measure it again and it says 71, il say it's 71.
ha ha, no I just used it to show the number to the camera. It was measured by my fingers on my pulse point on my wrist and me counting. The old fashioned way :-)
My custom watch face is now available in the Samsung Galaxy Apps store. Search for "Ray Hope" to see all my watch face designs. See the videos here ua-cam.com/play/PLYN-tO6pLIriwdrHMmra4PCbpTkafNGMZ.html

No I didn't try that. I'll give it a go.

great comparison because I'm debating on weather to get a gear s3 or ionic fitbit.
which one did u end up buying?
Im stuck chosing betwen the two aswel 🤣

Gear 3
Hello, where do I buy the inbody band pls?
Try ebay.
do they use a strap around the chest or is it on the wrist directly? I hate the strap its so obsolete
Hi Marty. It is on the wrist directly as shown in the video.
pretty fair review thanks.
Thanks. I really appreciate your support :-)
Good video. Thanks!
Thanks
Does it keep track of a constant heart rate while you are running? If not, would it connect to a chest band like a Garmin would?
Not constant, but it samples at a regular rate and plots a curve of heart rate when you access the data on your watch or phone. I don't think it connects to a chest band.

wearing the s3 pretty low from what u can tell. should not be at the wrist bone.
the way that you measure your heart rate by your phone is it an accurate way so you compare it with the gear s3,,, also how about the calories ??
I was just using the phone as a timer and counting the number of beats I could feel on my wrist with my finger in 15 seconds. It is accurate if you can feel the beat. What are you asking about the calories? See 4:41 for the comparison.
Hearth it doesnt work well if you arnt holding you arm still (so measruing while running wont be accurate). Have you tested that?
Yeah I was holding my arm still to video it.
Can the s3 frontier be paired with a chest monitor using Bluetooth ?
Not as far as I know.
I've also been looking at the Garmin fenix 3hr. Which one do you think is the better choice?
I haven't used any Garmin.
Thank you for the information.
A like for a fellow Brisbanite
Thanks Dean. I really appreciate your support :-)
The gear s3 should be an inch above the wrist bone and and tight to the skin.
i have the galaxy watch, and sometimes it says my bpm is between 80 ans 90, and then when i measure it, it goes to 70 something.

Yeah I get slight variations all the time. Could be the watch, could be my heart rate. I do notice it goes steadily down after exercise.
Did your calculator measured your heart rate 😱😱😱
ha ha, no I just used it to show the number to the camera. It was measured by my fingers on my pulse point on my wrist and me counting. The old fashioned way :-)

Did he need to use a calculator to MULTIPLY BY 4??? We are really living towards IDIOCRACY!!!!!
Ha Ha, no that was just an easy visual way to show the camera.
Oh, ok then, I was loosing my hope for humanity
