PEOPLE PERSON | Award-Winning Animated Short Film
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- Desperate to escape her reality, a young woman discovers a program that immerses her in her own subconscious through a myriad of virtual personas.
---
The entire film was shot live action first, and the actors’ performances were hand-animated using rotoscope techniques to ensure that every micro-detail of emotion and expression was captured. This character animation was then composited with environments built in Blender. We spent countless hours for three years to muscle and finesse PEOPLE PERSON into existence, and we couldn’t be more proud. We hope you enjoy!
PEOPLE PERSON has been accepted into 25 international film festivals, nominated for 12 awards, and has won 8 awards. We are grateful to every festival for welcoming us so warmly.

My thoughts: she was using virtual reality as a form of escape. In it she finds peace and later the intoxicating excitement and rush of life. Both she and the viewer assume that she needs the virtual world because the real world is too terrible to live in.
Only when she is forced to disconnect does she find something she didn't expect: The real world does have peace. And all the people who experienced those amazing things are there, living those experiences. And their true, real forms are even more incredible than what the virtual world could simulate. She is incredible, and her life can be incredible and full of beauty and excitement, if she would just go out and live it.
Such meaningful takeaways! We're glad you connected with the work 🩷
I was thinking it was an allegory for drug abuse and mental health. It went fron pessimism to optimism. Which is what seperates many when it comes to mental health. It seems like the loving couple was what really did her in, I think she related to everyone else struggling. Then she saw that and it made her fear, that maybe she was wrong. In the end, she was. And she cut off the escapism, the cycle of drug abuse in a way. The contrast of the gritty, dirty night life with the bright love of the day. It was the same city, just in a different light. She didn't need the escape to feel it.
@@fungustheclown666 Well said! Thanks for this.
Sure... if you ignore everybody she sees at the end. She's still trip'n. Her "golden plateau" is merely a complete break from reality.

i love the story of the main character living in ai simulation her whole life of escapism like a drug showing in one color each scene and wanting more becomes over whelming until she rips it off introducing herself to the real world burst of color all at once sees herself in a new light for the very first time, at least that's what i learnt. Amazing cinematography, and storytelling with color Congrats on winning so many Awards you Deserve it .
Thanks so much for such intentional love, ninja
This film highlights a problem in youtube: you can only like something once! This is amazing!
Thank you for the kind words!
We like it too 😎 but only once I guess 😔
As an old guy confused by how the youngsters talk and with my social awkwardness and disconnection from how most folks talk, this was a powerful video about balacing you and them while maintaining sanity and self.
This is a powerful takeaway - we definitely understand the feeling of isolation when trying to connect with others, while also maintaining a sense of confident autonomy and independence when sharing life with other people.
Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts Joe!
Wow, beautifully described!
When A.I. said, "I'm sorry, your head-space is no longer compatible with this reality," I felt that. 😑
It felt like a 'Love, death and robot' episode!! Great work!! ❤

That touch in the mirror, slowly learning to accept yourself? Heart dropping (and tear dropping). Friggen magnificent. Beautiful work to the whole team!!
How this has so little views is a pure mystery to me! This is gorgous!
We're grateful you watched, Chaizin - appreciate you!!

youtube is a little slow sometimes but ik it'll take off once some time passes!

Because today's generation prefer to watch those """skibidi ohio rizz""" than those masterpieces
This is what animation is all about. *THIS* is why I want to be in the animation industry. *This* is the future :D
This is just on another level. You guys werent afraid to experiment something different which led to this visual masterpiece.
🩷 many thanks 🙏
absolutely no way. I REFUSE TO LET THIS GO BY WITHOUT THE APPRECIATION IT DESERVES. This was PHENOMENAL!
We are honored by your love 🩷 Thank you greatly!
YOU'RE THE BEST!
And remember we could've gotten batman beyond in this animation style. We were robbed fr.

This reminds me of my late-night thoughts that when we die, we will become one consciousness because ego is what separates us in living brains.
😱🤯 this theory!
Gendo might have been up to something
This is why i love short films. Theyre usually so experimentive, and filled to the brim with passion, storytelling, deep meaning, and style. You guys have and are always going to have a bright future in artistic creations. Thank you for all your hard work and talent, poured into this film!
This means the world jo - we gave it our all... and we really appreciate your support!!
As an introvert, this speaks to me. Meeting with real people who have different personalities and opinions can be terrifying but once I am past the scary part, I am happy to have met someone new. And the loud, static colors definitely described what I feel in my head sometimes when I am stressed, overwhelmed, or lost
The animation style, ambiance and lighting is breathtaking. It feels like an anime version of blade runner with a dystopian version of detroit become human
Thank you, Shane! Very kind words 🩷
I love when YT recommends random gems. This is what I live for, truly. 💎

I've watched this so much the last few hours, and I still don't fully understand.
Things I've noticed that I think I understand: the vr is their release and escape from their current life and back to the remnant of a feeling of bliss as a child- hence the initial disk being in a meadow, like the memory of a rare moment of human connection they cherish. However as well, this method of escape was founded and taught to them as a child as well, as seen with them beside their parents also in vr. The bootleg disk found in the trash is a prototype or illegally modified version of the new official one which was advertised- perhaps the official one is supposed to be you experiencing new things- not you experiencing new people. Also, perhaps such extremes as seen in the bootleg are not intended. In the bootleg, we see a meadow experience interrupted, a mime fighting then experiencing regret- pretty sure the elderly by the painting is the same person (mustache/ same eye color)- also they're likely still fighting, someone committing die, someone speeding away from police but getting caught, someone getting high at a party and possibly overdoing it, and two lovers loving and creating life. Every one of these lives seems to have some contradiction, as real life would I guess: peace brutally interrupted, a violent one who doesn't speak seems to have a loud inner voice, feeling bliss when committing die, fleeing fast for the thrill of escape but being finally caught, the love club is just getting high by yourself, and a dispassionate wedding leads to a new life. The break breaks, they flee to try and recover, they crash, they fall, they rip out the very thing causing it all, and then see the world anew- real laughter, real birds, real color. They encounter their reflection once more, but instead of resisting the act of grounding and remaining in a colorless world, they ground, they reflect, and then wtf the person people are back.
Things I've noticed that I don't understand: After the initial vr session they went to a sync machine to make the return, it then said it was syncing, but then stated that due to an issue they need to find a sync machine to restore to a normal headspace- so, did they not want to restore at that time or is it just some flaw in the system? Also, who was the additional person with the looped earrings in the bootleg that texted them- was it them or? Lastly, the mole- it's always on the right side of their face, except for the initial reflection scene- maybe this is why they were shocked upon sight of their reflection the second time and not the first. In the final reflection scene it mirrors like an actual mirror, but in that first one it swaps sides- you'd think they hit reality in the end hence the sudden vibrancy, but then you see the characters from before and you wonder, but then you watch again and see the mole thing and wonder was any of it real at all? I'm so confused, yet so moved. I can relate in ways- really, what's real anymore?
Oo! The chip in the side of the head reminds me of an animated short film called “Best Friend.” Have you seen that by chance? It’s a completely different story line, but I like seeing different takes on the purpose of them. Every story is told differently, and I thought this was a neat one. Best of luck with future projects!
I was just about to say that too lol!
Yes cloud, we love "Best Friend!" Great reference! We like the notion that all ideas want to get made, and sometimes they end up manifesting in different places at the same time :)
Where might I locate this "Best Friend"?
This is one of the most breathtaking works of art I have ever witnessed. To me it felt like breaking away from one’s social media addiction, which I had for years. Thank you, really, from the bottom of my heart. Please keep doing what you do, the world needs stories and art like this.
Thank you so much for this encouragement Cloud - we’re in the same boat with our relationship to socials and addiction - really appreciate you sharing your love here.
The story is in the title "People Person." When she takes the vr stuff off, she see's people, but they're all one person(Her).
[Alternative Meaning]
Nice work.
She looks out, and realizes how she was stucked in virtual reality and seeing the people who came asking her for help, then on they were still stuck.
Cant wait to see this blow up. Not only was this expertly done, but the aritistic choice of color, medium and story shows the passion behind it. Rotoscope deserves so much more attention and yall nailed it. More people need to see this. Its a story so relatable yet so original, that i believe it really could help some people out there. As someone whos gone through their own existencial crisis, this very much hit home and reminded me that escapism only goes so far before it hurts you. Gah damn, I'd watch a whole show of this. Amazing job to you and your team. Im looking forward to future projects for sure
Wow, thank you! We are so glad the work connected with you. That's all we can ask for 🩷 Thank you for sharing the love!
Beautiful use of rotoscope. I really hope that more and more people will use it. For a short with minimal dialogue, you've all managed to tell a wonderful story as well. The use of over-saturation and over-stimulation, at least to me, really captured the desire many people have for a 'realer-than-real' experience; so much stimuli going on it drowns out everything else (the good as well as the bad), and makes the real world seem bland by contrast.
That's to say nothing of the many people pointing out the mental health aspects, which I see as well. Happy to see her break out of her cycle of addiction. In the end, she can't fully say "I'm okay"--but you also know that she's committed to reaching a place where she can say that. And I relate to that a lot. There's been many times in my life where I'm just "I'm...".
To each and every person who made this work possible: I love each and every one of you, as one human being to another. You are wonderful, and I hope you can say "I'm okay".
That's the take i've been looking for! Great take about the ending, i don't have enough critical thinking to figure these things out alone 😭 thanks a lot lol
Incredibly unique visual style with a great scifi story!
Thanks so much Trevor - really glad you enjoyed it!!
I have no words, this is prettiest and most impressive animation I've ever seen on UA-cam
First of all: this is a god damn masterpiece! Thank you so much for it.
Second: just to bring up a new idea: what if the last part wasn’t the reality and more that this disc makes a copy of your brain/ personality/ everything and uploads it into the game. So when she ripped out the vr- thing she died and what we saw was the copy. That could be why the people from the game showed up in that reality.
I do see the reasons why this might be wrong but I do like the idea that they all came from the dark world and found piece there.
LOVE THIS. We're all sharing this wild reality... who's to say our consciousnesses don't overlap from time to time?
The choices of color pallette is so underrated. Literally a simulation of a drugged sensory overload as a cope...but in a good way.
I'm gonna go open my windows, one sec.
It's so easy to forget that the real world out there can be beautiful. I've been sick for a couple days so I haven't really gone outside and I've been sleeping through most of the sunlight. I woke up earlier today and goodness is it good to see some sunlight, waning as it is. To see trees and birds. I can't wait for spring. Forget all the ways the world is burning and just breathe some fresh air again. Hopefully my sinuses clear up soon so I can actually take a deep breath, lol. I'll just enjoy the cotton candy sky for now.
I hope you find some joy in the world today.
The whole concept in this story is just amazing! Whenever I find an animation like this I feel so happy about people having such a cool imagination and dedication to make not only good stories, but forms of art too. I have managed to feel something special for animation, and especially respect for those responsible for their creation. Keep it up!
A lively, nuanced romp around the concept of personal reality, virtual and otherwise. Many thanks!
The coolest thing I’ve ever seen!!!!!! Stunning. Captivating. Legendary.
Takes one to know one.
The little flickery movment following the perspective of the the character it's beautiful
Cool story. Trippy premise. Fun to watch. Eye candy. Ear candy. Relatable main character. Ambiguous ending. I think that's pretty much all I could ask for in a short film. Great job--well done..
Really glad you enjoyed it Sine!! Appreciate this.
I love everything about this, really, everything. The color work, the stylization, all of it. But I think one of my favorite details is her cat getting so upset at the headspace failure. I’ve seen it before and I’m sure I will again, animals, especially pets, know when someone is using drugs (assuming that is akin to what this is) and when they are having a bad trip or overdosing. It’s a really good detail I enjoy a lot.
Frankly (the cat) knows best 👏🐈⬛
This made me wanna touch grass :3

THE MOVEMENTS ARE SO REAL AND SMOOTH WTH??? I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT
Probably the most fleshed out and riveting short film experiences ive ever had. Gorgeous cinematography, and really immersive sound design
Thanks for giving us a watch! Happy to hear you enjoyed the film 🙂🩷
I wonder how she can walk the street so calmly with the assassin's creed low health disorientating effect
She's been at it for so long, she forget she was at low health O.o
When you work so much on a project you quickly disconnect from the reason for everything. this masterpiece made me remember. thanks
As an animator this is one of the most genuinely inspiring things I have ever seen.
So stylish, great pallette! Also, movement animation is really smooth. Pleasure to watch.
I’m so surprised by the small amount of views this has, this is the best animated short film I’ve seen! The colors and the movement it’s all so impressive.
We appreciate the support, thank you for watching! 🩷
The imagery and visual design in this is top tier. I like the Bladerunner aesthetics but overall it reminds me of the Neuromancer universe.
Its beautiful! So much hard work holy shit!!! And omg the story
The way the scenes switch connected with the music and the emotions on their faces and the end omg the end
The way she connected with the people who's life she got to expirience - to me is a super example of true interconnection and empathy which resonated so much with my life expirience so far
Its scary to think that we all may be one big thing in the end, one big mush, but art makes it look as thought perhaps it is not as bad
We're all just silly lost beings scared of the next big step but we're not alone here and whether that's a curse or a blessing is up to us
😐😐😐🤔
ОК... допустим...

*P.S.:* ничего не понятно, но очень интересно 😉

How is this so unpopular?
It's incredible, much better than many short films.
I hope the hard work pays off on this.
And even then hope at least it's payed off in how proud everyone is that worked on this for the outcome

Truly another master piece from the animators of yt. Too bad these wonderful pieces of art don't get as much attention as they deserve. 9/10 short film : )

This is incredible. I’m actually speechless this is such a work of art I’m surprised it doesn’t have more recognition!
This is incredible! the animation, the voice acting, the music- EVERYTHING!
Thanks Blueberry!!
@@innerveil Ofc!! Keep up the amazing work 🩵
I’ve seen a short film with a very similar niche to this with the virtual reality being in a chip in the same place in the head as well. So I’m not the most sure if this is completely original though the art style is completely different and amazing and the story is a bit different so I’ll give whoever made this a thumbs up.
Yes we're big fans of the short "Best Friend"! Appreciate you taking the time to connect with our work
This is one of the most insane animations I've ever seen, absolute masterpiece. Seriously, amazing work!
THIS DESERVES SO MUCH MORE RECOGNITION! This is truly amazing. Please, keep on going with the wonderful short films. It looks so wonderful!

Yes, definitely! We'll be posting BTS / process talks in the coming weeks on UA-cam and our socials. Stay tuned!
So incredibly beautiful. The music fits perfectly, the animation is gorgeous and expressive. The plot is relatable and unique, everything about this is so grand.
this is so cool. reminds me of reality shifting. and incorporating this technological reality with integrated VR into futuristic humans is so awesome. makes me so excited for how the future will look and what technology is capable of. animation is so incredible, thank you 💗 it’s so magical to look at the world as a reflection of the self, and this is such a beautiful, gorgeous animation to show it.
I had been following the short for a while now, I wasn't sure what to expect, but not this!!! Truly such an incredible work from everyone, excited for what lays in the future for everyone on the project:)!!! Congrats Ry, Duncan, and everyone else on the team
This is absolutely stunning, I'm literally mesmerised!!! This is such a gorgeous animation, I loved it so much. Especially with the fluidity, and the colours.. and I could really connect with the main character around the sentiment of having the urge to escape reality. Such a beautiful piece, I appreciate everyone who worked on it! I look forward to more stuff like this, it's amazing :)) ❤❤
We're glad you connected with the film! 🩷 Thanks for watching :)
This is very profound, reminds me of myself where I have lived on the internet for so long, playing video games etc to the point where this seems more of reality than well...reality.
Wake up to the REAL you 👁️
Reminds me of Keiichi Matsuda/bladerunner (heavy on the Black lotus vibes) depiction of the future reality. Also I just found it funny how this "future" is still using floppy disks for almost everything like its just programmed into society. I'm just thinking about all the old tech we stopped breaking new ground with, and how different life would be if we kept up with them. I'm already thinking for example Laser disc (already coming back funny enough) , vhs tapes, and my all time favorite CRT's. oh what I would give for such a reality lol.
Work of Art🎉🎉❤
Really awesome, loved the style and ambiance! And a little retro-futurism with the floppy disks and modem connection tone 😁
Phenomenal! Great work, the animation is beautiful, the music and sound is perfect. It stirred up feeling and thoughts in me just as quality art should. Hope this gets to more people.

Falling into?! Dude, we have been in it since the beginning of civilization
@@davidoliveirafonseca5551 You have to admit that now with current technology, forms of escapism have become more advanced and extreme, people LITERALLY using VIRTUAL REALITY experiences to escape the confinements of their day to day lives. In other words, society is “falling into” an era of what I’d call Morbid Escapism.
This is absolutely amazing!
Alberto Mielgo sure has done so much for animation :> I don't find rotoscoped animation that interesting because I feel like it normally lacks intention and personality, but here its exactly the opposite! Really great work!

Welcome! We hope you enjoy your stay 🩷 There are so many good shorts out there, enjoy the journey!
Amazing. Love the story, the ending, the facial expressions, the camera work, the animation and the effort put in the backgrounds. I will say one thing though. The amount of drowning and flickering colors made it straining on the eyes even though I understand that is kinda the point but still.
Thanks so much for the kind words and honest feedback bruv
Wow, this was intense and interesting. The animation is similar to Waking Live but with a cool and unique adaptation to it. The twist at the ending was the best part. Powerful message. Awesome work!
Amazing job! I love the animation and the story it tells!
With so much content on social media that we blindly thumb our way through, it was wonderful to stumble onto something that had me watching from end to end. This is a genius short film and so just so relevant. Well done.

So good, this deserves better
I love how there were plants and trees in the city right from the beginning despite the cyberpunk aesthetic.

literally deserves all the awards in the world.
I really love this. The "award winning" part turned me off a lot. I don't like being told to like it by committee in general, but once I got over that, I ended up really liking this. A little disjointed, and a little listless, but that serves the story, which is rare. Pacing and congruity generally falter because of bad direction or bad production, but in this case it was intentional and that ended up being pretty brilliant storytelling.
The ending brought it all together. The entire thing was a great cyberpunk story. Fantastic art, music, sound design, editing, and direction. Again, I really loved this.
Thanks so much for this brigand! Always appreciate the feedback and grateful you connected with the work
