Techno's live is pretty relatable we all know someone like him. carefree, reckless but funny.
After finishing this short film I can say that:
1. I am fucking sad that I couldn't find a way to watch this years earlier, and the fact that I let it slide into the oblivion of my mind.
2. Its fucking amazing. The lighting, the framing, the art, everything. I mean no fucking surprise Robert and Alberto Mielgo were the highlights of the Love death and robots show so no surprises there.
4. Rarely do you see such a slice of life, documentary flick in such a beautiful package.
3. Damn, I wish to one day become as important to someone for them to dedicate an oscar worthy project to my weird life.
this is such an interesting profile of a male character. I would love to see a deeper analysis of this
If this person was real like i had researched, then Rest in Peace. This shit was good asf, and the art style is crazy.
man, this is one of the most beautifully written animated movies I've had the pleasure of watching in a long time.
I remember watching all the Oscar nominated animated shorts in 2017 and this was my favourite. I love it.
IFC Theatre in NYC played them on multiple nights
This one is great but I still think Garden Party should’ve won
Same here. It was a bummer that Pixar won the short again those year.
At last his fater said "Even in dust you are giving me trouble " hits so hard .
I remember watching this and wondering who you got to narrate. Was pleasantly surprised to find out it was you.
Your voice is almost as cool as your style.
Anyway fantastic work, it somehow has both the feel of a comic book and animation.
I had to google who narrated it because I would've bet the house it was Edward James Olmos and lost.
The BEST Animation and storytelling I've ever watched in my 70 years.........................................................................
A really beautiful mini-movie about an unfortunately self destructive person.
Man am dumbfounded that good movies like this still exists......that breaks all normal boundaries
This is the film that changed my life. I love the integration of music to create a mysterious or chill atmosphere.
Woah! Thank you for making it available, Robert. I’ve seen it before, I was actually
Living in Beijing at the time. It really is a masterpiece
Such a great movie. I watch it EVERY YEAR during the holidays right after I watch Home Alone.
Bam! This was so fresh and authentic and executed masterfully.
Brings me great happiness and inspiration to see artists like yourself bringing stuff like this to life and showing what is possible in terms of the stories that are worth telling and how they're told.
Ontop of that mad MAD respect for the sheer dedication and time that you put into this. Having completed a few longer term personal projects I can only imagine how deep you went for this one jeez.
Nice to see this up on your own channel!
Jesus Christ I need this on VHS!!! I feel like this is a story a lot of people can relate to, cause you probably know someone like Techno (could do it all type of kid). Great film!
this short film brought tears to my eyes. from the colours, the frames to the music and the narration, it was executed beautifully. it reminded me so much of taking care of my dad who suffered from liver cirrhosis due to his alcoholism. especially that line, 'techno was convinced nothing could kill him' resonated so much with how my dad thought of himself. im still at a loss at my dad's death even after its been nine months since his passing, i really always believed his words that nothing could ever kill him. this film will forever remain an all time fav of mine
18:45 George Castanza’s likeness is uncanny, also I love this animation style; I saw someone else compare it to the “ICE” episode in Love Death and Robots and that’s pretty much spot on… love this kind of animation
Same guy actually animated both, I absolutely adore robert valley
Same animator
This film changed my life
4:44
The subtle jiggle in that animation is just... * _cheff's kiss_ *
So fucking mad at myself for not finding this masterpiece sooner, if I did I would have forced everyone I know to watch this hidden gem anyway I’ll be doing it from now on but ohhh!! what a film it was, everything is absolutely perfect it gives me immense satisfaction of watching a film and how a good film should be, love every fucking second of it
Such an incredible, unique, and evocative piece of work. Happy to see 2D animation is in good hands.
As someone who is struggling with my drinking, this hits hard. I hope I never need to go to China for a new liver from a political assassination. I also hope I still have a friend or family member who is this dedicated to helping me.
I never did live large, I just drank slow and steady.
After so many years, finally being able to see this is great. Your work on Love Death Robots is by far the most outstanding parts of the series, it's crazy to see this short film, very personal and alone to do everything, great work !!
Mr Robert Valley, Pear Cider and Cigarettes is one of my favorite animations.
I’m 10 mins in and so glad I found you after seeing that episode of Love Death and Robots
this is a master class of limited animation
What a beautiful film. Godspeed Techno, you crazy bastard.
Hah what a coincidence,
I am watching Motor City (2012) as we speak. For all its flaws and such, the character design was really cool, and imagine my surprise when I found out Robert also worked on Tron Uprising, Gorrilaz and many more cool pieces!
I was twice as surprised to have found out that Pear Cider, something I wanted to watch many years back but completely forgot about was just recently posted on this bloody platform...and it's also made by this absolute madlad as well!
New favorite animation
Robert, I don’t normally blow smoke up peoples asses, but your work is absolutely stunning! “Pear Cider and Cigarettes” left me speechless. And I really dig the fact that you do these how to videos to show your process. So many artists can be close to the vets about what they do, but sharing it really inspires me to do work of my own. Cheers, and keep up the good work.
Kind of feel like the narrator's voice is a cross between the styles of Michael Keaton's Birdman and Tom Hopper from Umbrella Academy. It's one of the most attractive things about this whole movie. Love it, mate! Bless you!
Absolutely blown away by this film. Thanks for sharing it
half a year after viewing this, I came back to watch it again, it still strucks me on how amazing the style and your uique story-telling is, just perfection
I'm 2min and 13 secs in and I am mindblown...what is this that I'm looking at?Who is this Robert Valley dude? UA-cam algorithm is the best plug ever!!!.....I've never seen anything like this
THIS IS PURE ART!! NEEDS MORE VIEWS! TERRIBLY UNDERRATED! MASTERPIECE!!

Awesome direction, nice storytelling-voice, moving story, crazy nice sketchy artstyle!
wow. this was a genuinely amazing short film... I'm in love with the visuals and story, I need more
Incredible animation for an incredible story. Absolutely love your perspective, graphically and literally. Also, appreciated hearing Morphine playing for a second there when Techno was drinking, and then QOTSA for Jennifer, etc. Good choice in music, nice touch.
UNBELIEVABLE !!!
Thank you good sir for making your fantastic piece of art freely available.
I've been keen to see this since following your channel.
Much appreciated.
Have a brilliant 2022.
this was so good. Was not planning on sitting the whole thing.
Worth every second!
It’s finally online!!! Loved watching every minute of it, amazing job!!
Beautiful. Just breathtakingly beautiful. Thank you so much for posting this on your channel, now I'll be able to support my favorite artist! This film was nothing like I've seen before, and I'm so glad I discovered it. The visuals and artstyle were incredibly unique, and so mesmerizing & pleasing to the eye. I just couldn't take my attention off of it, it pulled me in and I enjoyed every second of it. Literally any scene from this film could be used as a wallpaper honestly.
I've discovered your other works like "Shinjuku" and "Massive swerve" too and wow am I obsessed! I hope I get to see more of those again someday! Can't wait to see more content, Robert, your work is seriously amazing. You're a big inspiration. :-)
I remember this nomination years ago at the Oscars. I watched the trailer probably 10 times since. So happy to finally watch the full film. A true work of art
Style!)) Jennifer shi's amazing)) Thanks for all what you do!
Incredible work as always. Will share with many
Thank you for sharing this.
Looks like techno decided to live up all his years in the beginning of his life.
Incredible ! I'm so happy to have discovered this! Your work inspires me enormously and makes me want to create so much! Thank you very much for all this work, I loved it !
The Badi gyy..great work Surely
Man what a good film, really enjoyed this!
I watch this regularly. Highest compliment I can give both as an artist and a movie fiend.
Decided to rewatch this with my friend who was on acid, he really liked the flow of the story and animation.
Reminds me of a Coen Brothers movie
Beautifully drawn and told!
Which movie?
This one of the most beautiful animated works ever and I love the pure humanity of the story. The beauty and the tragedy of a somewhat regular but equally exceptional and idiosyncratic human life.
What a work. What an unreal work. I wish you were my mentor.
Love this fucking anime reminds me of my one friend that took his own life miss him and everyone else that didn't make it
I first discovered his work from his DC Nation Wonder Woman short, and now I'm in love with his style!! I'd love to work with him one day!!!
Thank you for sharing,.... hope you get an avalanche of viewers. This movie is a masterpiece!
This incredible! Love it, the style is crazy good.

A masterpiece
Techno had the chance to have a very good friend taking care of him. That’s pure love, it’s inspiring
Can’t wait to watch this I gotta wait a bit

Incredible animation and storytelling! Thanks for creating and sharing - your work is truly an inspiration!
Looks awesome
This is my favorite film

Men
This is my brother. I see techno and immediately see my brother.
Sheeesh, ain't gonna list the similitude because it's a copy paste
Weird enough, tomorrow we will go to the hospital and get him a pretty invasive surgery with high fatality rate.
I get the shivers.
Even if I can't stand any kind of interaction or something about my brother, I really hope for good.
Men, idk why I'm typing this, never gonna say this out loud nor tell someone, I hope my English is bad enough so no one can understand this
Good animation, nice story
This is like a new myth or something, nice
Did your bro make it through
@@somtoakah1866Damn, I totally forgot this comment, kinda weird seeing it again. Thanks I guess.
Uhmmm, yeah he did it, the surgery was a total success, "a milestone in the medical community". But mentally he didn't come back, its just like seeing a ghost of my brother from far away. Just like tecno, he doesn't have anything to live for.
Thank for replying, i saw the film again bc of you.
@@im2smurf4this28 I’m glad he’s still here with us, I hope he recovers mentally too
I love this. I love you
Incredibly good
I keep coming back to this 🔥💓🎇
