no self-celebration. Just a realistic and sincere documentary about life on tour. With its problems, its stressing moments. Great, just great attitude. Thanks to Meshuggah
India has a pretty decent size metal community. They are dedicated and loyal to whatever metal bands theyre into. I don't understand why ppl are always shocked or surprised that there are metal heads in india. A lot of poverty-stricken countries usually have a solid metal or music scene in general because it is a positive outlet.
You can recall any story of any metal band in the 80's and the beginning of the 90's and some of the most wild gigs they ever had were in South America.
Yup. This is what touring is like. Communicating in second or third languages about cables, waiting around, airports, good show, waiting around, bad show, exhausted, energised, waiting around, more airports.
@@TheSadistNat1onI know from experience that it can be extremely tough even in your twenties. If you don't get enough sleep for a long period of time, your body will eventually stop obeying when you're on stage.

Correction: this is what the 5 star treatment looks like in touring. Still, during these times, I wish I was out in the van again goofing off and playing again.
Also, I love how at 20:21 during their sound check, they've played Rational Gaze so many times, they can smoke a cigarette, look uninterested, pay attention to everything else and play it perfectly. Meanwhile, the rest of us are over here like THAT SYNCOPATION AND TIMING, WTF. Every time.

I don’t think the fact that it’s India had anything to do with it being an unpleasant experience. If anything, as a Westerner it would be more enjoyable to me not being around the usual random American/European city, if I’m gonna sleep two hours per night anyway I might as well do it in a completely different environment for a change. Cheers from Italy!
Meshuggah seem like a bunch of really even tempered and nice guys. This is a good thing, but it also makes it hard to create a really thrilling documentary about them.
India is a great country and it fills me with joy to see the crowds so ecstatic about seeing Meshuggah. In the West we take the endless rotation of touring bands for granted and would rarely get anywhere near as excited as the Indian crowds..
I am not from India or of Indian descent but I am very disappointed in the ignorance found within the comments. Just because a culture is foreign to you and you don't understand it does not mean they are not every bit as valid and human as the rest of us. India's problem is the population density is insane...too many people in not that large of an area(populated areas.) This is an ancient people that deserve respect. Their skin tone does not mean they are dirty or that they stink. Shame of you if you disrespected these people. We are all humans and more specifically we are all part of the brotherhood of metal!!
Good comment. India is still very much a developing country with lots of challenges to overcome. In our lifetimes, we will see a much more modern India emerge. This should shut up most of the haters...
As a Swede watching this I get why some people view this as boring or depressing but: Swedes generally enter "work mode" during stuff like this, they care more about getting it done efficiently than anything and with lack of sleep, a lot of coffee there is a tendency to enter no-nonsense lowkey energy-saving mode. Which I guess most people do, some just treat it differently. And there's plenty of bad Swedish puns everywhere. Example "jet lite" they turn into Swedish for "Jättelite" which means "very little". But they definitely look like I do during nightshift.
I know it's a low-key documentary, but I can't help imagine the intensity to play there, and how beautifully music brings humans together. Those dudes produced a very original, inherent music in a cave in the north, and here they are exulting with very different people from a totally different world. Yet feeling the same beat, moving the same air together, pretty cool! thanks guys
Makes me proud to see brown metalheads. I thought I was the only one. Thanks Meshuggah. This documentary feels like a comedy in a sort of a Spinal Tap way.
In this day and age, showing that you're not a bigot is unfortunately never a yawner. People as it happens, need to be informed that there is no difference between me and you. It's strange, but it seems to be were we're at. For me, as a swede, I'm just super excited that people from where ever can relate to Meshuggah.
Thanks for the upload, even though the guys seemed to be really tired all the time and it made the interviews quite boring, but a great inside look of metal concerts in India.
02:03 ... I can listen to it 'til I die. I think this particular DVD differs from many videos that we've seen through the years from different bands... It really shows their frustration among gigs, the travelling, the delays, the little sleep time, although the producers do their best. Besides, they are quite calm throughout the video. It's different, but what do you expect? It's Meshuggah. IMHO I think that they are at the pinnacle of their career, but that does not mean that they will not have times like these while touring. I've actually bought all their albums, DVDs, seen them live multiple times, have Meshuggah clothing, posters... you name it. If you like the band, support them. If you can't afford to at the time, go ahead and download the album... but don't forget to show them your support later on as well.
A little over a year ago I decided to buy all my music because I felt like an ass stealing from all of these amazing artists. They're out there busting their asses writing songs that make us feel a little better when we're down, or simply put a smile on our face when we hear that epic riff they wrote or that cool drum fill their drummer does. I know it's not much in the grand scheme of things, but it makes me feel better knowing that in some small way I'm making THEIR lives a little bit easier, just as they did for me
I would say their tour was quite badly planned there.. up crazy early every morning... no time to look around.... which subsequently makes for tired and easily annoyed musicians...
I watched the "movie" from the Chaosphere sessions, and this one back to back, and I have to say that Jens is a different person, man. Although, I get that when on camera, he was incredibly fucking tired most of the times.
