I remember watching this as a kid and loving the music! The songs are catchy as hell. But let's be honest: the jokes & satire went over our heads lol. Now that we understand everything, its awesome!
I'm not the member of the fan club or anything. Not meaning hate. This just keeps showing up in my feeds. & I apparently love reading. Comments on a thread. But I can't get out of my head there was a world outside my teen female bubble world & that rock stars + watched this too. I mean, I know all ppl r just ppl. And have the same access to things. Or certain things. But the fact that at least u2(Bono) & Pete Wentz watched this & were fans is funny to me. I def used to listen to some fall out boy back in my days. But then again, he's prob around the same age. I wonder who else watched. Bc even tho it has a commercial vibe, it at the same time just doesn't. & I think that's my thing. I wish more ppl watched it. Or personally too. I just wanna go around annoying ppl. "So pwetty, so pwahpulah." However she said it, it's been awhile. I like "oh" personally, for dingy moments (at least I can be honest w/ myself. Just not that dingy) or when I'm half arsing it & i don't really care. Like u know, when she's saying Fionna gives her the chills & weird vibes & ish. Etc. I still think about this movie to this day & apply to my random thoughts & random at any given situations.
Alan Cumming is somehow always playing bizarre, unhinged, over the top sorta avant garde characters yet somehow he ALWAYS kills it. I love that
Alan Cumming used to scare me as a kid. One of my older male cousins who was 12. Told me when the first Spy Kids came out that Alan Cumming kidnapped bad little girls. I was 8 and had nightmares about Alan Cumming kidnapping me for several years.

The singer Kay Henley was the lead singer but the band is made up of a others... Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne), Adam Duritz(Counting Crows), Michael Eisenstein(also Letters to Cleo). Rachel, Tara and Rosio also provided backing vocals
Had The CW's 'Riverdale' spinoff of Josie and the Pussycats went to full series, I'd would've loved to see that team meet up with the 2000 film version of the band.

The music producers for this movie were behind The BodyGuard, That Thing You Do and Fountains of Wayne. They were the real deal. This was one of my first cds.
I remember watching that movie as a kid CONSTANTLY on VHS. And just like Benji.....I still remember the words of every song....to this day.

I owned the CD soundtrack and I was obsessed with it. I used to blast it in my room and pretend I was in the band. Lol! And I agree that the cast is amazing. I used to idolize Parker Posey, but particularly her character ins Dazed and Confused. So sooo good at playing a bitch. Anyway, thanks for reminding me about this movie!

I love this movie! When it first came out I saw it in theaters and I didn’t get it but it’s strange how it aged because it aged too well. From the late 90s early 00s fashion being back and how quickly you can gain fame to everything being an advertisement. Plus the music is top notch! After I rewatched it in quarantine I added the soundtrack to my playlists because it’s so good plus I adore Rachael Leigh cook. She was my 00s girl crush
I don't think I enjoyed it nearly as much even two years ago as I did THIS TIME!
I saw it in the theaters too! My best friend just got her driver's license so she took our group of friends. We stopped at a gas station first and stocked up on candy to sneak in. And we wore cat ears. We felt like a strange mix of being "adults" but still kids. I'll never forget that. Times were simple back then.

Absolute perfection, I have been waiting for this one- it’s one of my favorite movies of all time! Rizzo got a little beat up, I think the music got Benji too hyped 😂 I agree that this is a perfect pairing with fight club, I can’t wait to do a double feature of those someday!

This is a fave of mine, doesn’t get enough credit. I always say “orange is the new pink” idk why that throwaway line stuck! Those songs are such bangers. I believe the singer of Letters to Cleo sang/helped with the music.

The way that I loved this movie growing up is unparalleled. I had the Val doll and everything. Starz used to have a channel called Starz Cinema where they ran a select group of movies at the same time everyday for like a month like movie screenings and I watched this at least 4 times everyday that it came on for a month straight. This and The Princess Diaries were it for me, man. I miss those days.
I remember my mom actually taped this movie for me from the movie channel on tv on a blank VHS tape hahaha!! Good old days I still have it even though it doesn’t work anymore I watched the crap out of it 🎉 btw love you guys!!!

I keep trying to get people to watch this movie or react to it on UA-cam, and nobody ever does, so I was glad to see this video (even though it's not a first watch). It is such an amazingly snarky commentary on consumerism, popular trends, product placement, and teen exploitation. Even the music is great. Unfortunately, most people hear the name, think of the comics or the old cartoon, say "but I'm not a pre-teen girl" and nope out.
I love that the boy band is named Du Jour (of the day). I'm sure someone else commented this already, but "take the Chevy to the levy" is from the song American Pie, which sings about "the day the music died". This refers to the plane crash that took the lives of Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens. So it's their code phrase for killing off another band in a plane crash.

Rewatched this movie before watching your reaction commentary. I always had positive nostalgic feelings towards this movie but hadn't watched it years! Definitely still holds up as a satire, feels like a period piece bc the music, editing, fashion, references,etc. are just so incredibly Y2K. I loved it!
I love this movie. I remember sheepishly asking my parents if I could watch it at a sleepover because it was my first PG-13 movie lol. I loved it, I got the album too and I feel so lucky that I still have it. It slaps!

I have the album and it's fucking AMAZING. It's a genuinely quality early 00's pop rock album! And of course they tagged the two DuJour songs on the end. This movie is one of my favorites ever but no one knows it or thinks it's dumb because THEY MISS THE WHOLE POINT. Oh! And they took no money for any of these endorsements. They just shoved it full of products to make a point.

"I don't think this was the plot in the comics" correct, the comics were just band-trying-to-make-it comedy stories (although initially it was Josie's solo comic, no Pussycats, who were created for the cartoon). The cartoon's plot and characterization was also very different than the comic and the film.

Since you love this film, can I suggest the MTV 2000 movie 2gether? Its a comedy/drama movie based on making a new boy band. Its in the same vein as Josie & The Pussycats. A fictional pop group that actually released music. Kind of like a boy band version of Spinal Tap. Its one of my childhood favourites!
