This is interesting! I was just comparing the old OCD 10 with 11 recently. Also it's just the USA that use the DSM as a diagnositic tool. Elsewhere we use it only as a research reference. 😊
Back in high school, I would actually google stuff about autism to see if other people understood my diagnosis. The results I got was honestly the most depressing stuff I’ve ever read. Seriously, would NOT recommend doing this to anyone trying to find self acceptance. Thank you for spreading the truth to other people who might not understand.
Oh ! normal is a SETTING on the washing machine - had listen to that a couple of times (for those who find this sort of humor difficult I thought Chloe said sitting...)
I actively reach out to my family that is spread all over the U.S. now because they have accused me of not caring about them. It's exhausting. But I've learned it's how they feel love, so it's worth the hard effort to me... My friends understand I come and go, and if they can't understand that, I've learned it's okay to let them drift away.
Asperger's has not been eradicated - it is still being diagnosed in certain places when not using the DSM-5. (It is still under the autism category though and it should no longer be used in a few years).
yes, we do have emotion, just not the ability to show / control it sometimes. for example, just the thought of a soundtrack of a movie, sometimes gets us teary, just because it stimulates us in that direction so strongly we have no control, we just cry.
Awesome!! I love your videos omgggg I watched the video where you showed your blanket fort bed and Im getting so much inspiration from it!! Keep up the epic work :)!
04.50 Is autism hereditary? I had many neurodivergent friends, and only one has no known neurodivergent family members. I myself also have dyspraxia and autism and more of my family are neurodivergent than neurotypical. My grandmother, my uncle, my sister, seven of my cousins, and at least eight of my extended family members are neurodivergent. I've never met anyone with as many neurodivergent family members as me though.
There is evidence to suggest it can be hereditary, like if your parents had autism, you're nore likely to be autistic, while it's also not guaranteed, a lot of autistic people do have family members that display similar symptoms, it's very much a thing of chance though
A lack of empathy is a trait of psychopathy, not autism. Autistic people may be less expressive emotionally than neuro typicals, which can be misinterpreted as being aloof.
Quick question! I know you're not going to see this but what do I do if I think I'm autistic, ADHD, or both but no one believes that there is anything wrong with me and I'm just quirky. I'm speaking with a psychologist and she refuses to test me because I "don't look autistic" and "don't act ADHD" when I literally have almost all the symptoms of both.
If you live with your family and feel confident enough to do it, try to explain everything to them! If they don't understand, you could try to talk to someone else. And if you live alone, seek another psychologist. She may even be good in other aspects but if you're seeking for a diagnosis, someone who thinks Autism/ADHD is something someone can "look like they are" is probably not the one that will help you about this.
I think it is odd that your psychologist would be disregarding your questions and for saying something so blunt and uneducated as “you don’t act autistic”, so if you think a diagnosis will help you get further in life, it might be a good idea to speak to another psychologist or councillor to seek their opinion on the matter. It is quite a long process to get tested for ASD (at least it was for me) and took over a year for me to get my diagnosis because my physiologist was completely booked and I can’t leave the house so she had to drive to my house. But if you find you relate to a lot (most even) of the diagnostic criteria and autistic traits, then you very well could be. I was tested because my severe anxiety, meltdowns and lack of social skills pointed straight towards ASD. my mum was the one who asked if I wanted to be tested because she thought I could be autistic (which I am). I don’t know much about ADHD or the diagnosis process, but I presume it would be very similar to ASD testing. I am very grateful for my ASD diagnosis, because it means I can now get an assistance dog to make me more comfortable leaving the house, and I am exempt from wearing masks out (I haven’t left the house for a long time anyway) So if this would help you then a diagnosis or test would be super beneficial. I hope this is of some help to you and you can get tested! Good luck!
There are tons of autistics out there who have no diagnosis. I got lucky and got a sketchy one when I was seven, but that was after five years of fighting, denial, family who say I don't look autistic, and psychologists who say I'm just really bright. Having no diagnosis doesn't mean you're not autistic and you don't have ADHD, it means you don't have proof. You're valid whether or not your family believes you and whether or not you have a diagnosis to prove it. That being said, if you really want to pursue a diagnosis, you should know that it's more common than people think for psychologists to do what yours did. It's odd, but it happens quite a bit. This is because you're masking, and unfortunately, psychologists can't see through that. The best way to get around this is to start writing down everything in your everyday life that makes you think you're autistic and have ADHD. It doesn't matter how miniscule it is, if it's even remotely relevant, write it down. Take your time on it, this might actually involve writing it down as it comes to you over the course of a couple weeks, or even a few months. Then, when you see the psychologist again, show them that list. This way they have something concrete to look at, you don't have to defend yourself on the spot as bad, and they can't just base it off of looking at you. Good luck!
I actually googled the definition of normal: tyrns out its actually a mathematical term we use for the 'typical'. I love❤ these videos so much, thank you so much for making accurate content on autism Chloé.
@@caitie226 I have 1 specific drive that I love and I dont get to do it anymore so now I just barely drive. Or if I do drive I bring my dog to calm me down
Like Soylent Green Soda, it varies from person to person for taste: how well do they drive? I got an ASD diagnosis in 2002, an ADHD diagnosis added to that last month, I’ve been driving for about 33 years now, perhaps I lost track a little. Most of the cases where I’ve been a driver and an accident has occurred involved me and my cars at a stop, of all things. Once I got t-boned by a car I turned in front of that was impossible to see as it was coming straight out of the setting sun, so I was blinded. I’ve accidentally minorly scratched some parked cars. Once, driving my sister’s car, someone insisted on occupying the same lane I was in while I was there, I had the right of way, as they turned into me. I’ve done multiple road trips of several thousand miles without incidents so far as any real import, unless you consider speeding ;) September 2022 I put about 6,000 miles on my car on one spanning from the Seattle area to Michigan and back, and points along the way, including driving some interesting ungrated mountain gravel roads 8 miles from downtown Boulder, Colorado: simply ended up with a dirty car. My older autistic sister, whom I suspect may also have ADHD? She has problems with riding a bicycle due to the stresses that she doesn’t handle well. She’s never driven nor (to the best of my knowledge) expressed an interest in trying to learn. She’s more rigid in many ways than I am. She can’t handle stress nearly as well, and is too slow to respond to many things happening for it to make sense for her to drive a car. Myself, when I’m conscious, I don’t think in pictures without a HUGE amount of concentration to reduce the amount of interference from my senses, though I can do it readily in a lucid dreaming scenario, and sometimes I’m in the weird in-between state of incorporating outside senses such as sound into dreams and creating visuals to match, with perhaps a small lip synch issue. I suspect my sister consciously thinks in pictures, but I never thought to ask.
I have something that some would call mirror-pain synestesia, but it's coming to just be known as "vicarious experience" in literature. If I see people or animals in pain then I will feel a strong constricting, electrifying pain in the back of my thighs, calves, and glutes. This isn't just vivid imagery, it's visceral pain that makes me yelp, cringe, and shudder, and has been directly linked to higher empathy. Of course, I'm only autistic-suspecting at the moment. That being said, I am actually terrible at showing sympathy or empathy because being vulnerable makes me deeply uncomfortable and it is difficult for me to imagine how another person feels if I have not felt that same way before. Crying faces and voices sometimes register as funny in my brain even though I know they aren't, so I might even have a knee-jerk response to laugh when I first see someone crying. Wow, I may have less empathy than I previously thought. I also don't really "miss" friends and family the way that I feel like I should.
I usually miss people right after I’ve said goodbye and I know I wont be able to see them for a long time and right after meeting up with someone after not seeing them for a while. But in between I really don’t
I love love love your sense of style. It reminds me of a pastel pixie meets Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac vibe? Like you would own a pastel tambourine and endless ribbons to meet with your pixie energy.
I knew my brain worked differently to 'normal' people forty years ago. I said as much to my parents and teachers but they just told me I was lazy and to try harder.
on the note of working! some autistic ppl might actually thrive better than neurotypical ppl in 9 to 5 jobs bc we love structure and routine, and a 9 to 5 job can give us that. i work in retail and i love it bc of how repetitive it is
Hi, Chloe! I'm relatively new to your channel and I'm loving your aura. ❤️ I'm a suspect autistic and your videos helped me understand autism better. Hope you are well!
You should get tested for it. I got tested for ADHD and it took me a while to get diagnosed. I was not diagnosed until 3rd grade and I HIGHLY recommend that you get tested. (If it’s safe and worth it in these times.)
@@maddykrantz Hey there! Thanks for your concern. I do want to get tested but right now I'm just seeking to learn as much as I can about ASD. Consultations are pretty expensive in my country, and I want to make sure I sufficiently understand ASD (if that's even possible) before getting into testing. I'm quite afraid that I'd be seen as a hypochondriac...
BRO I WAS DIAGNOSED WAS ASPERGERS AND LIKE BRO I THOUGHT I FELT THE MOST EMOTIONS EVER 😭 My empathy is also through the roof to the point where its a literal problem! My emotions, mostly due to my anxiety, are very extreme, in both good and bad ways.

Although I wouldn’t be able to try and get an ADHD (or autism but this comment in particular is about ADHD) diagnosis until after I become an adult, is there a way of knowing whether there would be any point in trying to get a diagnosis or whether it is just my personality type because I’m an INFP and a lot of INFPs show ADHD traits.
So glad I found your channel. I'm currently in the process of getting a diagnosis at 25 and your videos are helping me understand myself more. I never even knew people ask these things! Shows just how socially unaware I can be at times lol.
Hey. I know the autism diagnosis process can be long and overwhelming, so here's some virtual hugs for you! (Or if you don't like hugs, good vibes!) Also if you have any questions about the process or anything else then this community is pretty much perfect!
Chloe, I so LOVE your "Beauty in Neuordiversity" Butterfly T-Shirt:)!!! And I so LOVE your floral headband, your locket, and your choker necklace:)!! And people do ask the craziest questions. I know people with Autism have "feelings\emotions" because I dated a Boy in High School who was in my L.D. Class and he is Autistic. When I went to High School in the 80s, nothing was known about Autism. My Ex-Boyfriend is now a Psychologist. Well, I happened to read a story that involved him. He helped an Autistic Teenager in England who was about to "commit suicide because he was so badly mistreated" because "he is Autistic". My Ex-Boyfriend told the Young Man that he can have "free Therapy" and my Ex-Boyfriend got help "to raise the money" for this Teenager's Plane Fare to America. Our relationship did not work out because we were young, my Ex-Boyfriend had a lot of anger, and we were not right for each other. However, As an Adult, I am happy the my Ex-Boyfriend as a Psychologist had the "feelings of compassion" to help this Young Man from England:)!! For this reason I can truly say yes, people with Autism have emotions and I also know because Chloe has emotions!! God Bless you Chloe for all the good you do:)!!!
Hey can you talk about the show atypical? As someone who's not diagnosed with autism but from self-evaluation most likely is on the spectrum. I personally like the show all around but I'm just curious about what your perspective is.
So if you have a diagnosis of Aspergers will the fact isn’t used effect you diagnosis? Like will you need to get tested again, will still be able to put it on forms? Sorry if this doesn’t make sense.
If you were diagnosed before it was started to be phased out you can still use the diagnoses, it’s just not being diagnosed anymore. Also it is being subsumed into Asd so you could just say autistic :).
Ik that Aspergers isn’t really used anymore but when I was diagnosed it says Aspergers on my documents I’m not really sure what the right name to use for it or is it ok still to use Aspergers?
I was diagnosed with asperger's too and I just go by autism spectrum disorder and just say I am autistic. There were many people speaking up on how the asperger's term is awful bc Hans Asperger created it to divide autistic people into two groups: Capable enough for society to live and killing us. They also got rid of the 3 different types bc it doesn't make sense to decide autistic people into different groups bc we are all autistic
It should be noted that when people ask this questions they are usually thinking about level 3 autism, a lot of times they don't know about the mild and light flavors.
In my opinion a lot of the "problems" that show up with autism are caused by too much empathy as opposed to too little. The problem is to neurotypical/sociopathical onlookers the results of too much and not enough empathy are very similar. When 2 people fight a third party person with too much or too little empathy will do their best to ignore it. If they have too little it's because the fight is an annoyance. If they have too much empathy they dont want too feel the fight inside themselves. Now the biggest problem is sociopaths(those lacking empathy) will do their best to pretend to have too much instead. So to the neurotypical psychologist what is the difference?
We still use the word Asperger's in the UK as far as I know its just in the US that is no longer used. As I know the DM5 is only used in the US. I'll continue to identify as having Asperger's because that's what I got diagnosed with in the UK in the 90s.
Don't worry about the car thing, I've been driving for four years and I've totaled three cars. 1 arguably wasn't my fault and the last one DEFINITELY wasn't my fault, but my point is it that it's just part of life sometimes
„What is normal? Normal is a setting on the washing machine“- my new fav quote.

Omg your energy!! I just love it😂😂💕💕💕💕💕
I love when autistic people make merch. Because I know it will be me-friendly.
I 👏🏻 LOVE 👏🏻 THIS! 👏🏻 Own those neurotypicals girl!
6:01 wow. That hit hard. I would love to have that label. It would explain everything
I'm literally obsessed with your videos
I actively reach out to my family that is spread all over the U.S. now because they have accused me of not caring about them. It's exhausting. But I've learned it's how they feel love, so it's worth the hard effort to me... My friends understand I come and go, and if they can't understand that, I've learned it's okay to let them drift away.
Asperger's has not been eradicated - it is still being diagnosed in certain places when not using the DSM-5. (It is still under the autism category though and it should no longer be used in a few years).
You are so amazing, Chloe!!
not me going off to google all this stuff to see what the people who googled it saw
yes, we do have emotion, just not the ability to show / control it sometimes. for example, just the thought of a soundtrack of a movie, sometimes gets us teary, just because it stimulates us in that direction so strongly we have no control, we just cry.
Yes I love matcha! ❤️ It's so good (well prepared right)
Awesome!! I love your videos omgggg
I watched the video where you showed your blanket fort bed and Im getting so much inspiration from it!!
Good luck!
@@auroraswarriors Thank you so much for the advice
@@mannuzan8791 Thank you for the advice
Good luck!
I got sooo excited when I saw on your Insta story that you posted a YT video! I was like yaaaaass queeeen!
Your giggle is the sweetest!
I’ve been recently been diagnosed with ADHD and Autism. My psychologist told me about you. I love your channel!
cutest youtube thumbnail ever
I actually googled the definition of normal: tyrns out its actually a mathematical term we use for the 'typical'. I love❤ these videos so much, thank you so much for making accurate content on autism Chloé.
I love your energy
You’re my favourite UA-camr, i found you like a week ago and you have already raised my confidence 📈📈📈📈
Can autistic ppl drive? Yes? Can ppl people with autism AND adhd drive? I mean legally we can.
Like people asking me why I'm not relaxing behind the wheel and just THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ACTIVITY OKAY
@@caitie226 I have 1 specific drive that I love and I dont get to do it anymore so now I just barely drive. Or if I do drive I bring my dog to calm me down
I got adhd and i’m supposed to get my driver license in summer(turn 18) and i’m terrified. Like i am scared bcuz my focus can shift in any minute
"Drink up!" hahaha i died at that matcha bit!
I thought that by "why do autistic people rock" they meant like... rock-star rock and was so happy. Life is disappointing.
Same
There is no such thing as normal. You are right.❤
Tags bother me so much so I get really excited for your merch
The whole object permanence bleeding into your relationships is so true 🤦🏾♀️😭🤭
Thank you for talking about it 💕💕
Where are you getting your flower crowns I love them!!!! I seriously want one for my horse lol

I knew my brain worked differently to 'normal' people forty years ago. I said as much to my parents and teachers but they just told me I was lazy and to try harder.
on the note of working! some autistic ppl might actually thrive better than neurotypical ppl in 9 to 5 jobs bc we love structure and routine, and a 9 to 5 job can give us that. i work in retail and i love it bc of how repetitive it is
Thanks for helping me
I honestly didn’t think I was different until I found out about my ASD diagnosis.
Your shirt is too cool

Your so inspiering and make me smile everyday
This may sound weird but you are honestly so pretty and im 13 so whem in older i pray i look like you your honestly amazing !!!! ❤❤❤❤🌻🌻🌻🥝🥝🥝🍉🍉🍉🥰🥰🥰🥰
You remind me of Björk. Btw I love how fast and precisely you speak. I normally listen to videos on 1.5 because people just speak too slow haha
Love it GOGEL MORE Thanks...
So glad I found your channel. I'm currently in the process of getting a diagnosis at 25 and your videos are helping me understand myself more. I never even knew people ask these things! Shows just how socially unaware I can be at times lol.

Hi Chloe!!!! 😊😊😊
Love this video. Also best thing in my life is watching your videos in 1.5X speed :)
I came across one that asked if autistic people can have kids... Uhhh, okay let me go ask my five kids if I can have kids lol
Hey can you talk about the show atypical? As someone who's not diagnosed with autism but from self-evaluation most likely is on the spectrum. I personally like the show all around but I'm just curious about what your perspective is.
You should do a lookbook
So if you have a diagnosis of Aspergers will the fact isn’t used effect you diagnosis? Like will you need to get tested again, will still be able to put it on forms? Sorry if this doesn’t make sense.
If you were diagnosed before it was started to be phased out you can still use the diagnoses, it’s just not being diagnosed anymore. Also it is being subsumed into Asd so you could just say autistic :).
Mya Merkaj thx
I LOVE THE SHIRT
Ik that Aspergers isn’t really used anymore but when I was diagnosed it says Aspergers on my documents I’m not really sure what the right name to use for it or is it ok still to use Aspergers?
I do!
Do you make matcha lattes?? I am crazy about them!
Your coming to my school next week
It was used in the DSM in the 90s in the US too
Don't worry about the car thing, I've been driving for four years and I've totaled three cars. 1 arguably wasn't my fault and the last one DEFINITELY wasn't my fault, but my point is it that it's just part of life sometimes
