I was looking at both but received a better lease deal with vw. I have no regrets an still loving my car. I honestly like how the artron looks compared to the singer an love how sold it feels. I have said many times I feel like I'm in something of substance. It's a very solid car an you can tell every time you close the doors,I love it.The 4 motion has definitely proven itself to me this winter living in the snow belt. Great reviews an thankyou for reviewing this car again. It was your original review that made me finally stop trying to negotiate with kia an go full steam to get the arteon. I don't drive it like a race car but I definitely have what I need when I need it to merge with traffic. I do like the refresh an hope its still around when my lease is over.

Yeah that car is awesome. I was going to get a 2020 Arteon last year, but I got the 2019 Golf R instead. Would’ve gotten the Arteon if it had more performance and the 7-speed DSG. But regardless, the Arteon is an awesome and unique looking car, no doubt about that

That's because it's not a good value for money and nobody knows about it. The Arteon will never sell well here with the competition in its price range... my 2018 Passat GT is just as good looking, more powerful with the VR6 engine, and cost me $24.6K out the door.
I own the exactly the same car, I love it ! I hate when people compare it to the stinger. Compare it to Mercedes Audi bmw. It’s like you comparing it to wine vs grape juice.
I just got my 2020 stinger GT limited and that car is the best car i have ever owned and one of the best value for money you can get. I got a demo with 11k for 45500$ with 2.99% for 48 month before Tax. Did an extended 200k warranty with it. It drive like a dream, with tons of power and comfort. 160 feels like 100 with my old 2016 sonata. The cabin is just amazing with the red nappa leather. Every one that saw the car was in shock how nice it is. I launched it at list 20 times and the power it has is incredible. I still can't believe i own a stinger GT. 😄
Arteon for me. I have a C7 for my speed needs. For those that say just get the A5, you can get the fully loaded Arteon for around $42k with no haggling. You can’t get close to an A5, with the same features, for that price. Beautiful vehicle. Definitely going to consider once my A4 lease is up.
True, well said...still fast enough to get a ticket....I went to to the Audi factory in Germany, and the meet this car broker he said the same thing...so I bought one too. They said in the factory that the share tech etc. It was interesting that had a rail line direct into the German factory from Italy with Lamborghinis to get painted as Audi has better paint...go figure lol

I had considered the Tiguan, but at only 184 HP, it is 16 down on my "08 Passat wagon and sometimes that doesn't seem enough.
Bought the same exact vehicle he’s demoing , be careful because the inventory is not vast like the Jetta for example and you might have trouble locating the model and color that you prefer

All VW are under marketed except the Tiguan. Which if I'm not mistake was their best selling car.
Watched your video again after a year and I still feel that some of what you pointed out is so unique and refreshing! For example, the 3 stage heated steering, the ratcheting and sliding armrest, the aging factor, etc. Really thoughtful review that doesn't just list a bunch of features that people can easily read about.

I just got my 2021 premium tuned (APR stage 1, 91 Octane) Got a HP bump to 360 and Torque to 370. Brings this engine to life for sure and zero to 60 down to sub 5 secs. It cost $580 including tax so well worth it. I am past the 50K miles mark so I not concerned about the warranty. However if one did a tune and had to get some warranty work done, it can be reset to the stock software prior to taking it in for the warranty work. But it's still a risk, so consider that prior to doing a tune.
I knew nothing about the Arteon until I saw one in the show room. I was floored. What a beautiful car! I was impressed by the build quality and the features. Over 260 HP with AWD.
Yet nothing in advertising. NOTHING. Not in print or TV. No one knows this car exists. No wonder they only sold 2400. Why doesn't VW market it?
Great review and awesome car. I've owned a 2019 SE for about 4 months and love the Arteon. I'd take styling over Stinger all day. Sportback hatch was main driver for me to choose between BMW GT, Arteon, or Stinger. I love that I can put a full size bike in back without removing front tire.
had mine about 5 weeks, love it. Wish the glove box would accommodate the owner's manual and the stereo head unit acted up once, but overall high qualify, fun to drive, German-engineered blast to drive! SEL Premium R-Line is the way to go! High of 37.5mpg HWY with 91 octane premium fuel. Confident and Happy with my selection. I thought my 2018 VW Passat SEL Premium had a lot of room, this Arteon is roomier AND the liftback was key to my decision.

I just bought a 2021 Arteon for my wife. We both love it. Our fully loaded SEL Premium R-Line is a stylish, luxurious alternative to the more expensive Audi A5. Would definitely recommend it over the Stinger.
Theres better luxury cars for the price of a arteon, its a good looking car, but the interior just always reminds me of a jetta. The better option would be the g70 in my opinion you can get one for around the same price as a arteon, while feeling more premium.

I live in nyc where luxury german cars are bountiful thus no one cares. I've only seen the Arteon once. It zoomed passed me and I saw the rear end and long brake light, it was in black and it was amazing. The only other time is at the dealer, and I must say, that front end is very menacing!
If you live in America Lincoln and Cadillac is the best option.

I have a 2020 SEL R-Line 4 Motion and I love it! Good upgrades on the 2021, for me not enough for the increase in price that VW placed on this model. Overall great car! I live in Southern California and we don’t see very many Arteons on the road, so having one feels good!

I'm a life long VW/Audi guy with a 2012 CC. I don't care about the V6, the Shooting Brake would make me very happy.
A V6 engine would be more smooth to drive from a luxury point of view than a 4 cylinder. The best performance luxury engine class is the V8 but they are now becoming hard to find.

The Arteon is completely underrated. It may not be the fastest but its absolutely built like a tank, looks great and comes with a great warranty.

Lemme stop you right there at 1:39 mark. It's not that people in USA don't know what the Arteon is when comparing sales numbers from EU to USA, the difference is in what you get in the car for your money. In the last decade, the features and advanced materials in USA VW's has paled in comparison to offerings around the word with the exception of the SUV's and the Golf lineup of vehicles. The 2022 Arteon is the first model of that car offered in USA that is actually worth buying.
Just got mine last week in black. Same trim, same wheels. It's a brilliant car. Epic highway cruiser. 268hp is actually a good amount for this car. It doesn't feel slow. Mine is going to APR when it's run in though.. 😁 APR+ is good for 360hp.

European specs differs a bit. We've got the R version which has 330HP (stock), 7-speed dual-cluch gearbox (DSG), tail lights are different (black inside), multimedia device is Discover PRO with no knobs at all and even bigger screen. And on top of that - there is a station wagon available as well. But anyway - I confirm that this is a special car. Certainly one of the best, that VW has ever made and for sure - the prettiest. True flagship (one of two in VW lineup - the other one is Touareg, but that's a different segment). I own one, I drive it everyday, I enjoy it. In this price range you get a really quick car, with semi autonomous driving, tons of equipment and which easily beats entry level Panamera in terms of performance. I love it.

I just bought my 2021 Arteon in kings re metallic with the matte black wheels from the 2020, and it is R-Line, I also bought the 2021.5 Atlas Basecamp SEL. I love both of these so much 😍

The problem is that American cars are not freely available in Europe because of all the regulations and taxes imposed on them.

VIN numbers starting with ‘W’ are not always built in GERMANY, you need to check digit 11 for the assembly plant. The TOUREG and AUDI Q7 ‘D’ is built in Slovakia and the EOS ‘V’ is built in Portugal. Both VIN’s start with ‘W’

Overall, I think this car is a bargain for what it gives you in terms of performance, convenience, and tech. When comparing cargo room, back seat leg room, performance and style, any comparable is just way more expensive.. Crazy how much people are willing to pay more for a simple badge but get less overall value! Great video
Excellent review! I agree that the Arteon will age better than the Stinger. Like many, I would rather have a GT car than a sports car, almost 270 hp is enough for me. Not confirmed, but I did hear that for 2022, VW may offer the 315 hp engine for the R Line upper trim and may discontinue the Passat.
Horsepower is not important.
Torque and capacity and how many cylinders are far more important. You could have a car with 200 hp that is a V8 with 5 litre capacity and it would feel wonderful to drive especially in a family sized car.
I love the Arteon Shooting Brake ... I got mine in june 21. It is real rare over here in germany. Most guys got the sedan version.
I like the fact that it is a grown car, no need to prove itself like a Golf R32 / Stinger whatsoever. Its descent and it is fast.
I got the 2.0l 210PS - diesel version, which brings the consumption to as low as 5.5l /100km.
Taking delivery of mine in three weeks already bought stage 2 apr upgrade love this car test drove it fell in love it's like my b6 passat but on steroids literally

I bought my daughter a Jetta last year and there was a shiny Arteon on the floor. The dealer principle told me that he "hates" the car and that VW "shoved it down their (US dealers) throats". I was surprised. Great looking sedan that will probably be my next car.
The dealers do may not like them because they are not yet selling in numbers that can justify their floor and commercial space.
Come back in 10 years time and the dealers may love them.

I had a Stinger on a lease which went back a few months ago. Here in the UK they discontinued the Stinger otherwise I would have had a new one so I went with the Arteon instead. It’s a lovely car. It has sharper lines than the Stinger and a lot more room inside. The Stinger has more power and is rear wheel drive as opposed to the Arteon front wheel drive. Out of the two I still prefer the Stinger but, alas, they are no more in the UK.

If that is an EU build VW, you will easily understand why nobody compares Kias with VWs in Europe, they are in different classes.

that is volkswagen major problem, even though they own audi, audi exerts much power over them. Audi doesnt want vw sales to interfere with theirs. VW is a luxury brand in Germany, it could be here too. VW purposely downgrades their own cars to make audi buyers feel better.

I have 2019 Arteon R-line Canada I take it this 2021 still did not have Carnet. Can't wait for your review of the 2022 with the 7spd and VW Carnet. Had a 2019 Jetta Exceline with digital cockpit and wondered why the 2019 Arteon was not same at first but with the upgraded not disappointed in no digital dash, mine is like only one around love it!

Love the review! I'm up between a 2021 Arteon & 2018-2019 a5/s5 sportback seeing as they are similar in price, however the IQ drive safety feats might really seal the deal on Arteon.

I have an arteon and my wife had the a5, the arteon is so quite a bit bigger. I’m 6 4 so I wasn’t as big of a fan of the a5. Now we swapped the for the q5 and like that a lot more. Regardless the arteon is my favourite of the three by far

I bought a 21 Stinger GT 1 RWD.
Also: I traded a 2018 VW GTI SE 6M. This Stinger (Ceramic / Red interior) gets crazy attention.

I own a 2013 V6 it has more luxury features than the new one. Im keeping my fingers crossed nobody runs into me because theres nothing available 2-day i could replace my car with for what i paid new for it. VW has in my opinion gone backwards for not offering the V6 anymore. I will never sell my V6 cc all wheel drive loaded car !!
We have the 2016 2.0 tsi CC and I’ve been looking for a new gen 3.6 CC but haven’t found a low mile one. The 3.6 New gen CC is gem the only thing that sucks is it does not come with the Legendary DSG transmission but oh well

The issue is not that VW is not making V6 cars the real issue is that the EU wannabe state has put regulations in place that is making it very difficult for manufacturers to make cars.
While this is all going on Asia is outputting far more carbon than the US and EU combined. European and North American air is some of the best quality in the world.
You guys don`t need V6, be honest.

Only one problem with my Arteon. 20 inch wheels. Every big pothole blows out a tire. I am keeping Continental Tire in business. Otherwise .. nothing like having a car no one has heard of. One of the most comfortable cars I have ever driven.

As someone else mentioned 20s ARE A JOKE. I put 18s on mine after 8000 miles. BEST thing I ever did.
I bought my Arteon on July of 2019 and since then I've only seen about 2 Arteons on the road. I get compliments all the time...it might have to do too, to the fact that I customized it, so it looks different. When you have a brand new Porsche Panamera next to you and the guy driving it is looking at your car and telling you its an awesome car and giving you the thumbs up, you better believe it. Too bad i can post a picture. By the way I live in Northern California( Bay Area)
Yeah, but it is far far from Panamera driving experience, as is the price, respectively. Here in EU, people call it bodybuilder's Passat and it is not very popular, but very nice design afaik.
I have a 2020 Audi A5 and one of the main reasons I got it over the Arteon was because of the DCT and the RWD bias. I was coming from a 17 VW CC so I was really looking forward to the Arteon when it first debuted here. Sad that across the pond they have a better engine AND a DCT and we got a nerfed version.
Arteon vs Stinger. For someone like me who owns both a KIA (Sorento) and a VW (GTI), there's no brand bias. Furthermore, the proper comparison isn't between the Arteon with a version of the ubiquitous EA888 2.0L turbo 4 banger and the Stinger's high performance twin turbo 3.3L V6 but the Arteon and the Stinger base 2.0L turbo engine. On that score I'd give the nod to the Arteon especially considering the low cost Stage I ECU tune of the VW engine that increases its HP and torque significantly. (And contrary to a widespread belief it does NOT invalidate the VW warranty unless the ECU mods have led directly to a warranty issue. A condition that I've yet to see in GTIs, Golf Rs or other EA888 engines.)
On the other hand, when the 2022 Stinger becomes available in the US it will almost certainly offer the new 2.5L turbo 4 cylinder engine that's available in the Genesis G80, GV80, the KIA Sorento, the KIA K5 GT, and the Hyundai Sonata N-Line. In fact, it's already available in the new Stinger in Korea. That may not be a game changer but it will make the Arteon's advantage far less certain if not erase it altogether.
I'd also give the Arteon the nod if it were available with the dual clutch (DSG) transmission available in Europe. But North Americans tend to be picky about the behavior of dual clutch transmissions so VW offers a conventional stepped automatic in the US. Whether that will be true of the Stinger when the 2.5L engine comes along is uncertain. Some versions of new engine are paired with a new 8 speed wet dual clutch gearbox while others use a conventional torque converter.
Otherwise, I think the choice for North Americans is between a relatively faithful version of a European GT sedan at an affordable price and a Korean version of a European GT vehicle designed by Germans for American tastes. Personally, I agree that the overall look of the Arteon will remain a classic profile a decade or two down the road while the Stinger design won't age as well. And on a personal note I can't ignore the awful fake vent just behind the front wheels of the Stinger but looks are subjective and others may disagree.
If I were in the market I'd wait to see what KIA offers on the 2022 Stinger before deciding.

I think you nailed it. Beautiful and polished car. Just really let down by the engine. No reason why VW can’t up the acceleration a bit. I know they don’t want to cannibalize A5 sales, but no reason why the car should be this slow off the line. So easy to increase the power a bit.
Otherwise the car is wonderful,
more like a budget A7. The Stinger definitely lacks that Germanic feel, but I think that’s primarily the exterior design which is too juvenile with the fake hood vents.
I also have a Arteon R and i must say they did a FANTASTIC job on this vehicle. I'd say it handles almost as good as my Audi S6!

I own a StingerGT AWD, and so not to sound biased, but I would pick the Stinger all over again. The Arteon is a very nice attempt to give VW owners a taste of Audi’s A5 sedan, but at the end of the day it’s no StingerGT. The irony here is that the Stinger was engineered & designed by VW guys from Audi as well as Chief Engineer at BMW M Division. So the Stinger is German through and through. But the factors that really matter here are the numbers - 365hp, 380lbs torque. The Arteon cannot touch that, and it’s a shame VW didn’t give the Arteon more power. The interior is also subjective. You were talking about the design and feel of the interior being more upscale, and then the video cut to a roll of the Stinger’s cockpit, and it was truly the more ambitious interior. The iPad style infotainment screen & the round avionic a/c vents is what sets it apart. But again, my opinion is solely subjective to what I like.
The Aerton is not suppose to be a sports car. It is a large luxury car not a compact performance monster.
No matter how hard they try with the Stinger it will never be as nice looking or as good to drive.
