This is my favourite song of all time. It's from the album Ten Summoner's Tales. Every track is wonderful. I think the songs were inspired by the songs of French Troubadors in Medieval times. It's why the lyrics are so unique and original. Poetry to music, essentially, at least for me. Timeless .
Dominic Miller who plays guitar here wrote the riff and gave it to Sting. Sting listened to it and found the story of a gambler who plays to figure out the secrets of life but it's also about how difficult it is to live with someone who doesn't betray his thoughts or emotions. The legendary Larry Adler played Harmonica on this track for the album recording. The song has been sampled over 100 times and used in various TV and film. Ten Summoner's Tales is Sting's seminal work. Do yourself a favor and take 50 minutes and listen to the entire album. The video was from the home video version of the recording of the album. It won a Grammy for best long form video. The film was made at Sting castle the Lake House in the English countryside near Stonehenge.
Great review. It's also nice to have someone listen to this masterpiece and not get bogged down by the fact it was sampled. So glad you enjoyed it, That's the English countryside not the Irish countryside. How dare you? 😉
sting is amazing british artist. bit of accent in his voice when singing thats in the uk is called a geordie accent . thats from the city of newcastle. all the outside is the beautiful english country side
He says I am not a man with too many faces, the mask I wear is one! But if he has a mask on, than that means HE HAS 2 FACES😮 ..... I don't, I think I am high 😂
