This is a question for the 0372, as a Retired USMC FORECON 0326, now simply designated 0321, I've attended a few social gatherings where a CSO was present and have heard a few say that they wished they had stayed with FORECON instead of going on to be a Raider If you could do it over would you stay with FORECON or would you still do selection and indoc + the added 6 year contract to go 0372.

Loving the show and about 10 years later seeing Patrick and Jason in an veterans reaction clip, loving the tone and dynamic they have and then obviously subscribing to their own channel. And then out of the blue seeing a pic of Jason and Rudy, the only one i knew was a real marin on the show, is a long way for me to say that the world is small sometimes.. TLDR: cool video bruh. Big ups to Lilley, Patrick, the USMC and the rest of the active and reserve military. I believe we were as careful and honorable as we could be in those chaotic circumstances.
That clip series really reminds me of something I cut together back in 2009. I had just gotten out of the Air Force. At the time I didn't realize that it was based on the commencement of combat operations in 2003/2004. I had a chance to hang out with a few Marines since then. Hearing that the Cobras and fixed wing air support was comforting to the ground soldiers... Seeing the faces of people that I might have helped by being an aircraft mechanic... It feels like an old wound is closing, some old doubts are being put to rest.
It reminds me of when I was little; back in 1988 or 89. My dad was Army. He came home one day with his mo bag and showed me and my brother the chem gear and a flac vest. He talked about needing to go to fight bad people. I was 4 or 5 years old. That was his war.
I still don't have any kids. When I went I didn't have to explain where I was going or what I was going to do. I think the deployment was harder for some than others. I was sent in to replace another crew chief. I hoped to boost morale a bit; have some cake and ice cream... haha. That's when I bought my first digital camera, a Nikon P90 I think. A little hand held with a long optical zoom.
Some part of me is very okay with war. The part of me that wants to protect my compatriots. To provide the best weapons on Earth to the most disciplined fighters on Earth. I respect the qualities of front line fighters, thanks to the reporting, the literature, the UA-cam channels and veterans. My personal conflicts aside, I enjoyed the personal time I spent with people when death loomed overhead. That's when the bluster and peacocking evaporated and a true meritocracy arose. Race be dammed, they needed the best on hand.
I might have taken it too lightly. As much as I butted heads with Utley, I felt like he respected me. When I asked for a birthday cake, he drove me to pick one up from the mess hall (operated by Army). He drove me to get my wisdom teeth pulled in an emergency surgery. He made me field strip my AR in front of the SSgts to help prove I knew my stuff. He even put me on heavy maintenance instead of the menial pre/post flight inspections or "mid shift" maintenance. We were the closest when our backs were to a barbed wire fence.
I still feel like the little brother to Marines. Handing them guns and ammo, armor and air support. Anti-Terrorism requires an ability to use social cues and non-verbal language to determine who dies in the next 5 seconds. I can see why certain police departments would scour the workforce for people capable of that particular role.

Some creative criticism; it would be nice next time to maybe pause the clip while you're discussing it, because I found it hard at times to focus on what you were saying with another conversation going on in the background. It also felt like bits were getting talked over that would've been enjoyable to hear your input on.
Also, pausing to look up the characters you're talking about could help, because in one bit there was total confusion over who was being discussed for a straight like fifteen seconds. Might just help with the structure/flow a little.
But it's really cool hearing your input; hearing from people who were there, and people who have relevant experience. It's really insightful. Thanks for the vid, enjoyed it!

What a wasted opportunity. You could have actually prepared for this fucking video by watching everything beforehand, gathering context for the clips, writing down the names, show him some of the scenes where he was portrayed, and then you could ASK question and actually pause the clips for his answers. Wtf

random question (and I know the source is not reliable) but I once read on reddit that recon post like 2006 never really got combat deployments again. I was shocked as Marines were heavily involved in all the Afghanistan surge stuff. Is this true? Was it the re introduction of the raiders that changed everything for them?
