For the Good Times (Ray Price) reaction
Ray's gorgeous, silky baritone, the poetry of Kris Kristofferson, and wonderful orchestral production make this one of the most sublime sad songs in music history.

The Impossible Dream (Grace VanderWaal) reaction

Gorgeous song, wonderful orchestra, lovely Grace, but her voice is strained and stretched, taking away some of the impact and emotional effect. Wish I didn't have to say that, but there it is. Please give me YOUR opinion on the performance. Seriously!

Benjamin Orr's voice again takes you places, and Ric Ocasek's guitar, lyrics and arrangement give us that splendid quirkiness that defines the cars. Orr's bass on this is terrific too, along with the keyboard funk.

These guys had such a cool, funky sound that somehow still managed melody and musical impact. This is a fantastic (though a bit cynical) take on the psychodrama of relationships, with Orr's voice carrying us away.

There just simply may be no better duo harmony in the history of music. Combine that with exquisite acoustic guitar and a strong drum/bass backing and a bohemian lyrical journey and longing for home, and you get this masterpiece.

How is it possible, my friends, that a majestic masterpiece like this sublime song could ever be created and exquisitely performed to absolute perfection, rocketing the human spirit to places unseen but purely felt? It is an Odyssean journey of lyrical loneliness counterposed by soaring orchestration of defiance and hope. Just wow. 00:00 Setting scene 01:30 Reaction begins

Man, man, man, man, MAN! This adorable and delightful Scottish lady has the pipes and undulating emotional inflections that mesmerize and captivate. This is an exquisite song, with wonderful drum work, guitars and, yes, violins till your heart's content. It was the biggest song in the U.S. in 1967 and rightfully so!

This is very well written, angsty, sublime in moments, powerful, a choral powerhouse with fine instrumentation, and Grace's voice is almost back to where it used to be always emotionally affecting. I hope this is a harbinger of things to come.

One of the greatest and most emotional voices of all time singing one of the greatest lyrics (Bacharach/David) of all time. This is a goose-bumpy performance by Cilla in 1964. Absolutely mesmerizing. LOVE LOVE LOVE this lady!

The wonderful lyrics are about ecology and what man is doing to the world, but again, Marvin conveys his meaning with such tenderness and emotion that even if you don't completely agree with him, it just doesn't matter because the beauty of his sound is almost unmatched.

If modern music and rap had even half of this man's brilliance for lyric, meaning and melody, I might listen to it. Marvin is a template for class and transcendent emotion and message all rolled into one amazing man.

Powerful orchestration and choral magnificence with a mellifluous narrative integration about Quasimodo and other characters make this 7-minute intro on the movie "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" a moving experience. Wow! From Patrick Page's channel: ua-cam.com/video/qtuUw5jnTns/v-deo.html
Something in Your Eyes (Tori Holub) reaction

Wow, a Carpenters song I'd never heard of. Turns out it was never performed by Karen because of her tragic demise. It was written by Richard, and Tori has now done her rendition. She does a bang-up, moving performance, but the song, unfortunately (for me), is rather mediocre. I hope you enjoy.

    I admit, also, she really had to strain and push her vocalization and it didn't sound like her. That was difficult for her to sing. She would have needed more capacity and more practice...it was forced. I agree with the reactor. But she did her best and put her heart into it, so all was not lost on this song.

    Everyone from the Eagles is (was) perfect, but I found Glen's voice to be one of the most beautiful ever. So calm and yet so expressive, heavenly. This is one of my favorite songs of theirs, Don Felder's guitar is so beautiful and I love Randy's high voice in the chorus. I can really listen to this song over and over again.

    I'll have to take exception to your calling Dave a "one hit wonder". He has a long and storied career as a singer/songwriter/guitarist and is widely considered one of the world's foremost at all three. His first hit was in the 1960's called: "You're feeling alright." and it is one of the most covered songs in history. Like a lot of of UA-cam reviewers, if you're going to post it, it's always a good idea to do some research first.

That’s sounds a bit much but what other performance quality of artistry song writing can I remember equal to this ? Maybe David Gilmore, bochelli, Led Zeppelin at their best, only something on that level can compare, not to mention Jennifer seems to be an Angel, hmm I simply cannot imagine any song performance more magnificent than…. Growing up in the late 80s early 90s on hard rock/heavy metal, I distinctly remember hearing her voice for the first time thinking "who the hell is that, who sings like that?". She has a one-in-a-million voice, full of sophistication, control, and operatic power. She could have been an opera diva, and ended up being IMO probably the greatest pop singer ever.

  • @Cee-t8r

    I completely agree with you on this. It came across as forced, heavy and overdone, which means it wasn't at all natural for her. Someone can post a list of all of the traits her voice is known for, but a beautiful and unique voice doesn't always mean she's going to elevate a song to something it's not. I think she relies too much on the raspy qualities of her voice. We all love Grace, right, and she's uniquely beautiful and mesmerizing. But this wasn't a stellar performance.

    • @daxmusix
      @daxmusix 24 дні тому

      @@Cee-t8r Spot on. “Forced, heavy and overdone” are the perfect adjectives for this uncomfortable performance. There is almost no real joy or ecstasy in this. Grace is the Johnny Depp of music. She is weird and fresh and new. You don’t really know what to expect, except for something extraordinary. At least, that’s how she used to be. I’m surprised, honestly, that any of her fans really like this performance. It seems to me that she really did not want to be here.

    • @Jeff_674
      @Jeff_674 18 днів тому

      It is an exceptional performance, and the high praise she has received for it, as well as it being the most viewed performance from this night of industry legends, seems to back that up. Her interpretation of the song is powerful, and she delivered it with the emotive vulnerability that is a staple of hers. She didn't "force" anything. The performance not fitting your preferences is a different matter.

    • @Jeff_674

      @@daxmusix Not at all the case. The complete opposite actually. In her red carpet interviews from this event, she seemed to feel unworthy to be there and was tremendously honored at the opportunity, and it has certainly paid dividends.
