    One of the fun things about you copying atraxa is that sometimes you would find imodane's recruiter in the top 7 and then send it to the bottom of the deck by not picking it, ensuring you won't hit it.

  • @normative
    @normative Рік тому +93

    The case for leaving in the recruiter in main deck seems pretty strong: Even in the rare cases where you whiff & hit it on the first or second spin, a clone or second carnosaur in hand still leaves you a chance to win on a later turn, while a wrath after the combo goes off and hits most of your clones is virtually a guaranteed loss.

    • @ericaschner3283
      @ericaschner3283 Рік тому +11

    I think the recruiter probably makes the deck better overall, even if it adds the 'fail' rate (which still wins a good amount of the time). I also think that the deck should probably run 2 more lands and should have 1 more Mountain and 2 Cavern of Souls. I think the Olivia's in the SB could also just be Caverns as well.

    I usually see this deck with "Nahiri's Resolve" being the one-off finisher. It does the same thing as "Imodane's Recruiter" but with the added bonus of granting a permanent haste boost to the board, in case the first combo fizzles.
    EDIT: And if the Carnosaur does a complete whiff and finds the "resolve" immediately, you can try exiling it with the resolve and hopefully try again the next turn, while avoiding sorcery speed creature removal.

    Seth please explain why the Leyline binding the Leyline binding Trick worked. Because my group seems to think that was not a real ruling on the interactions. They said the first Leyline would make the Carnosaur leave the feild because apparently it has to resolve before the other Leyline enters the field to keep the combo from stopping. So my head is exploding about this. I’ve played for ten years and this is strange interaction that I can’t seem to get straight.

    • @goomshill
      @goomshill Рік тому +6

      One argument for imodanes is that you can use imodane + 8x clones to be able to combo off even through negate/thalia. But see double scuttles that. My normal is 8x clones + nahiri's resolve, since even if you brick to a thalia you probably dumped an overwhelming board against a deck with no sweepers
      I also run 30 lands with 4x eiganjos. Whiffing on land drops on a deck that wants to reach 6 mana and can't draw well, that's bad

  • @jertlemiah

    The math is a bit different than 91% to win, because you probably need to win two spins. First spin is 11 in 12 which is 91.7% then if you hit the recruiter you have 11 power. Next it's a 10 in 11 to bring you to 19 power (after the recruiter), which in total is a 10 in 12 chance, or about a 83.3% chance. For three spins (when the opponent 27 or more life) that's an additional 9 in 10, dropping you to 75%.
    If the opponent has blockers, you probably need even more power on the board, so here's the next couple ones: 66.7% for four spins, 58.3% for five spins, 50% for six spins
    EDIT* forgot the power that Recruiter added & forgot a clone (changed the percentages by about 3%)

    • @AricHaldan0782
      @AricHaldan0782 Рік тому +8

      The power is actually higher, since it's 7+1= 8 power for each carnosaur and another 3 power for the imodane recruiter. That means two succesful spins before hitting imodane is 27 power, rather than 21 power. And if they've taken any damage at all from their lands, one good spin is already enough, with 19 power. Extra blockers though might require more spins.

    • @jertlemiah

    • @ecoKady
      @ecoKady Рік тому +2

      And that's just the combo percentage. Half the time it fizzles, you still hit one clone and recruiter. You won't win on the spot, you did just swing with 16 trampling damage and have two 7/6 tramplers on the battlefield for next turn. If they answer your Carnosaurs, you have plenty of janky big creatures to be able to finish them off anyway.
      Even on a fizzle, your ultimate win percentage is still going to be very high.

    There's a reason for the first 20 years of Magic that 6 drops had an enormous amount of power and why you never ran 6 drops in constructed. If you want to see 5 lands in a game, you need to see about 7 cards (in addition to your initial 7). To see 6 lands, you need to see about 10 cards. Probability is a little funny that way.
    The end result is that 6 lands is far harder to get to than 5 lands. You're not imagining things.

    I imagine the reason more people don't play See Double is the "8 cards in graveyard" restriction (for actually making it really good); instant speed Clone often isn't good enough.
    Just had to double check the card because my main deck atm is a historic simic enchantress ramp deck that loves Sublime Epiphany on Sanctum Weaver/Timeless Witness - if I wanted just the clone effect in historic I could run Cackling Counterpart, and I can't rely on my opponent getting 8 cards in the bin naturally.

    This deck works overly well with one copy of quintorious in the main to replace recruiter and one copy of nahiris resolve in the side to replace quintorious when you need to win on the spot against decks with wrath spells. Other than that. It works just fine when they can’t stop the combo and the added effect of quintorious L’s static ability will more often than not kill your opponent before you swing in with the trumpeting army the turn after.

    Needing 2+ clones has a 1 in 6 fail rate. There is 132 ways to choose 2 cards from 12 without replacement. 110 of them will hit 2 clones (success), 22 of them will hit Recruiter (fail). 2 clones will give you 24 damage 21 of which is trample. That seems fine in most cases.
    3 Clones will be 31 damage with 28 Trample. Those odds are 1320 ways to choose 3 cards from 12 without replacement. 990 will hit 3. This will have a 1 in 4 fail rate.
    If you can add the 12th clone your odds become about 85% and 77% respectfully (about 2% better).

    M1G2 is 100% a mull-to-5. As we saw, we have two lands, but neither can cast any card in the hand so we're at the mercy of our top card.

    You people call this jank. But from what I saw. This deck worked just like it was supposed to. The higher mama cost is offset by channel abilities that can’t be countered in the first place. Allowing for a guaranteed combo to hit. This deck sits on the side of busted in a standard format. Sorry but that’s the truth. Expect to see these cards prices jump up now.

    use tome of the infinite with arcane bombardment, paradox engine, and a couple mana rocks, and quandrix pledgemage. the combo is infinite, but it is just as insufferable for you as it is for your opponent. throw in oracle of the alpha to make it truly infinite.

    Swap the 3 mana haste enabler with Nahiri'Resolve and add a Quintorious or two. Enables the combo to restart should it hit with the first Carnosaur with Resolve and Quint adds extra damage/life gain and ensures to hit a 4 mana copy effect to keep the party going. This video is kind of an odd version of this deck.
