  • Collectively, Justice and I together have put 70,000 miles on our GTI’s and now I’m taking a road trip to Colorado and I am talking about what I have experienced. Yes mine does have an aftermarket exhaust it is lowered but it is more or less still the same car it’s still a golf it’s still a GTI so what has that been like?

    you have more miles on your MK8 than I have on my 2015 MK7 GTI and it was my daily.

      This is collective the 40th has 20k and the 2022 has 48k but yes we do drive a lot

      We do indeed drive a lot 😂 and that’s awesome my mk6 was my first VW and that’s what got me hooked I miss that car!

    You drive like I do. Was curious about this kind of reliability on a mk8 gti might go look at a 2024 later.

    Tell me a manufacturer that has great paint for that kind of driving? Almost all are using the same techniques and materials, just different colors and tints.

      I actually would disagree with this , Volkswagen Tesla and Subaru all use cheap and thin paint / clear coat . Volvo has a particularly strong combo from what I’ve seen and heard there’s plenty of manufacturers out there that have better paint as far as longevity goes

      @@octane_media Maybe Volvo, but add Mazda, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Tesla, and Nissan to the list. If anyone else reading this has experience on with other brands, please share.
      I think it might have to do with price segment and recent volvo's aren't necessarily in the same bracket as ones I just listed (barring Tesla as they have notoriously dubious quality for the asked price).

    Have you noticed any faint burble while idle with your aftermarket exhaust? I have a Unitronic catback and can hear lil faint burbles while idling

      I do definitely hear this like a slight gurgling on idle !

    I'm torn between the touring and track exhaust for my mk8. If you could go back, would you still recommend the track over the touring?

    • @octane_media
      @octane_media  5 місяців тому

      I would still get the track edition I like a little bit more sound from the car . I 100 percent do not regret my decision. They also do sell the extra muffler/resonator separately if you do find it’s too loud for your taste

    3.41 for premium. I just filled up earlier here in Michigan/Ohio area and it was 4.40 and the R only gets 26 MPG

    • @octane_media
      @octane_media  5 місяців тому

      It’s about 3.10 for 91 back home

      @@octane_media Im jealous now. i like my R, but i also drive a lot and I think I should have bought the GTI especially when i go on the highway for long drives. The GTI is also more relaxed for highway cruising which is nice.

      @@bucknut2000 I actually still haven’t had the chance to drive a mk8 R so I have no idea how they compare ! I definitely miss AWD though coming from my STI as a daily.

      @@octane_media The big difference is the handling and gearing in my opinion. The engine rev more, the gearing is much shorter. In my neighborhood im in 4th usually by 40 MPH im in 6th in in normal driving. On the HWY at 75 ur above 3K RPM and you dont really need to downshift. Handling wise, the car feels a little heavier but no matter what you do, it will get you through that corner. You can hit the pedal much earlier, handling wise its a big jump. For day to day driving though ,I prefer my MK7 GTI but I rarely took my GTI to drive for half an hour just to go find off ramps, col de sacs , corners just to drive like I do for my R.

      @@bucknut2000 I could definitely understand that now that you’ve broken it down for me. I still would love to experience it for myself to compare , the last R I had driven was a mk7 R when my wife had totaled her GTI we were looking at one it had some electrical issues as it had been hit and I don’t think whomever put it back together had done the best job .
