@Rejoice Always Right? I wish we were that clever back in the early 90's. I had to quit as I ended up with lung problems. And yes that space helmet is brilliant. Most of the really difficult kitties we had the vet would prescribe them meds to calm their nerves so we could groom them. I hated seeing them put on meds like that, but we didn't have clever tools back then like they do now. The thing I miss most about grooming is scissoring. I don't know why people get long haired pets if they arent going to be brushing them regularly from when they are a kitten or a puppy. Taking them to the groomer in this state is appalling. I feel bad for the cat, he hasn't been cared for properly.

The dog isn't even matted or something, they just prefer it short coated.
Just why
@@sendmorerum8241 I live in FL. We've got a shih tzu mix rescue dog (they said he was purebred, but those long legs imply otherwise.) We took home the dog who got along with us and his coat didn't matter to that. We keep him shaved down, and you can literally see the difference it makes. When he's due for a groom, he's calm and quiet. For the first few weeks (even in what passes as winter here) after, he's bouncing around the house wanting to play all the time. He's definitely shaved more than twice a year, though.
i have to get my Maine Coon groomed because he no longer allows me to groom him at home. i kept up with it when he was younger, but then I moved away for college and my parents didn't do it as often as I did. Now he is a grumpy old man and tries to bite me for just brushing him. 🤷♀️

Yeah! I thought that too. 💙
@@David-ud9ju you see how he is slightly closing his eyes as she shaves behind his ears? That’s a sign that he is enjoying what is happening
@@David-ud9ju I see the anger and tension leave Kitty's face quickly by 1:20 during the ear work. The thing about mats like that is they continuously pull a circle of hair toward the center, so at any given moment just resting a bunch of individual hairs are getting pulled HARD. Moving around, or touching or worse bumping/pressing/tugging a mat relieves this tension on one side but multiplies it on the other. As soon as you cut one side of a mat's root hairs free, it's like a switch turning off for much the hard hair pulling sensation in that entire mat.
@@digishade7583 Maybe it's massaging his head.
I truly appreciate how patient and understanding you are no matter your client's temperament. People love to say that a pet is "angry" when it's just stressed and uncomfortable and fear disguised as anger is their natural response in stressful situations. It takes a smart person to sense that the animal cannot handle more of a stressful situation they are in and that is best for their sake to stop. Well done
No doubt the groomer knows that and it's the reason she remains calm.
People are the same way!
@@mattheww239 - They are. I was a pediatric nurse for over 20 years. That fear was always a major factor that I had to work with. Her demeanor is the way one tells an animal that she's not a danger.
No, really, anger goes with stress and discomfort.
The cat literally bared it's teeth, tried to bite, hissed which they do to mimic snakes, and when that didn't work he swatted his razor beans and to top it all off, shat on her. That isn't just stress. That's premeditated feline passive aggression. Remember this is from an animal that will literally kill just for the sport of it and I find it amusing when people act as if their just naive, innocent, helpless balls of fur that can do no wrong 🤣

My cat was but I had a water gun. No revenge pooping in my bed just because I washed his dirty favorite blankie
I think he might be not angry but very scared. I wonder if it’s possible to sedate a cat for such stressful but obviously needed procedure.
@@juliastoianovska9620 It's definitely possible. My cat had to have an infected puncture wound lanced and the vet basically said he's "too wriggly" (literally! She had him by the scruff, but he was wiggling backwards so much I had to hold onto his behind!) So she had to totally sedate him, rather than just numb the area. Better to do it properly than risk the abscess turning cancerous, but total anesthesia has stresses of its own. He to stay in the vet over night, for a start, then there were the physiological stresses of going under. There's always some risk. And, it's expensive.
So I suppose it depends on how serious the health risk is and can it really not be done without sedation.
@@juliastoianovska9620 Some parts of that were scared. the pooping, certainly, some parts were a righteous fury at space invaded.
I had a border collie who was the same way if you got too close to his "junk". Since he was neutered, if you touched his back end anywhere, he immediately had to lie down and check to make sure nothing else had just been removed.

Great job! An older Ragdoll adopted me many years ago. She had a lot of mats that needed cutting out when she first visited, and a few in the early years, but now that she lets me brush her every couple of weeks that is enough to keep mats from forming.
A cat tip is to keep your eyes partially closed, and stop and slow blink at them along with petting once in a while during the grooming or whatever chore they're not enjoying. This means "Chill and relaxed" in cat body language, and it's contagious. On the other hand, staring directly at them with eyes wide open means things like "I don't like you, I challenge you, I'm preparing to fight you!"

We need a Riesling shirt now... something that says "Don't touch the back end."
We had a large Maine Coon named Grendel since she was a little monster to everyone except my husband and me. As she got older, she could no longer clean her back end, and it got to the point where I would need to shave her sanitary area periodically, which was a nightmare to do. My husband and I would suit up and prepare for battle with a towel, elbow-length rubber gloves, a bag of treats, and, of course, the clippers. The worst part of it all was the white liquid from her anal glands that would leak out during the shave. It totally reeked, and if you got it and bare skin, it was tough to wash the smell away hence the elbow-length gloves. Although it was a battle to perform, we always won the war against dingleberries.

That part of cat ownership is hard, when you have to be assertive to clean their area or give them a pill or something even as they're clearly telling you "NO. STOP. DO NOT WANT." @@ltyrell405 I was looking for a comment like this, this cat is clearly terrified, especially of the blower. Work like this absolutely needs to be done, and from what it looks like this groomer is very gentle (or tries to be, cases like this are tough). It's hard being as small as a cat, even if this guy looks pretty big as far as cats go. Trying to be ferocious and perceived as a threat is a survival instinct, the more you look like work to hunt as prey, the less likely you are to be attacked. It's something humans have learned too, a recommendation for people who are getting abducted is to be as difficult as possible and fight as hard as you can, there's always a chance your attacker will decide you're just not worth the effort.

Oh that cat was pissed. The owners should learn to brush their cat's fur daily to avoid the tangles and mattes. This cat is not used to grooming and I can understand the anger.
"Human...remove this infernal device from my face and I may treat you better than the foul apes who brought me here by taking only your spleen."
@@whatevergoesforme5129 Sometimes it isn't that easy. If that cat didn't like her touching his butt, he probably would hate a brush as much, and it could cause him pain to do so. Sometimes these things are more complicated than they appear.
@@JCArules13 I know it is not easy. I have 4 pet cats now and several stray cats I feed outside our house. I use gloves when I know I will be "attacked" by any of the cats that hate what I plan to do with them like brushing their fur, giving them meds, cleaning their wound, One stray cat hates being brushed (which he needs because he has issues with hair balls). It was so hard at first, but eventually, he was able to tolerate it. It has to start somewhere or the cat will never get used to it.
I mean I’d be mad too if someone put a bowl on my head
