K Bert is right what made The Monarchs go good was the fantastic voice of their lead singer, Mike Gibson, no matter what song The Monarchs were singing if you had your back turned from the stage you would think the original singer or group was on stage. And the main reason for that was the way the group harmonized so well together and the great falsetto voice Mike had , Mike had a 5 octave voice that was one of the best in all the history of "Rock & Roll". For those who went to the dances The Monarchs gave in the 70's when all the original members were together you know what I'm talking about. The Monarchs gave many 1000's of people in and around Lou. a night out to remember.

+sean godwin As I said in a comment 6 months ago, it's three comments above this one, that Mike in his day had a 5 octave voice. If you listen to "It's Almost Tomorrow" or "This Old Heart" you'll hear the great range in his voice. If you are of the age where The Monarchs regrouped in 1972 and you went to any of their dances you know first hand just what a great singer Mike Gibson was.

Knowing the original Monarchs it was a combination of both. They had other singer's with them in the beginning, but as you can see they where able to find a group of guys through hard work and practice harmonized an played off each other extremely well. I'm glad a young man of 18 seems to enjoy their music. As I have said before their original lead singer had a fantastic voice, Mike. Gibson. They had two records that charted on Billboards top 100 list one in '63 and one in 1964.The 1964 song "Look Homeward Angel" went to #1 in 20 Us markets. Only two of the originals are still playing but after 50 years the Band is still performing

This song has been sang by many singers but know one has every done a better job singing this song than.Mike Gibson. When the original Monarchs reformed in 1972 they sold out every performance or dance they held. Have been to their dances in the mid '70's where 6 to 800 people would attend. Mike retired from singing in 1979, the band was never the same.

this song was written by someone from Louisville, But that person was one of Pee Wee Kings best friends. A Mr. Redd Stewart. They preformed together for years, and Redd gave the song to Pee Wee because he thought that the public would receive the song better and allow it to climb the charts, which it did. The song was re-recorded by many people over the years. Thanks Redd for a great song, one of many you wrote.
