You forgot to mention something very important! 03-04 cars use a brass sonax bushing for the torque convertor. 05-06 cars had this part revised and replaced by a needle bearing pushing. This is important for anyone who wants to push the car and launch it. Those brass bushing will go. The updated needle bearing is much stronger and way less likely to fail! Happy hunting
I own a 01 E430 , I love driving this car!!! I find myself staring @ it when I walk away too. I get daily compliments on this 20 year old beast. One of the most timeless machines made
I've owned my 2006 E55 for nearly 4 years now and did not know several of these things. I am maniacal with learning about it! I'm not the AMGMeister though evidently. Great video!

I have the 2006 E55 AMG premium package but to get the most out of the car you have to upgrade a few things so I upgraded the ECU with a tune from euro charged I also rebuild my stock pulley basically beefed it up a bit for better Performance I did have a 77 mm pulley but noticed I didn’t get the performance I wanted so after talking to a buddy from BenzWorks out of Huntington Beach CA he recommended I upgraded the stock pulley instead of going bigger I’m glad I went that route I also got a euro charged heat exchanger with a updated Bosch 010 pump and now the car drives flawlessly, oh yeah I also took off the top speed limiter this car is a true beast 💪
The LongRanger I have an 05 E55 AMG and I’ve been searching around trying to find out how to unlimit the speed. A lot of videos say you have to enter engineering mode and you can do it right from the infotainment screen in the instrument cluster. But to be honest. Before you go looking to do more than 155 MPH you should make sure the car is fully serviced, you’re rims aren’t lob sided (common problem with e55 rims they bend easy) and make sure you have Z rated tires or better. Going over 155 MPH is fucking dangerous and as much as I’d love to send a video to my friends doing 180 in my E55 to show them how badass of a fucking car I have, it’s not worth it in my eyes until I fix a few problems the car has.
I just purchased an O5 last week without knowing the differences. I think I'm glad I went the route I did! Plus it helped that the P/O was the ideal type of seller you dream of buying a car from!
I LOVE the E55s It was actually the first Mercedes I ever owned and ever since then Ive had nothing but E class AMGs as my sports car. BEST sport Sedans period.
My pops was a BMW guy, grandfather was a Mercedes guy... While my e34 was at the shop a customer (also friend)let me drive his car to my house to grab lunch, my pops was getting smokes(he worked from home) and he pulled up and I found him circling it. One of the only modern Mercedes he actually liked... Now that the prices have been dropping I'm considering getting one myself. I've driven 6-7 of em and they're fantastic cars 👌
This video is GREAT. Loved the music and the volume of it, the video footage you had and the attention to detail when you discussed changes. For me the best AMG ever esp when the supercharger is whining.
one thing i just want to add, the "rest" button wasn't necessarily removed for 05, it just became dependent on which version of the climate control that particular car came with. cars that came with "climate control panel design A" (2 or 4 zone) still have the rest button. i think it depends partly on whether or not the car was originally bought in a warm climate. my 2005 spent the first 10 years of its life in florida and has no rest button, but when my dad bought a 2005 E55 it was originally owned by someone near boston and that had the rest button. on page 194 of the 2005 e class manual it goes into more detail. thanks for this video though, i mainly wanted a 2005-06 because of the 200 mph speedometer and figured it's newer which would allegedly give them more time to work out the kinks. only recently did i learn about the aux port, spare tire, and suspension / steering upgrades. love this car!
2:29 - I've never heard you so excited about something in a video haha. Love your videos man. I'm looking to buy a 2004+ E55 AMG here in the next few weeks. Your videos have helped me make the right choice!
The way that black one sits on the 63 AMG style wheels is just mega. My family has an old 06 E350 and I absolutely love it. Couldn’t imagine how great the 55’s drive. I wish they’d kept that motor over the 63 because it’s much more reliable that the M156 and sounds better imo. Plus the easy tuning abilities.
W-211 is without doubt my favorite car of all time, and I have owned a few hundred cars in my life. At present I own 8 Mercedes cars from a 1998 to 2006 My first Merc was 1998 SLK 230 which I still own, my latest 2006 S-55 AMG. My favorite all around car for style, ride, beauty and comfort is my 2005 E-500. My SLK is a fun summer car but it is a sports car were comfort and ride are not the main focus. The S-55 (slightly modified) is a fun, scary fast, rocket sled, but it too is not focused on cruising comfort and if you tend to have a heavy foot..... (who wouldn't). LOL. you better have a fuel truck following you. With all of my various models and years lined up side by side, the W-211's are the ones that draw the eye. I love road trips, and the E-500 does that best. Every day I feel the urge to just go drive the 500, if I don't have a reason, I will invent one. The S-55 draws me when I just feel like going out and terrorizing the Mustangs, Camaros, Dodges that think they are fast.
I've had a 2003 original, no-mod car for 3.5 years and it's been a wonderful car. The only things I like changed are: Having GPS, more open leg area so pedals are visible, steering easier to turn and happier, brighter colors than silver and black. Also the side of Radiator is plastic and every 7-8 years it dries up, cracks and leaks but mine only changed once. Oh, don't mean to beat on 04+ models but I've listened to 10-15 newer E55s but none sounded as smooth and roarish as my 03.
my 09/03 model year has a lot of the 2004-5 upgrades you speak of but wasn't retrofit with them. only retrofit that was done is the keyless go. I have FULL service records. I have the upgraded DIFF, and the upgraded instrument cluster from factory. These cars have a lot of frankensteins like mine I have found.
Once again, thank you so much for another informative video. Most of these differences apply here in Europe. Didn't know about the differential changes at all! Im actually still trying to turn off the Traffic Announcement completely on 2006 CLS55AMG. The cd player still pauses for TA even though ive disabled it following the manual by pressing and holding the mute button. Greetings and thanks from Ireland
Lots of great info here, thank you. IMO the W211, inside and outside, has so much soul compared to the W212 that followed. Re the E55 AMG shown at 5:50... would this car be lowered, and would you ever hear tyre contact with the wheel arches during hard cornering?
Thank you for the very detailed and informative video. Is there any information on the internet about the 2 types of superchargers (the change from 2004 to 2005)? Can't seem to find anything about this change... Is there a huge difference between the two? Does it matter if you are going to tune up the car anyways? (pulleys, headers, tunes, cooling, etc.) Keep up the great work! There is never enough E55 content on youtube...
Benjamin Drabik like I said in the video, it’s a 4.65 % difference in gear ratio. It’s not really going to be noticeable when stock but if you swap for a smaller pulley and tune the car, the difference will be a little more amplified.
I’m soon going to move to the states, and I’m already trying to hunt a w211 e55 like the one I currently own, but I’m looking for a particular option set; the all around parking sensors, and I can’t seem to find any in LA. Can anyone guide me on where to look other than edmunds and car gurus to possibly find specific specs like this?
AMGmeister. thanks for your videos, they are great. I have a 2003 Mercedes W211 AMG, the E 55 AMG ... 196,600 kilometers, apart from the airmatic suspension problems, it now has a sound in the transmission when accelerating, being automatic also when it is lowered and accelerated again, it is like a cricket at night ,,,,, what do you think it is ?? ?? in addition to having checked all the fluids and fluid leaks in the bearings ???? sorry reading is a translator;)
ATT. ALL MERC OWNERS.... Just a VERY important NOTE.... I received my new Warranty notice 2 weeks ago in mail. Mercedes Benz SHALL FIX EVERY SBC UNIT FOR FREE AT Merc DEALERSHIPS for 25 years from the year of your car. This goes for any model with SBC. My 2004 E55 hasn't had any problems yet. My Mom's E500 was completed yesterday, usually a $5000.00 job for sensors and labor. Took 5 days. They even tow it on flatbed to dealership for FREE... This will add value to your Merc. This is great news!!!! I hope this gives relief to some owners that will eventually need it replaced...
If I get a 2005 or 2006 and replace the TCM does that make the ASR button fully disable traction control? Without that is it impossible to disable traction control? Thanks!
Yes. Follow BC Stars on Facebook for updates. facebook.com/mbcabcstars/ There is a Mercedes Show every year at the end of summer in Vancouver. There is also a German car festival in June every year.
Are those cls wheels on the black E55 ? They look great on it wow ! Is the clearance ok or did they have to modify the fenderwells ? I NEED an E55 ! Lol
One day i will buy this car. Im 16 and i got 2002 2.1 diesel 150hp with just 185k kilometers (but so much cosmetic and interior modifications), but everyone needs to start one place.
Any chance you are interested in doing a video about buying a E55 without certain features and then being able to add them (sort of plug and play) to upgrade them? I am thinking of the dynamic seats or keyless go options specifically. I am asking as i am looking at an 06 without those two (and rear sunshade) and am wondering if i can upgrade or am "stuck" with what i end up buying. Thanks in advance and love the channel.
I was considering adding a Weistec tuned ECU, have you heard anything favorable about that or could it be a waste of money with minimal if any noticeable perf. gains? Thanks..
Hey man, fellow Vancouverite here. I'm wondering if you would share roughly what ICBC's basic rates are for a car such as this? Are we talking over $3k/yr?
ICBC basic rate for 2004 E55 is around $2080.00 before discounts and liability. I find that E55 is cheaper than other cars. It's a 4-door family sedan, not a 2-door sportscar meaning cheaper insurance. Insurance cost is notably lower compared to an e46 M3 BMW for example. Hope this helps!
Thank you for all of your great videos. You mention that the 05/06 models have improvements in the front steering as well as the increase in speedometer. Can these be retrofitted onto an 04 model?
In my opinion (that I know people will hate), the W210 E55 was the best. The 2002 specifically. It reeks European muscle, and they're absolute tanks because of their mechanical simplicity. They're becoming enthusiast cars at this point, though, so I could see their value going up slightly.
@amgmeister what’s the difference between 775U BRIGHT SILVER METALLIC CLEAR COAT PAINT vs 744U BRILLIANT SILVER METALLIC Or are they the same ? Thank you guys !!!
Id like to add. 2005 onwards cruise control was not possible when ESP is switched OFF. SBC HOLD also not possible when esp is OFF. SBC S was also removed on 2005 onwards models. 2005 onwards used active cruise control, brakes are used to maintain speed when going down hills etc while pre 2005 used engine braking which results in going past the set speed limit when the road has a steep decline. 2005 onwards experienced creaking noises from steering track mounts and or front cross member.
That's a tough choice because they are both great cars. If you really want a manual transmission, I'd get the Z06. If you want more comfort and prestige, get the E55.
Yeah plus i live in florida so id like to have a convertible but the corvette is 20000 compared to like 8000 for the e55 plus the interior is miles better in the merc compared to corvette which is the main reason why i dont like gm
@@AMGmeister i just found out that the 1st gen cadillac cts-v has the same engine as the vette but the cadillac only comes as a manuel so i think id choose the cadillac over the amg cause of the manuel
Hey man, nice vid!! I own an 06 E55 and was wondering what wheels does the black one parked next to you have. The 5 spoke ones with the unique center cap....I currently have a set of Vossen 19's on mine now but would much rather have those the black E55 has. Thanks
I didn’t know the COMAND screen was unavailable in the 03’s. I just assumed it was a rare option. Though I have seen some with the small COMAND and navigation, it just doesn’t have a map display.
I really want one and I have my eyes on a late 2005 E55 with 85.000 km. But I’m not sure if i should pull the trigger because I’m really scared that I won’t be able to sell it again because nobody wants these cars here in Germany because insurance is crazy expensive. Plus I’m worried about the SBC and airmatic. But on the other hand I work at Brabus so I could repair the car quite “inexpensive”...
Love your videos. Stuck between. E55 AMG, CLS55 AMD and S55 AMG. Love the back seat set up in the CLS55 but not the headlights. Like the S55 AMG. It seems to have more space and more features. I'm a big car kind of guy but will not be sitting in the back seat so... Honestly the E55 headlights are just so attractive and to me screams Mercedes.. Errr. So many choices. Wish you had a review upon the S55 AMG.
Make a video on 600/65 model cars!!! More people need to know even though I’d rather not have them know about those cars since I own them and love them 😁😜😋🔥
is 10k a reasonable amount to get a 2003 e55 amg that's not in bad condition and also with under 120 thousand miles? trying to do as much research as possible.

now I wonder if the later e55 have the larger 80mm SC snout - throttle body w the 580? or was that just with the SL55.
BMWhips only the SL55 has the larger throttle body.
Timeless modell love it
Always informative, wish I could get one as in yesterday...eish madoda!
Wow so many W211 in vancouver, is there like a local MB or W211 club? for events, socials or show and shines?
Yes. Follow BC Stars on Facebook for updates. facebook.com/mbcabcstars/ There is a Mercedes Show every year at the end of summer in Vancouver. There is also a German car festival in June every year.
Great informative video my brother!🐟
Should I buy this car as a daily driver? I have a hawk eye STI and a built cobra. Love how this looks 😍
2020 and this car is a beast! All day mercedes!
Video was taken at Vancouver BC, I was wondering is there a w211 club here? I live in White Rock.
There is a Mercedes club, all models here. bcstars.mbca.org.
Also a facebook page. facebook.com/groups/998765956957258/
Nicely done w211amg 55..for lifetime.
Are those cls wheels on the black E55 ? They look great on it wow ! Is the clearance ok or did they have to modify the fenderwells ? I NEED an E55 ! Lol
Please can you do a video on best year CLS550. I am looking at years 2006 to 2012 because these years fall inside my budget. Thanks!
One day i will buy this car. Im 16 and i got 2002 2.1 diesel 150hp with just 185k kilometers (but so much cosmetic and interior modifications), but everyone needs to start one place.
Great video there mate.
I wonder if the different blower gearing equates to different engine output or just smoother operation? They were all rated at 516 ft.lbs. Right?
Tony Chavez All were rated at 516tq but the better gearing in the later cars makes a bit more power for sure.
I was considering adding a Weistec tuned ECU, have you heard anything favorable about that or could it be a waste of money with minimal if any noticeable perf. gains? Thanks..
very nice!! will it fit on E63 w211? where did you get this from!!!???
Hey man, fellow Vancouverite here. I'm wondering if you would share roughly what ICBC's basic rates are for a car such as this? Are we talking over $3k/yr?
ICBC basic rate for 2004 E55 is around $2080.00 before discounts and liability. I find that E55 is cheaper than other cars. It's a 4-door family sedan, not a 2-door sportscar meaning cheaper insurance. Insurance cost is notably lower compared to an e46 M3 BMW for example. Hope this helps!
Thanks, I appreciate it! Not nearly as much as I thought.
great video
also the footage used was amazing
What about the 2000 E55 AMG W210???
I just bought a one owner clean Car-fax and all service at Mercedes Dealer.
Thank you for all of your great videos. You mention that the 05/06 models have improvements in the front steering as well as the increase in speedometer. Can these be retrofitted onto an 04 model?
I'm not sure about swapping the newer mph speedo. However, I believe some have swapped the steering rack from the newer cars.
The way u talk about AMG. now i wana buy one but which year do i go for . Or which year is your favorite and why
In my opinion (that I know people will hate), the W210 E55 was the best. The 2002 specifically. It reeks European muscle, and they're absolute tanks because of their mechanical simplicity. They're becoming enthusiast cars at this point, though, so I could see their value going up slightly.
Another excellent vid
I know you guys seen y’all at the MBC show n shine at lonsdale quay...I got the silver bluish 06 55 amg.
ربي يحقق هالحلم 🤲🏻❤️
what wheels are on the black one? I can’t seem to find concave CL63 wheels anywhere
The wheels are from a 2006 CLS 55 AMG.
can you do a CL one?
Of the 4 doors why would you choose which? CLS or S or E
Can i put a E55 engine in my E350? Of so what do i have to change to do so
@amgmeister what’s the difference between 775U BRIGHT SILVER METALLIC CLEAR COAT PAINT
vs
744U BRILLIANT SILVER METALLIC
Or are they the same ?
Thank you guys !!!
Hey, 775 (Iridium Silver) replaced 744 (Brilliant Silver) around 2005. They look slightly different.
AMGmeister ok appreciate the help!!! Keep the great videos coming. I like how you give exact specs and are so precise!!
The E looks great keep it up!!
What about 09? I'm thinking of buying one and no one says much about that year E55
2005 onwards experienced creaking noises from steering track mounts and or front cross member.
im in between this car and an 04 c5 corvette z06 which one should i get?
Thanks
Travis Oberlies Thanks man. The black e55 has wheels from a 2006 CLS 55.
I didn’t know the COMAND screen was unavailable in the 03’s. I just assumed it was a rare option. Though I have seen some with the small COMAND and navigation, it just doesn’t have a map display.
Witch model year is the best E55? Up to 2001, (W210), like my 98😉
i'm in love with that car..
But on the other hand I work at Brabus so I could repair the car quite “inexpensive”...
hey do you need to turn the nozzle sideways when refilling the gas tank for these ?
Love your videos. Stuck between. E55 AMG, CLS55 AMD and S55 AMG. Love the back seat set up in the CLS55 but not the headlights. Like the S55 AMG. It seems to have more space and more features. I'm a big car kind of guy but will not be sitting in the back seat so... Honestly the E55 headlights are just so attractive and to me screams Mercedes.. Errr. So many choices. Wish you had a review upon the S55 AMG.
Can you do a what year is best for the e63 w211
Make a video on 600/65 model cars!!! More people need to know even though I’d rather not have them know about those cars since I own them and love them 😁😜😋🔥
Aladdin , you're right. i had an '05 CL65. Currently driving an '05 SL600.
These cars make something exhilerating possible every time you drive.
is 10k a reasonable amount to get a 2003 e55 amg that's not in bad condition and also with under 120 thousand miles? trying to do as much research as possible.
Very good deal
