I hope Brother Perry, and every IFB member or follower who agree with his remarks will take the time to listen to what “Calvinism” actually teaches. Below are few playlists I would heartily recommend to your listening, and encourage you to take the time to understand what Reformed Theology teaches about the Gospel before you make such outrageous statements: Gospel clarity with Pastor Patrick Hines ua-cam.com/play/PLJFEiE4GKkvBSAqgkkLgbkFnvOXjmIQeV.html Gospel clarity with Theocast ua-cam.com/play/PLJFEiE4GKkvAPJOcWf4j1V4XbRr0tu_bX.html May God bless you, keep you, and guide you in your walk with Him.
A little background. Pastor Perry was once associated with the New IFB and Steven Anderson. Anderson was known for his hatred of Calvinism, so it caused no small stir in the New IFB when he started hanging out with a couple of Reformed Baptist pastors back in 2019 (over the Textus Receptus Only issue, which is basically identical to King James Only position). He made a documentary about modern pronunciation of Koine Greek, rather than using the Erasmian pronunciation, to prove that the Greek New Testament is understandable to modern Greek speakers. To do that, Anderson and a Reformed Baptist pastor went to Cyprus to do soulwinning. What’s fascinating about this is that here you had clear evidence that “Calvinists” clearly are saved and in fact do soulwinning - something the IFB constantly accuse “Calvinists” of not believing in, as well as that “Calvinism” promotes works salvation. Instead of taking a step back and re-examining their conclusions about “Calvinism” and “Calvinists” (which I hoped at the time this collaboration between Anderson and Reformed Baptist pastors would result in), these IFB pastors doubled down and broke fellowship with Anderson and the New IFB over this. And as you can see from this video, this irrational (and it is irrational) hatred toward “Calvinism” persists to this day. How blinded by your prejudices and hate do you have to be to refuse to accept what is right in front of your eyes - a soulwinning Calvinist? It is astonishing. However, I do believe Pastor Perry is a saved Brother in Christ, but one who is grossly ignorant of the subject of Reformed theology, going from misrepresentation of it he heard from others, and blinded by this anti-Calvinist tradition of the IFB. I would not call Pastor Perry unsaved, and I would advise others here not to make that assumption either. These people already believe “Calvinists” are not saved, so returning the favor is not helpful if we want to convince them otherwise.
Interesting mindset there. He hates Calvinism more than JW because Calvinism sneaks into IFB churches better. That’s not how we measure which ought to be more hated even if Calvinism is false. The one that preaches a damnable heresy should take precedence. I’m more of a Lutheran myself so I don’t believe in Calvinism. But I would 100% prefer someone to be a Calvinist than a Jehovah’s Witness. There is nothing damnable from Calvinism; JW is damnable.
