“I reject Calvinists and I don’t accept them as brothers” – Pastor Tommy McMurtry | IFB
Such irrational hatred that Independent Fundamentalist Baptists express toward Reformed theology truly amazes me and saddens me. While this is no excuse, I do recognize it is founded only on gross ignorance of “Calvinism”. But of all people, pastors should know better. To call “Calvinists” “natural brute beasts” (2 Pe 2:12, KJV), calling them dead and unable to understand the Scripture (i.e. unsaved), and to reject the history of God building His Church is utterly irrational and tells you a lot about this type of Independent Fundamentalist Baptists. There are honorable exceptions, of course.
This might be surprising to my IFB brothers and sisters, but us “Calvinists” believe that we are only by God’s alone justified on the Day of judgment by Christ’s righteousness alone imputed to us by faith alone, apart from any works, so that we are eternally secure in Christ from the moment we repent and believe the Gospel, and cannot lose our salvation because all our sins were imputed to Christ on the cross, where He died in our place, taking our punishment of death, so that there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ. And we are to preach that message to every man, woman and child. Notice how I used only biblical words to describe the Gospel (in this same sermon Pastor McMurtry strongly disparaged using theological terms not found in the King James Bible).
I personally do like Pastor McMurtry. He seems like a good man, faithful Christian, and I appreciate his strong stance against the New IFB in general and Steven Anderson in particular. But be not falsely assured; he displays the same ignorance of and vitriol toward “Calvinism” and non-KJVonly Christians - even worse than Anderson who is more educated on the subject. His mockery of things he plainly doesn’t understand, and condemning “Calvinists” who believe they are justified the same way Pastor McMurtry believes as unsaved, and calling them “natural brute beasts” is irrational. His usual demeaning, mocking and dismissive tone toward “Calvinists” he displays in sermons and podcasts is very off-putting, and gives out an impression of a man who cannot be taken seriously. I get it, it’s your standard IFB preacher rhetoric that gets the people excited and shouting “Hayman!”, but is utterly void of meaningful substance. And honestly, it disappoints me more than anything.
I understand, since I was once an Independent Fundamentalist Baptist who hated “Calvinism”. But it was in grave ignorance, based on misrepresentations thereof by IFB pastors - that “Calvinists” believe in works salvation and don’t evangelize. Granted, the more popular “Calvinists” today, such as John MacArthur and Paul Washer, promote a form of “Calvinism” known as Lordship Salvation, which I personally disagree with, because I believe it muddles the clarity of the Gospel, causing many of Christ’s sheep to doubt their salvation, orienting them away from Christ’s finished work and toward themselves and their works. And there are “Calvinists”, such as John Piper and Douglas Wilson, who do indeed preach a false gospel, and should rightly and properly be exposed.
I hope Brother McMurtry, and every IFB member or follower who agrees with his remarks will take the time to listen to what “Calvinism” actually teaches and accurately represent it in the future. You can still disagree with “Calvinistic” understanding of predestination and election unto salvation, just don’t claim “Calvinists” are unsaved, or that they don’t evangelize. Sola Scriptura vs. Roman Catholic Authority Claim

How do Roman Catholics come to believe and make the decision to embrace the Roman Catholic Church's authority claims as the only true Church on Earth? How did they do that apart from private interpretation of Scripture, history, and tradition? Impossible. This is how I got saved he just came and said come

I LOVE PASTOR ANDERSON!
Amen
My sister says the thief was an exception. The thief went to Abrahams bosom not heaven until Jesus actually died. She says that nobody else goes to heaven unless they get water baptized and receive the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues. She says ONLY the water baptized go to heaven and only after they receive the Holy Spirit and the evidence of the Holy Spirit in you is speaking in tongues. Everyone else is not saved.
Which books are the ones we should get from him again?
Idol worship to a book that isn't even perfect... May the Lord rebuke him and repent before it's too late.
Members of THE ALEXANDRIAN CULT” can be spotted easily by the fact that they repeat in their generation three or more of the following lies. 1. The original Greek text says … . 2. THE Greek text says … . 3. The BEST manuscripts say … . 4. Second Timothy 3:16 applies only to the “original manuscripts.” 5. Erasmus’ Greek text is a Roman Catholic Greek text. 6. Westcott and Hort were brilliant Biblical scholars.
We've been exposed! Oh no😯
@File001 so you were lying 😮
Sorry, but the more I learn about Calvinism the more I am against it. I do think some are saved but I won't defend their salvation. Calvinists are such man worshippers.
It's so good, the essence, simplicity and wonder of the gospel
I think the biggest issue they make is that they directly assume every calvinist to be a lordshipper… Is this a new video or is it an old one? His recent debate with keith foskey was interesting to watch.
Yep that's it. Whenever they preach against Calvinism they provide quotes from popular preachers like John MacArthur, Paul Washer, John Piper, and they assume that every Calvinist believes exactly like them. But they do assume a lot, that's the problem. It's from last year: "Brute Beasts and Their Feigned Words" ua-cam.com/video/IuYzgcqICN4/v-deo.html I've seen the debate when it came out, it was interesting. From what I remember, I could see where both sides were coming from, and understand the concerns they had of the opposing side - maybe because I've been on both sides... There was also one with Pastor Jeff Dollar on eternal security. And McMurtry was also on Your Calvinist podcast, with other anti-Calvinists, and I thought it went well, and was pleasantly surprised by the positive tone of it all. I don't know if McMurtry has softened up after these interactions with Calvinistst, but somehow I doubt it.
@ It seems to me, that he has softened a bit. At least he seems to allow for nuance. In the debate between Dollar and McMurtry, I actually agreed more with McMurtry as far as I remember.
You might want to read his comment on this video. He is doubling down, sadly... Quote: "Sorry, but the more I learn about Calvinism the more I am against it. I do think some are saved but I won't defend their salvation. Calvinists are such man worshippers."
A little background. Pastor Perry was once associated with the New IFB and Steven Anderson. Anderson was known for his hatred of Calvinism, so it caused no small stir in the New IFB when he started hanging out with a couple of Reformed Baptist pastors back in 2019 (over the Textus Receptus Only issue, which is basically identical to King James Only position). He made a documentary about modern pronunciation of Koine Greek, rather than using the Erasmian pronunciation, to prove that the Greek New Testament is understandable to modern Greek speakers. To do that, Anderson and a Reformed Baptist pastor went to Cyprus to do soulwinning. What’s fascinating about this is that here you had clear evidence that “Calvinists” clearly are saved and in fact do soulwinning - something the IFB constantly accuse “Calvinists” of not believing in, as well as that “Calvinism” promotes works salvation. Instead of taking a step back and re-examining their conclusions about “Calvinism” and “Calvinists” (which I hoped at the time this collaboration between Anderson and Reformed Baptist pastors would result in), these IFB pastors doubled down and broke fellowship with Anderson and the New IFB over this. And as you can see from this video, this irrational (and it is irrational) hatred toward “Calvinism” persists to this day. How blinded by your prejudices and hate do you have to be to refuse to accept what is right in front of your eyes - a soulwinning Calvinist? It is astonishing. However, I do believe Pastor Perry is a saved Brother in Christ, but one who is grossly ignorant of the subject of Reformed theology, going from misrepresentation of it he heard from others, and blinded by this anti-Calvinist tradition of the IFB. I would not call Pastor Perry unsaved, and I would advise others here not to make that assumption either. These people already believe “Calvinists” are not saved, so returning the favor is not helpful if we want to convince them otherwise.
When you call people who are solid, Bible believing Christians worse than cult members - You are a child of Satan!
I would love to debate this person on the doctrine of calvinism
Interesting mindset there. He hates Calvinism more than JW because Calvinism sneaks into IFB churches better. That’s not how we measure which ought to be more hated even if Calvinism is false. The one that preaches a damnable heresy should take precedence. I’m more of a Lutheran myself so I don’t believe in Calvinism. But I would 100% prefer someone to be a Calvinist than a Jehovah’s Witness. There is nothing damnable from Calvinism; JW is damnable.
this man is not even saved and his arrogance has made him ignorant and hateful

So you take the word of a tranny demon worshiper over the word of a pastor? Ok sure whatever
I hope that people would realize that its The Holy Spirit leading us to truth. One should be able to open and read thru any reliable translation. When l was first saved in February of 2019, l would have 4 different translations open to help me understand the meaning of certain verses. What a Blessing to not be falsely tied down because of a few Pastors misunderstanding. God Bless....🙏
Amen. It is a blessing to have multiple reliable translations and have the liberty to use them. When I was first saved in Spring of 2015, having came across the New IFB, I got into King James Onlyism, so I know all the arguments for it. But in 2019, having heard the other side, I realized that King James Onlyism does not hold water, so I started reading different translations without fear of being called unsaved. I got my first ESV at the end of 2019, and the 1995 NASB shortly thereafter, and now the LSB - when I read an English translation. Of course, I'm not even a native English speaker and live in Europe, so this whole King James Only thing should not even be an issue for me anyway, but sadly, it's present even in foreign countries. And it's unreal to hear it. If I may ask, how come you have "KJV" in your channel name? Usually only King James Onlyists have it (or 1611).
Amen We are saved by GOD and him Alone. Jesus is GOD and I thank him for all he does for me. I love him so much.
Thank you Br. White.
You don't wake up from nowhere and have this revelation. It just take some serious personal fellowship with the man on the middle cross to reveal it to you🥺

Pastor Anderson is a wife beater and abuser of children. I believe he hates homosexuals because he is afraid of his homosexual feelings. Stop harassing your family and all of God's children.
thanks for this
This is so great I really love his honesty Thank you for sharing
HEYMAN!!!!!!!!
Stop speaking nonsense and go read church history. This is why it becomes important. The chuech fathers have always made thw analogy that the blessed mother is the ark of the new covenent. Go look up what that is.
Sir, James White is a professor of Church history. He knows all about what that is, and how erroneous it is. The Scripture never even implies it, let alone directly teaches it. None of the apostles made that analogy, and neither did Jesus. If this is so important, then surely Scripture would point to such a doctrine with sufficient clarity. But it doesn't, so it isn't. Here's a playlist of Dr. White's Church history series which I would recommend you listen to: ua-cam.com/play/PLJFEiE4GKkvC-Wd0ABjmz_2o_T3gTTINO.html
Thank you! Hebrews is my favorite epistle. I know it's often overlooked and, perhaps, this series will change that.
Gotta love the old stick necks sitting behind him, acting like they’re too good to laugh in church. Pharisees. Recognize one of God’s great preachers while he’s in front of you! This is an incredible word.
I love that Man on the Middle Cross
