Hi Stefan, I’ve just discovered your channel. Great to see an Australian pilot in a Cirrus publishing on UA-cam! Look forward to seeing more of your work, thank you.
As always Stef great Video. Hope you, Jackie & your daughter had a great Christmas? Looking forward to seeing more in 2018. I hope the fly said thank you, would have been the quickest flight to Moorabbin it ever had done.
Great video Stef. Ground shots were very interesting! As you say, it was a busy time. Thanks for the shout you gave out for me in your Best Pilot Channels video, it did make a big difference and highlights what we can all do for each other and what a wealth of material there is out there for aviation enthusiasts.
Thanks Tim, I'm excited to see your channel grow in 2018, hope I could help get some more aviation lovers over to your videos too. Looking forward to following your adventures in the New Year.
Another great video Stephan. I assume 17L was closed - the left circuit to 17R confused me a bit. Just returned from my Canberra to Perth and return flight in the Glasair - posted a couple of videos on my channel. Great trip across and back - you got to take a burn in the Glasair next time I'm in Moorabbin. Cheers, Jim.
Hey sactu1, yes 17L was closed so all traffic was using 17R when I arrived. 17R was operating with a left hand circuit, therefore the overfly join instruction. I'll check out your channel and your trip videos for sure, hope you had a great trip. Cheers, Stef 👍
Interesting. Those calls of "unconfirmed" altitudes would also make me a bit weary, as they seemed they did for you too. I just read that FL starts at 10K feet in Australia. In Germany, it's at 5000'. I wonder why there is that difference.
ATC use a pilot-reported altitude to confirm the radar-derived transponder level information is within tolerances (+/- 200FT). If a VFR aircraft has not been positively identified, but is obsered as relevant traffic OCTA, then UNVERIFIED is added to the level advice to indicate that the target may not actually be above/below etc.
Taking notes must be a problem is you are left handed, as I am... in that case could one sit in the right seat, so one could you both hands...otherwise if I was sitting in the left seat if I was flying [regrettably I don't...bummer!], I would have to let go of the stick to make notes... what would one do?
Thanks Robert, are you learning to become a pilot? Hopefully one day you can get up there and do some flights like this yourself. Thanks for watching, Stef 👍
It's an amazing country to fly over. We're blessed with such variety - cities to green fields to rugged coastlines to barren red desert. It's awesome, I'm excited to see loads more of it in 2018. Thanks for watching, Stef 👍
Thanks Kustav, yes probably one of the busiest days I've seen down there for a long time with the other runway being closed. I'd say most of the time you end up with a visual approach into Moorabbin when it's not IMC. That's mainly due to traffic. So you'll get to around 3 miles to run then break off the Instrument approach and come in visual. I sometimes fly in via the runway 35 RNAV for practise, but often just approach on a visual descent like I did in this video. Depends on workload, what I've planned and the weather/traffic conditions.
Nice video! When departing places like Warrnambool, I normally make an airborne call: "Melb Centre, XXX is airborne Warrnambool to YMMB, climbing 5000 passing 1200, request traffic". If identified, no departure call required and off I go. Rare to find people record IFR calls in Australia on UA-cam. Love your work! Q: 1) Any reason you planned 5000? It did look smooth over the inversion... 2) any reason to request decent so early? looking at vid perhaps you were 10miles to YMMB.
Hey Peter, 1) 5000' - Easterly so odd levels, grid LSALT was something like 3700 for the leg (in case I needed to divert off track for any reason), and I didn't need to go any higher for a relatively short leg so opted for 5000. 2) Descent - I was descending from 5000 to 1500. I calculate at 500 feet per minute (7 mins) and add two extra minutes for contingency. This meant top of descent was 7+2=9 minutes from Bay West. I had a good tailwind and was doing around 145/150 Kts ground speed so it worked out just after Avalon on that day. Gotta love the Cirrus :) Hope that helps, cheers, Stef 👍
Hey Jake, I have full landing sequences in some of the other videos on this channel. Sometimes I like to vary it a bit though, this one wasn't all that exciting so I skipped the less entertaining bits. Have a browse through some other videos on here, you can find landings in a lot of those. Thanks for checking out the video, Stef 👍
Hello Ulf, thanks for tuning in from Norway. Beautiful (and very advanced) country, I've always wanted to visit there. I'll be sure to checkout your channel, love seeing videos from other Cirrus pilots. Thanks mate, Stef 👍

Very nice flight, lots of traffic alerts and some great views. TDS is serving you well.
Thanks Spiro. Love that plane.

I know it's kinda off topic but do anyone know a good site to stream newly released tv shows online?
@Coleman Dylan flixportal :D
@Apollo Corbin thanks, I went there and it seems like a nice service =) I really appreciate it!!
@Coleman Dylan glad I could help :)
Really enjoyed this video Stef. Great shots of Mt Noorat at 2:40 Very close to where I was born. Thanks!
Thanks Tony, Mount Noorat must be volcanic in origin right? Looks like it from the air.
Definitely volcanic. Lakes & Craters country down in south western Victoria. You would have seen plenty of them
Quote of the day: "There are flies everywhere in this cock pit".
Hmmmmm. Reminds me of someone I went to school with.
Another quality video. Thank you.
Thanks Brett, glad you enjoyed it mate. Cheers, Stef 👍

New to the channel Stefan and really enjoying your videos. Cheers.
Hey Leo. Welcome to the channel, thanks for subscribing, Stef 👍
Awesome once again. I saw the plane I fly parked by the tower 😂😀 red tail Keep up the good Work
Thanks CA101, I'll wave next time I see your plane! 👋
Stefan Drury hahha. Sounds good

Skooppa Pretty sure it comes down to terrain. FLs have to start above the highest ground.
I need to correct myself. FL starts at 10k in Germany too. It's setting the altitude indicator to standard pressure that starts at 5k feet.

Nice to see a bit of CTA activity
Thanks jiefuster 👍
Thanks mate.
Thanks for watching Dan 👍
Another great vid wish I could fly like that
Thanks Robert, are you learning to become a pilot? Hopefully one day you can get up there and do some flights like this yourself. Thanks for watching, Stef 👍
You could if you had autopilot 😘
My friend is in Sydney on vacation..make a video showing off the National train system😨☺He'd like to see it from the air
YO! Great vid, I really want to fly in Australia too, it just looks so different and cool!

Amazing video
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it 👍
new to the channel, enjoy it, good stuff
Hey Khalfi, welcome to the channel. Thanks for subscribing, Stef 👍
Awesome Video! Nice editing :)
Thanks Tuxiq, really appreciate that 👍
Another great vid, it looked pretty busy. How often would you say you do a visual approach compared to an instrument approach when flying IFR to YMMB?

So if you're doing left circuits to land on a right hand runway the left hand runway *has* to be closed, right?
Love the music.. :)
It's awesome hey, check out G-Wiz here: soundcloud.com/gwizdb/sets/vlog-music-by-g-wiz
Almost though it was me in VH-MFS haha, what day was the flight?
Hey Lachlan, looking back I think this was December 18th. Was that you in MFS?
Oh no not the 18th, I was the 10th.
What video editor do you use?
Hey Harris, I use Final Cut Pro X.
cool, nice videos. I’m thinking of starting a channel like your in a years time
Nice!
Thanks Yoshi! 👍
RIP flying friends
YOU HAVE SO MUCH TO TEACH...YOUR VIDEOS SHOULD BE FULL OF TIPS AND TEACHING POINTS...I WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU KNOW...SO LET'S HAVE IT! THANKS!
You skipped the landing, one of the most crucial parts of flight
Hey Jake, I have full landing sequences in some of the other videos on this channel. I think you left yourself in the plane
Haha. Someone.... anyone there... heeeelllppppp!
