Great video Stefan. Really loved this vid, the added graphics and sayings ‘ffisty’ will come in really handy for my flight simming. Keep they great content coming.
Thanks for watching and glad you found that useful. Yes even with the electronic checklists in the Cirrus which I use, I still do a manual FFISTY check on line up just to be sure. Old habits die hard.
Great vid - I love how you included all the calls and procedure. I will definitely get back to the vid before I fly to Moorabbin. Can you do a vid on different procedures that can be expected there? Typical entry points, calls, some specific procedures that tower gives and are not common anywhere else, usual runways used for arrival/departures and circuits etc.
Love it Stef. Thank you. I am just about to embark on getting familiar with YCFS Class D and this video was a massive help for me to practice my radio calls. Really appreciate all you do for the flying community mate. Stay well :)
Nice!! Thanks for posting this, Stef. I got my RPL after landing on 31L in interesting conditions a couple of weeks back (now onto navs) and can fully appreciate why you asked for a wind check!
Thanks Cameron. Huge congratulations on getting your RPL that's awesome! Yeah always ask for a windcheck if you're not sure or just want to get confirmation. I don't always do it but when I had 30Kts behind me on the downwind/base turn I thought I should check on final!
I've had a 5kt headwind on take-off become a +20kt crosswind before 300ft (to the surprise of both me and my instructor!) so it really does pay to be careful whilst in the circuit at YMMB. Expect anything and you won't be surprised when it happens! :-)
"It's as windy as all hell!" - perfect radio call in a CTAF, call it a PIREP ;-) (Yes, I know it wasn't a call... but it should've been!) Love these style of videos, especially as an RPC who intends to one day land at these weird airports with people who talk to you and not just at country bumpkin airports like YLIL!
Awesome, it’s a great view of the city and bay flying around there. Have a great flight, and remember to check your VFR levels East / Westbound on your VTC!
I am just looking at Moorabbin approaches and found your nice simple video thanks, Stefan. Just wondering what the tower means when they say 'Roll-through'? I will be landing there soon so hope you can enlighten me. Thanks, Nigel
Nice flying Stefan . Do you really ever get to enjoy the views or is that only possible when a passenger . How did you find Moorabbin . The whole airports & taxi ways seems to be crazy . Only a sim flyer here but always get bloody lost taxing out to runways all the time . Is it as bad in real life . Only live down the road from it & hear the guys flying ever day . Think I might be catching the flying bug .
Hey Rob, yes you need prior permission which I got through the organisation I went out to meet. If you check ERSA for YMPC you can contact the aerodrome operator and request permission. You then need to fill in a form and get prior approval, so plan ahead and ask the aerodrome if you have any questions. They were very helpful to me.
It's a CASA approved mount, screwed into the wing. I'm thinking of making a video on the installation and approval process, a few viewers have asked about it so I think that could be useful.
Stefan Drury yeah a short video on the approval would be interesting. Did a lame have to do it? Also.....Assuming it’s a metal mount, did you feel dirty adding it to that gorgeous carbon wing?
Stef - what do you use for voice recording in your vids. Are they direct into camera or a digital voice recorder? Good vid once again. When will you become an instructor. The style suits the vocation. Best part of flying I find is parting the knowledge to new pilots
Hey, thank you. I’m recording via a lavalier mic in my headset into a digital audio recorder. I’ve found that gives me the best quality rather than direct into a GoPro. I’ll do an update video on that soon.
What is meant by "roll through"? Stefan, I am about to start my CTA training in about 2 weeks time (depending on weather as we all know haha)... Have you got any tips for how to get your head around it as quick as possible?
The "roll through" means I can keep the speed up after landing and roll the aircraft through to the end of the runway. Normally you'd try and exit as soon as possible to help aircraft behind you. But on runway 31 this can mean you have to exit then get a taxi clearance to cross other runways. So ATC were being kind to me here and giving me the roll through, meaning I could trundle down to the end and exit without having to cross any other runways (thanks Tower!). Re your training, when talking to ATC in CTA all I'd say is practise your radio call before you make them, then deliver it confidently in one go on the radio. A session on the ground with an instructor going through some pretend radio calls is also good, so you can hear what might come back from ATC. Prepare what you're going to say first, then have an idea of what's going to be said back to you, that's most of the hard work already done. Remember every call is basically "Who Am I? Where Am I? And What Am I Doing or What Do I Want?". Hope that helps, best of luck.
Don't want to be rude, but why do you ask for wind check on final if you have a garmin? Was it just to sound cool? I mean if so that's totally ok. :-p but just need to know you know...
Haha, erm no it wasn't to sound cool! It was a very windy day when I recorded this video, and I had a strong tailwind on my base turn. And whilst the Primary Flight Display I use does have a wind vector reading on it, the winds are often different close to the ground compared to say 500' above when you're making your turn to final. So even though I could see the windsock, AND I had a rough idea from my PFD, because I knew the traffic pattern was quiet I thought I may as well ask ATC who have the most accurate wind information available. Cheers, stef
Hello, at the risk of looking at your disclaimer you don't want to give pilot instruction, what do you think of the Rich of Seattle? Do you find him insane or simply a disorganized pilot in a wrong plane?
Great video Stefan. Really loved this vid, the added graphics and sayings ‘ffisty’ will come in really handy for my flight simming. Keep they great content coming.

More videos like this please Stef!
Hi Stef, I enjoyed your presentations. I’ll be flying from Moorabbin to WA soon, your presentations is what I was looking for. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Bernie, glad it was useful
Great video! Always looking forward to them 😁
Thanks CA101.
Awesome! I’m going solo on Tuesday!! Massive like;)
That's awesome Inflight Aviation - best of luck with your solo.
Good luck!
Inflight Aviation Goodluck! I went solo about a month ago... it’s the best feeling ever!
Thank you very much!
Thank you for sharing your video with us! I am now sightseeing in Australia without leaving ZRH!
Love the video, beautiful footage.
Enjoyed listing to the radio calls, nice to know some things in the audio while watching a video.
Thank you, glad you found that useful. Cheers, stef 👍

Great work Stefan. Love all that you do. ☺️
perfect timing to find this im doing it on Monday hahah thanks mate
nice squeeler on landing! ;) . I'll be going via coastal route during a nav soon, so good to hear the calls
Awesome, it’s a great view of the city and bay flying around there. Have a great flight, and remember to check your VFR levels East / Westbound on your VTC!
thanks mate. looking forward to it. and yep right on top of my hemisphericals ;)

I see my old suburbs from here! Awesome I recognise everything
Cool, must've been fun living around there if you like flying ✈️👍
Great video as always Stef and over 15k subscribers, well done!
Thanks Tim, I really appreciate that. Hope you're well mate.
Played this back at 75% speed -> great for learning ATC :)
Amazing video as always
Thanks Luke.
I was waiting to see you do some video like this I like it
Good video.
Stef, you went over 15k Subs... Congratulations...
I know right? I'm honestly amazed and very humbled by the support.
Nice video Stefan!
Thanks Sense 😀
Nearly all of my flying has been out of point cook. Hopefully will be going solo there in September!
It's a great airport to fly in/out of, nice wide runways which help with all that crosswind you get there!
Yeah, wonder who has flown there oh wait both of us 😂
Stefan Drury Oh yeah that is so true
very cool! are they c130's at point cook?
Nice one Stef, Cheers from FAPE
Thanks for watching Bentz.

The term roll through was used. I am not familiar with that one. What does it specifically mean?
Hi Stefan. Nice video ;) Let me know when you are around YSBK.
Thanks Jaf, I did a lot of my old training in YSBK so would love to head back there one day. Probably after my big trip in a couple of weeks though.
Stefan Drury will look forward to see you mate.
Thank you for this
Thanks Brent, hope you found that useful.
Great vlog... especially for us YMEN based flyers. Did you have to ask for permission to land at Point Cook... if so, what was involved?
Hey Rob, yes you need prior permission which I got through the organisation I went out to meet. If you check ERSA for YMPC you can contact the aerodrome operator and request permission. You then need to fill in a form and get prior approval, so plan ahead and ask the aerodrome if you have any questions. They were very helpful to me.
Hey Stefan is there any written abbreviations or formats to use when writing a atis that you like to use?
Liking the wing mounted camera. Did you install a mount on the cirrus or are you using a suction mount?
It's a CASA approved mount, screwed into the wing. I'm thinking of making a video on the installation and approval process, a few viewers have asked about it so I think that could be useful.

"...meat bombs..." LOL! That's a new one for me!
Haha, I always think that when I see the little icon on the maps!
Nice crab on final.
Thanks, windy day! 🦀

Can the US FAA Private Pilot License work in your country?
www.casa.gov.au/standard-page/converting-overseas-licences
Click on 'Obtain a Certificate of Validation'.
You fly over or very close to my old school
The very first plane I flew in my first flying lesson has a call at the 8 minute mark!!
I love hearing planes you recognise on the radio!
no sound from atc?
Its in there.
I am a student at Parafield. We dont do a downwind call unless doing circuits. Is it standard to do a downwind call at Moorabin when inbound?
I can't speak for Moorabbin but it is at Bankstown.
So what is a class d airport??
Nice crabbing!
Such a windy day! 🦀
