Beautiful, beautiful work. I'm guessin you keep the sides & bottom about a 1/4" thick?

Good interesting video. But what do beginners need to know?
Will any clay one can dig be good? There's red clay in some places, grey clay in coastal areas, then there's certain types of clay, so how is clay processed? I'm guessing it'd need to be cleaned, washed of impurities???

Thanks for the demo. I sure wish the video had been framed so we could see your fingers!

This is cool! When shaping the crock, I wonder how one knows how thick the bottom is.

      m. taylor I use a needle tool right before I open it to see how thick it is. I have done a lot of these so don't really need to check on all of them, I just know.

What about glazing? Interior / exterior? Can you show this too?

Use a good stable liner glaze on the inside. Make sure clay is fired to maturity is the most important thing.

Hi, I am no sure if you mentioned or not but how do you know know how wide to make the weights? And what process do you do to them? They aren't glazed are they? Is the crock just a straight cylinder inside? Lovely pot. Thanks for the tutorial!

jordan walsh I make yhe weights about 1/2 wider than the top opening. It is basically a cylinder but that cylinder is a little wider t g ax n ghe top opening. I glaze my weights but use a special blend of earthenware clay. if you are firing to cone 6 ir hotter, glaze is not really needed.

I agree with the glazing question below, and I would just add to it; what kind of glazing? I'm guessing salt, but I could be wrong. Let me know.

I see you make a very wide moat. I liked the other video better when the view was from the side, The crock is too far up the screen i think.
