The longest I've left dishes in a sink is 24h. He can't even be bothered to wash himself daily, or his kids. I feel grungy if I miss a daily shower, worst I've done is once in three days and that's only when I was to sick to have the energy to shower. The man's wife isn't a clean freak, she's normal.

the stay at home dad not doing chores is absurd to me.
I don't think I'm fixated on cleaning, I'm quite lazy, but not doing the dishes for days? What do these people eat in if the dishes aren't done? That and toilets being cleaned once a week should be the norm...
Also, mopping once every 3 days might be a lot, but vacuuming once a week is the bare minimum and as long as you don't have a 3 stores house it's not going to be that terrible.
Yes, the guy has toddlers, but he doesn't vacuum, doesn't mop, doesn't clean the bathrooms, doesn't do the dishes, doesn't change the babies out of their pijamas, doesn't take the bins back in... What is he doing?
Like, all of those things take like 4 hours max total and you could, and probably should, do them everyday if you're not even working. That is your job.
It's not even a "we only know his side" story imo, because he does quite a good job telling us how bad of a housemate he is, let alone a "stay at home parent".
Yes, maybe washing everyone every day can be debatable as preferences, but the other things are unacceptable to me.

The story on cleaning issues -
    1. Dude leaves dishes in the sink for a couple of days
    2. Thinks bathrooms don't need to be cleaned WEEKLY
    3. Brings outdoor shoes inside (I'm Asian, this is a crime)
    4. Fine - not showering before you get in bed is not that bad
    5. Bathing the children once every 3 days?? Do you know kids like to play in dirt? Even adults ought to bathe once a day, this is so gross
    6. Putting the toys away is again optional
    7. How do you not wash your bedding weekly??
    8. Vacuuming weekly and mopping every 3-4 days is SUPER NORMAL. Especially when you have kids who crawl on the floor. Wtf is mopping every two weeks?? Especially when you bring your outdoor shoes inside
    9. Wife works 40-80 hours a week and rarely gets days off while you don't work and somehow she's at fault for working so much??
YOU ARE SO THE JERK!!! This is not a "decent amount" of work in a day, it's the bare minimum. Sorry Narrator, but you really missed the mark on the commentary this time. A lot of these things were expected to be done once every couple of days/weekly and the ones that were asked for daily are needed daily. Sure things can come up, but that doesn't allow for you to completely neglect your home and kids for literal weeks. This guy had the chance to tell his side of the story and paint it in a light that makes him sound better but all he's done is make himself sound gross. And now he's "furious" his wife leaves him for a bit

Bringing in the bins when I get home from work on garbage day. Laundry and floors, windows, the lawn never mind caring for the cats. I handle most of the chores, on top of having an overly energetic 10 year old daughter and working a minimum of 40 hours at a power plant every week. My ex sounds a lot like you when it comes to cleaning, but that’s a completely different can of worms. Just clean the fuckin house.

In the two WW, sailors would save the crew of their enemies after the sinking of their ships if it was possible even tho they hated their guts (not an absolute truth of course; it was case to case, don’t get me wrong). I'm sorry... WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!?!? I Googled the title of the second story and searched the title on Reddit and found nothing!!!! Who submitted that story!? I'm so confused!!!! Did the Vice Manager deserve to get beaten up? Yeah! He was a jerk and physically and verbally abused the other workers! And hitting people with iron tools could kill someone! But a drunken man, beaten half way to the ground, being thrown into the ocean, at night, has a higher likelyhood of killing than iron tool hitting!!!! What the hell happened after this story!? We need to do some more digging! I couldn't find any information on this story so if anyone has information, please come forward with it!!!!!

The cleaning story is kinda a moxed bag. Both are honestly in the wrong I think. Some things are a daily cleaning (such as the dishes) but others are a little extreme. Now, with kids, I can understand some of it, especially with first time parents. But there needs to be a serious conversation

That sounded honestly very reasonable of her. Thats what my parents did and most of the family around me too. A house with kids get dirty quickly. And if I were the mother I would not be confortable working for both while my spouse stay at home to take care of the kids if he doesn't actually take care of them.

You don't clean your bathroom more thab once a week? You think going 2 weeks without mopping is fine? Letting garbage pile up is no big deal? A mess of toys is one thing but actually dirty floors for WEEKS is absolutely disgusting

    • @phobiawitch835
      @phobiawitch835 Рік тому

@@chelsicurrier2786 The general messes are yeah, they’re gross. When I say excessive is this. Living alone or with very few people (not kids included), mopping daily is a bit much, but once or twice a week does the job. A bathroom is generally the same, with another cleaning before guests arrive because what the heck is going on to cause you to need more than scrubbing the toilet and wiping handled down daily? And garbage pile up is a case of “you see the bag getting full, take it out then. Don’t let stuff sit around, but don’t worry about removing the bag every single day unless you fill an entire bag every day”. Which, considering I live in a house of 5 currently and we are unlucky when we get 3 or more a week, generally having no more than 2 full bags most of the time, is also just a waste of the bags.

Holy shit, that second story really is a homicide. I highly doubt the guy thrown overboard survived, especially considering his level of intoxication. If he managed to:
    a. survive the fall from the deck (hitting water from a great height is equivalent to hitting concrete)
    b. paddle for hours in the pitch black ocean, among the rip currents, violent waves and natural predators
    c. maintain the consciousness and strength to stay afloat. If he survived to this point I’d be surprised. But in the end the withdrawal from the alcohol would have finished him off. You hear a lot of stories about drunk people walking home in freezing temperatures without winter clothing, and because they don’t feel the cold, they sit down on a bench for a rest - and they never wake up because they develop hypothermia overnight. This is so horrifying to think about, and nothing justifies this straight up murder.

Im sorry but i agree with the wife. She isnt a clean freak. The dude is just unclean and unhygienic. Especially that bath especially for young children should be DAILY, because of how they usually are crawling around usually put their hands near their mouths a lot. And not even i could stand dishes being around for days, only a few hours thats it. And the kids being in pjs ALL DAY?! No, just no. Again, unhygienic and lazy. He's teaching his kids bad habits. I understand their young, but once they reach age 3, they should be taught good habits which includes cleaning up their toys and after themselves. Even at 1 years old children learn from their parents and will take their behavior and habits into account and will copy. And the fact its the unclean dad with them the most is a little nerve recking since hes there with them the most. They'll most likely copy his habits and behavior.

Regarding what the drunk guy said to his gf... I think she should dump him over it. When we are drunk we lose that filter we ordinarily have on the things we say. If he said it, he's been thinking it. Look. I'm a guy. I've been drunk. I've been told that I get preachy when I get like that. Not judgmental... Just preachy. My faith is important to me, and I think about it all the time. But without that filter, I sort of wear it on by shirtsleeves. It's funny. Other people get drunk and end up talking dirty and behave raucously. I get more spiritual. The Bible says "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he." and apparently it's true. Because when that filter that keeps the thoughts in our heart contained goes away, our tongue lets them be known.
The fact that this guy has no remorse about what happened tells me that, even though the filter is back, what he thinks in his heart is still there.
None of us are perfect. We struggle daily with our vices. Some of us better at it than others. But bottom line... If he didn't really feel the way his words suggested, he would be falling all over himself apologizing and trying to make amends. She should be asking herself whether or not she wants to dodge the bullet that this major red flag is warning her about.

Kids are messy and dirty and you want to wash them every 1-3 days?!? Also mopping a floor when you have kids they young every few days should be expected. And you only needed to vacuum and wash the bedding once a week? This guy needs to grow a pair and since he's home all day it's not like it's a huge amount of work. I don't blame his wife one bit.

Fourth story: the OP is the absolute jerk, your wife is working and I think she gets worried about what happening at home and you don't help enough because if there wasn't an issue she would be fine. But that image that you don't help enough makes her see that you aren't reliable enough, the safety of your kids, and to have the house nicely done.
Fyi, the problem is not getting someone to help with the house chores or taking care of the kids. You just keep showing her that you can't do the bare minimum to maintain a good environment at home. That is what makes her get mad at you, and the worst, you don't get it. For example, if someone repeats the same thing, you should really think about it. Sometimes, it could be signs that you need to change. Please wake up and make things right for your kids, your wife, and most of all, for you guys to have a happy family.

    Story #2
I suspect a lie there. First because ships have had cameras since the 70s, so not having one in the 80s is a bit odd, especially in Oceania. Maybe in a very poor country, but since the fishing company had a parent company, I would assume the corporation was wealthy enough to afford it and be forced to do so due to having that many ships Second, even during the night, there are always people walking around, because unexpected storms and waves are a thing. There would always be someone driving the ship, and three (or more) people on night shifts working each side.
If this happened, all of these night shift people would have been investigated, probably arrested and sent to jail, and never allowed to work on a ship in their lifetime. The company would also have been sued for not having appropriate measures, the guilt would have been shift around a couple of time, and it would have made the news.
Ain't because it's the 80s that there weren't very strict guidelines regarding safety of employees (It's not the 1800s where if an employee got his arm caught in a machine, it was just too bad)
Also, there is no valid reasons to be on a fishing ships for months, for multiple reasons:
    1. Health issues
    2. Whatever you caught would have died and rotten by then (fishes don't do well without food for months)
    3. You always have someone getting sick on board so you need to make occasional stops on land
    4. A fishing doesn't need to go far from land to do its job.
So... bottom line; not impossible for it to have happened, but I sincerely doubt its veracity.
    Story #4
    Dude... he's a stay-at-home parent.
If my wife told me "Okay, you can stay at home, but I want the dishes done every day, the broom done every two days, the mop weekly and the sheet bi-weekly and the toys put away if the kids are done with it, and that's it, spend your free time as you wish, as long as you care for the kids too", I'd beg her to also let me mow the lawn.
And I *hate* mowing the lawn.
