I may be reading into things too deep, but it sounds like Dean is sister's ACTUAL child, and the whole "you're living in sin" is projection from the sister who would have been 18 when Dean was born.
These types of people like boyfriend's sister are why people are leaving the church in droves. Plus, I think sister needs therapy for this unhealthy behavior towards her younger brother because it's giving "emotional incest" vibes. Also, if OP doesn't sue for defamation of character, I'm just gonna assume it's because she either doesn't have the funds for a lawyer because you know darn well or doesn't want to cause her boyfriend's sister to potentially unalive herself if her reputation gets dragged through the mud. It's funny. I am an atheist and some of the best people I have met here in Texas are religious; genuinely fantastic people. But at the same time the absolute worst and most vile people I have ever met have been deeply religious people. I have never ever met anyone else with more hate in their bodies than some of those deeply religious people, the extremists, the zealots. It is quite ironic because they genuinely consider themselves to be the best and most loving people on earth.

I went with my in-laws to a megachurch once and the entire sermon was essentially about spewing venom onto other religions. The essence of the sermon as a whole was mockery and hate towards anyone who believes different than his church does, and he got cheers and applause when he mocked what other religions believe. Then there are great churches where people go to just be good and spread the love and while they might not agree with my stance to be an atheist they had nothing but kindness for me. They didn't push, they didn't prod, they just wished nothing but the best for me, as did I to them.

I don't usually care enough to call something fake, but the idea of a grown woman CRYING and slapping someone who she has been openly mocking and talking shit about just because she saw a plastic skeleton is so unbelievable that I can't take this seriously. Even if you don't mention the whole family taking that lady's side, it's not even the funny kind of fake.
