    I've seen systema work similar to Aikido. It's mostly cooperation. Once someone doesn't cooperate, most of these techniques fall completely apart. There are techniques there, but most won't work without a guy who falls and acts well for the teacher. I also see this with the people who claim they can throw their chi and knock someone out. Again, there are some legit principles and techniques here, for most though, this stuff is better kept on stage than applied in the ring or on the streets. Checkout Jing Shen Kuoshu

      Some of those reactions are legitimate because he's hitting people at the tip of the sternum. To recoil at a hit to the sternum is to be expected by average people, wouldn't work on spetnaz and equivalent or a high trained spook, unless he hit them full force breaking the tip of sternum, as they are trained to ignore superficial pain or discomfort. It is dangerous to hit someone there, one-day he may hit someone like that which has a low bone density and will be in para shit. He knows this, which is why he holds back.

    I've myself practiced systema, I can say myself that it seems rather weird with the practice as well since it's all about being relaxed, but once systema actually speeds up (you practice with slow movements) it is rather effective. Those gut punches which makes people bend over, I've had a few of those, one made my muscles contract because I wasn't relaxed and I could barely breathe at all. You could easily fell someone with just movements and positioning (look at judo as an example) there are holds which doesn't take much effort but are difficult to get out of (mma, jiu-jitsu) as well as using your opponent's energy against them (Tai-chi, Aikido). It's not about being fancy or devastating, it's about surviving a fight and maintaining stamina til help arrives.
    My teacher told us something along the lines of "if someone ever pulls out a knife, just run. If you have to fight, you're already dying. Don't think you'll get away from there harm-free, you just have to survive long enough for the ambulance to pick you up afterwards regardless if you win or lose." The punches used have no tension behind them so you won't be draining yourself and when are being hit or about to be hit, people instinctively tense up, it contracts your muscles making movements more restricted.
    Think of the relaxation as the difference between a stick and a whip. Both hurts of course, but it's easier to break a stick and it's easier to use the stick against the one who is using it. Martial arts in general are about relaxing your body to tense up only when it's beneficial to do so, systema, tai-chi and aikido for instance, wants to exploit the tension of the opponent. If you want to be good at systema, you need situational awareness more than anything and be able to adapt on the spot to your opponent(s), the environment you're in, what restrictions you have to yourself (clothes, baggage, people, being unarmed against a knife etc.) and what do you have to your disposal (a jacket, keys on a key chain, iron rod, wooden stick or environmental features like a railing, rock, pot hole, etc.) Delay the fight til you can get help, you find a decisive opening or til your opponent can't fight anymore.
    This is my experience with the martial art and I strongly recommend it. People will lose stamina quickly, ten minutes is an eternity in constant fighting, try jumping, walking around, punching and kicking the air for 10 min and see when you start losing your energy. Then walk around and shove out into the air without applying force and shove with your feet too.

    Training in Systema now and the punches dont look like they hurt in videos or even in person, but are very effective. In Systema its not about hurting your attacker its about ending the altercation as quickly as possible, as well as the many philosophical lessons. In a real situation with no rules Systema can be deadly if you have the training and the capacity for violence.

  • @nwaikikai
    @nwaikikai 8 років тому +8

    I've always wondered why punching someone in the diaphragm is used by Systema as proof of the power of their blows. Repeated blows to the diaphragm will cause the same effect on pretty much anyone! It is remarkably easy to cause paralysis to the diaphragm muscle by sharp impact. Even people who train to toughen themselves against such a blow, if they are caught off-guard, will collapse. I have seen this many times in my training in the martial arts.

These men have devoted themselves to their sport and are competitors of the highest caliber. Lot of unbelievers here... I have studied systema for 3 years and cannot imagine time better spent. I am really sad, that I had to quit because of college. But I plan to go back one day. It's really amazing how you get to know your body and bodies of your opponents... You learn that your ego is not as important as your health... You learn that it's not cool to fight and that you should fight only if you have to... You should fight only if you or your friends are in immediate danger and if fight can be avoided, you should avoid it... And for you, who think that those "little" punches which can knock out opponent are bullshit... Let's just say that I have seen one MMA fighter, who also didn't believe until our coach showed him... Punched him lightly and the MMA fighter had really hard time breathing for next 5 minutes... Then he apologized, that he didn't believe... So... Don't say, that it's bullshit, if you didn't experience it...

These guys are absolute masters and demonstrate how Chinese martial arts would work from a master (many bad videos on youtube not many of the masters of COMBAT). They have full control over moving their own bodies and knowing the precise striking areas of their enemies and how to maximize delivered force! This is one of the great videos that shows the deeper side of combat that many will never know.

    This martial art is good, they are using body pressure points and physicality against the opponent. It is a good system, but I'm not sure it would work so well against a trained fighter. I think it is useful in a street situation, but not so much in a competitive sports scenario (arena), but it is good to learn about this type of system if you are interested in studying martial arts as a form of self defence in real life situations. It is very interesting, and I imagine it takes years of study to develop awareness of the bio-mechanics necessary for this type of immediate take-down techniques. Well done!

    • @Turgz
      @Turgz 9 років тому +5

      Kevin Mallen Yeah as you say it is good for street fights, but this ''system'' isnt used by itself; systema, sambo and ROSS is used in-conjunction with each other as one style of fighting. This way of fighting is taught to russian combat troops to literally keep them alive when in extreme close-quarter situations.
      If one of these soldiers fought a fighter who trains for sports, the soldier would most likely have him on the floor dead within seconds. However, if this system was actually used in sport, it would be severely hindered and wouldnt be effective because killing and incapacitating in UFC isn't allowed, obviously.. but anyway it is interesting to learn these things.

    • @Rentonboyo
      @Rentonboyo 9 років тому +7

      I like Muay Thai in an arena scenario as a sport. I do Muay Thai, but in real life there is no application for these types of striking. Systema and other bio-mechanical systems of this nature seem to be the opposite; they have a great deal of application to real life scenarios, but not so much in terms of sporting application.
      I respect Systema as a very good real life martial art; but for the purposes of arena boxing it isn't something I would be studying myself at the moment. I hope sometime in the future I can have greater exposure to this system because it is certainly a very useful skill.

    • @Banchoking
      @Banchoking 9 років тому +1

      Kevin Mallen Well, sport Muay Thai is heavily modified to make it safer. The original style is rather lethal.

    • @Rentonboyo
      @Rentonboyo 9 років тому +2

      It is primarily a sport. As stated earlier there is no incapacitation or lethal end to the study of Muay Thai; it is a points scoring system designed for sporting extravaganza.
      There is also a system taught to Thai Military based on Muay Thai which is closer to the original system.

    To those of you who think this is choreographed or some sort of BS, give me a few seconds of your time. I’m 6”1’ 200lbs and train extensively with automatic small arms. It’s not unusual for me to run 5000-8000 rounds though sub and SAW in a weekend with a couple thousand rounds through pistols on top of that. I didn’t want to know this, as I saw no use for it. A Spetsnaz buddy showed me what I could only call, “an introductory to Systema,” and it changed my life. I’d never lost a fight before, but just applying the BASICS of Systema, I can toss ANYONE around who makes a move at me- and I never have to pull a firearm in a populated situation. I’m nobody, I mean, I’m less than the grass you walk on, but just a few minutes with a brother who knew Systema, and suddenly it was as though I had super powers. Once you learn the fundamentals, that’s it. I actually hope that it doesn’t blow up like Krav Maga. This is too powerful, and I like being one of the few that understand the basic principles. I've seen a lot of people come forward to defend this martial art. I will not debate the appearance of compliance by peers, nor will I debate the effectiveness of striking someone's diaphragm. What I will ask is to see someone that is well trained, a master of sorts, use these techniques at full strength and speed in a real situation or a competitive MMA setting.
    Seeing as people on here watch lots of videos, maybe you can direct me to videos of Systema being implemented in a real world situation at full speed and power or even a sterile environment for a Systema trained 'combatant?' to take on a balanced MMA opponent.
    Don't say it doesn't need to prove itself against other systems or that you saw... or know someone that... I want to see that this system of combat is effective in life not practice.

      fighting17chicago I know this is a late reply. You should check out Kevin Secours and Martin Wheeler if you want to see the system demonstrated in a more westernized aspect. I'd recommend checking out Alex Kostic aswell, one of his students compete in mma.
      And for the real world part; systema is based of principles, not techniques. It essentially teaches you how to improvise in a correct manner, makes you apply what looks like techniques without thinking about it to much. The psychological training is just as important as the "survival training". But you really need to try it(At a legit school) to understand it.
      The sad part is that due to the systems rapid expansion there are ALOT of bullshit "schools".

    • @fighting17chicago

      Daryl Black Thanks for the links. The first not so good, the second was a much better representation of what I wanted to see. Did anyone but me see that when he was allowed to strike back it pretty much turned into a boxing match? I'm curious now as to why Eastern Martial Arts (Japan/China) use "techniques" instead of systems. Can anyone in EMA's chime in on that? I'm wondering if the structure really does serve a purpose (it appears it does as "techniques" get a job done and "systems" are more like badly executed "plans" of attack)

    • @mohammadtausifrafi8277
      @mohammadtausifrafi8277 9 років тому

      fighting17chicago I think in real life situations it is difficult to execute a series of preplanned moves as the situation may not always progress accordingly. So, applying varying combinations of techniques based on the situation is probably a more practical approach. Just my personal opinion.

    For everyone calling this fake......
    What you are seeing is a very slow demonstration of motion. There are no "moves" in Systema. It is about breathing, relaxing and what could be called channeling of motion. Its not about specific holds, stances or "using your chi". The students in the demonstrations are not just being compliant like the fake Kung Fu guys. They are learning as part of the process. When you are involved in Systema instruction what you are encouraged to do is be a good training partner so that it helps both of you. You are not as I said looking to take a specific position of your hands or feet, what you are doing is reacting to the attackers movements and position of his attack. You go slow to learn an instinctualize the motions and feel how the balance shifts. Its very hard to describe unless you have done it and know what I am talking about but you can feel the other person as they shift their weight or what you could call the energy of their movement. Things go slowly as you build that familiarity to it. When the person is "attacking" Vlad or Mikhail, they know that they are going to need to react to that movement themselves so they can experience it and learn to deal with the motions like that. Thats why they fall or roll or what have you. It looks "choreographed" because he is just reacting to the movements that the student makes. Its not that the instructor is doing something to them like overpowering them. Its not about "destroying" the opponent as much as it is redirecting their movement away from you or into a position that you do gain an advantage and can then actually deliver a strike if needed. And trust me when I tell you that the strikes are nothing to be dismissed. You think it looks like nothing, but it is deceptively powerful.
    Honestly its a far more "real" form of defense than most martial arts because its not about anything other than breathing, relaxation and motion. Its absolutely NOT about needing your opponent to do something specific so your technique will work on them. Even if you took nothing more away from it than the breathing, its very much a useful tool to have in your toolbox. What opened my eyes after my first day training was realizing how much we go through the day holding our breath for no reason. Try that. Pay attention to your breathing for one day and keep track of every time you catch yourself not breathing. Its crazy.

    OK, guys. First of all Mikhail Rybko and Vladimir Vasiliev practicing system that was design by Rybko. V.Vasieliev his student, both ex-special forces officers with real combat experience. Vasiliev lives in Toronto now and heads HQ of Russian martial art "Systema spetsnaz" Toronto. His picture was shown on cover of "Black Belt" magazine. Who is Vadim Starov I don't know, he does not practicing Rybko's system, so don't confuse them. There are many different systems, all called "systema", wich is just russian word written by latin letters. Toronto HQ holds week long international training camp in Ontario every 2 years, that was visited by people all over the world, they are from different backgrounds, including military personal, lawenforcing agencies, martial art instructors (other then systema). Some of them coming to every camp despite that price around $4000 CDN. Would be that people pay that amount of money for fake? I also was sceptical seen videos as I practiced martial arts when I was young. But I decided to visit that camp once. Well, yes, this staff works. But! It completely different from conventional martial arts as it is based on relaxation and breathing. There is a completely different unique inner mechanism. And yes, you don't need to be physically fit. I'm almost 60 y.o. now, overweight, have diabetes and other alignments, don't do exercises any more but I still can do 10 push ups any time if I can relax my elbow and shoulders, same with heavy lifting. Instructors don't do anything fast on purpose - to let people see details, I so it once in fast motion - it's like both guys got jolted and attacker flies in one direction and his knife in another. But you can't see what was done and how with this speed. And yes, it is painful, many guys who pictured in videos already know it and don't want to fill it again that is why many behave oddly.

      Both ryabko, vasiliev and starov studied systema from Kadochnikov father of systema

      @@fuzkforyou Kadochnikov's systema and Rybkov's systema are different systemas. Kadochnikov's systema was based on knowledge of physics and bio-mechanics, while Rybkov's systema based on relaxation and breathing. They might started from studying Kadochnikov's systema but later Rybkov designed it's own. And Rybkov's systema is all about surviving, hand to hand combat is only small portion of it. And from seeing video of Stratov I can tell for sure that he does not know Rybkov's systema as there is no any fighting stance in Rybkov's systema, your normal everyday stance is your fighting stance.
