- Duramaxtuner introduces Six Speed Conversion for the 2001 - 2005 Duramax. For years, early Duramax owners endured barbs from owners of newer model trucks because they lacked that sixth gear.
The five-speed Allison offers everything required for extra gear except the tuning and valve body upgrades.

I think you need to rebuild your Allison and increase it's strength internally. I have a 90hp EFI Live tune on my LLY and my Allison has no issues at all. You can't expect an old tranny to hold a lot of torque while being lead footed....
I thought it was fine long as u ain’t dogging it daily that it could hold up to 600hp now that’s what I have been told I bought my dads 05lly gmc sierra and it’s a beast 5postion switch efi live I know it’s pushing a little north or 500 hp with no trans upgrade but like I said I just bought it so I’m looking into getting it done soon

Would've been interesting to have this in my 2004.5 LLY. Thought when I got my 2012 Cummins, newer truck, 6 gears, I'd get better mileage. Nope! Worse. Love both trucks though. Cummins has Calibrated Power tunes from these guys with trans tune for about a year now. Works great.
regen and the extra emissions crap on the later year model trucks typically lowered mpg, for all makes

H hi, just wanted to say thanks for the video. I wouldn't consider myself a diesel guy I'm more of a big-block gas you know like 8.1 L type of guy but I've had a power stroke I had to elwise back in the day but didn't have them long enough to really start to play with the one thing I didn't notice was it seemed like the power with an edge tuner was not consistent

Just wondering if i could put a valve body and TCM from a 6 speed and put it in my 04 5 speed. looking the cost diff from new to used ?
TCM from a 6-Speed would require a completely new harness as the a40('06-'10) is not the same as the AL5 ('01-'05).
I have an 02 HD Silverado with the 1000 5 speed. At my mechanics request I recently had my TCM replaced, shortly after I began to have trouble with my shift selector light, the square indicator light that shows which gear you have selected. It comes and goes with no regularity upon start up. Sometimes things work better if you start the truck in neutral. Once it does light there is no problem until you restart the truck. I have had a new shift lever installed along with a new key cylinder, new ignition switch, a new internal trans harness. I trust my mechanic but cannot continue with trial and error. I failed to mention that upon installing the new TCM one of the prongs on the harness misaligned, the vehicle was sent to the dealership to be programed and according to my mechanic no flags were raised. The vehicle did not shift properly and they ended up pulling the TCM out and discovered the problem and reinstalled the TCM. I have been told that the wiring harness that fits into the TCM is very sensitive so I am curious if this is a possibilty or could there be no connection to the shift indicator.
What has to be done? What is the average cost? These are things we need to know
Question begging to be asked is "Why did GM not opt for the 6th gear?" Does anyone know that information?
I have the opportunity to pick up a truck with an LLY very cheap, so whether that motor stays in that particular truck or goes into another one your input is greatly appreciated because before adding power I would like let's say bulletproof it, endured make it more efficient and 100% before anything else

i like the 6th gear i get in my ZF6.
So I recently dropped my transmission to change the torque converter on my built trans and now the dang thing won't shift into reverse and sometimes will shift into drive but drops out after a few seconds. As far as I can tell seems like the trim solenoid F is Shot, that or the wiring. My trans builder is insisting it's the wiring and said he'd send the parts but I'd pay the labor to have some one else redo my shift solenoids and wiring so I decided to order this conversion instead and a new nsbu switch directly from Allison. I have a fleece tap shifter as well. Hoping I might get a call from you guys on Monday so we can discuss further my setup and needs. Hoping this resolves my range shift issues and as far as trouble codes I get a p0743 and sometimes a p0848. You guys are the gurus and I'm tired of getting treated like an after thought by the people who built my transmission. Hope to hear back from guys, you always are so helpful! Thanks in advance!

Hey I have a 04 lb7 it’s a 5 speed. It’s got a built trans. Would that affect anything if it is already tuned and I put in a new tcm?
It will adjust shift points. It compliments engine tuning more so.
Will this work with the Banks Sixgun tuner? Have a 2004 LB7.
The $1300 core charge makes this cost over the top, No one including me buys it because of that. I just actually canceled my order for one after they added this charge on after I thought I bought the kit. You can get the cores for under $600 on eBay all day why they shoot themselves in the foot to add that much is why they sell so few of these kits!

We'd have to reprogram it for you.
Any reason you couldn’t add a 7th speed by getting it to engage C2 and C5? So you could run a shorter final drive and narrow the (large) RPM gap between 4th and 5th?

I have a 2001 but I want to put the dash from a 2006 in my truck so I can have the manual shift option with the button on the shifter. "Tap shift"

not sure where lbz guys get off, have you ever seen a lbz get better mpg than a 5 speed lb7? on highway trips with my 03 its common to see 20-22 if i run at 65
Justin Magness mostly stock. Boost increase valve, cold air intake, set the waste gate to 25psi, 4 inch exhaust and banks 6 gun. Truck has 35s and six inches of lift.

@@Duramaxtuner That sounds good, why the core charge? Also, I pull a 32 ft gooseneck with a backhoe (31, 247 lbs) will affect this conversion? My truck is a single cab 2002 duramax lb7 dually.
@@robertelee6712 Core charge is for the stock TCM, we of course refund that once you send it back. Towing at or near GVW will NOT be a problem. We have done a few of those cab configurations.

Can this be add on to a a motorhome with a 5.9L cummins. Allison 1000 5 speeds? I get 65 right at 2000 rpm. Will be nice to keep speed and drops rpms.
Have a 03 motor home, 8.1 with allison 5 speed. Can this be installed and tuned to allow for better fuel mileage? already have full banks system, when sitting at 65 another gear could be used to mellow it out.

I drive my local dealership parts department nuts because they insist the WIX brand is better! They tell me I'm over-paying for the Allison brand. Lately I've been ordering them online.
Over paying? You can get the Allison filter for around $7 online.

Slipping is typically a sign your transmission is going bad. The TCM tuning that comes with the 6-Speed Conversion Kit will help with hanging up in gears!

Duramaxtuner. If a person does this kit and then wants to do a shift kit would they use the 6 speed shift kit or do they still have to pull the trans to do the shift kit?
You won't need a shift kit if you install this kit.
So I have read before that a built trans and 6spd conversion don't go together. Is this the case with this set up? I have contemplated 3.42 gears to be able to have a built trans and lower rpms.

Is this a drop in unit where I wouldn’t have to go the dealer to calibrate the tcm?
I also have a PPE stage 5 trans, when you say upgraded valve body would it already be able to support my trans with the higher pressures?
Lastly, I do have your tuning (the spade king) with the trans tuning already on my truck would I have to reflash it?
The tap shifter can be installed without going to the dealer. The 6 Speed Conversion kit comes with a pre-tuned TCM.
i wanna convert my Allison 1000 to 6 speed and run it behind a 12v Cummins in my 70 Suburban. can you guys do a TCM that will work with the Cummins?
No. We have worked with guys that run similar setups. The general rule is that you need to have it running and driving before we start tuning.

Pretty straight forward - replace the valve body and tcm in the engine bay.

Will this help make the trans last longer than it would without, or just help with mileage and sound?
Trans tuning is going to massively improve drive-ability and shift quality. It will impact sound a little bit since there will be times that TCM tuning reduces operating RPMs. Our theory is that this strategy will help with longevity.

Sam You do not need to have new tunes. The TCM will be tuned accordingly.
You will not need to re-tune your ECM for this.

My 2004.5 lly has 172,000 miles would it be worth the $2,000+ add on would I benefit I don’t pull much more like an lawn ornament I get 16.6 mph so far had it a few months now no long trips to see if it gets better mpg would it hurt the tranny to drain the fluid never did this yet
Worth is different for everyone....I think it's worth it if you plan on keeping the truck indefinitely and want to reduce RPM on the HWY, plus have some increased mileage. I believe the valve body also comes equipped with a Transgo Jr shift kit that helps increase line pressure and shifting to help transmission live longer.
If I'm thinking correctly, with today's fuel prices (approx $4.75 a gallon) you would need to drive 100,000 in 6th gear to pay for itself. You'd be going from 16.6mpg to 18mpg with a fuel savings of about .02 cents a mile divided by $2000 install = a 100k road trip to break even.

No, that is generally caused by failing clutches or a failing torque converter. This kit will work with a built transmission. In fact we can build the kit into a built transmission and ship it to you.

It should, this just swaps the valve body so that it can engage two sets of clutches to create a 6th gear ratio.
I've heard pump is different in 6 speeds than 5 speeds.
The pump isn't the issue, the valve body is. That is why our kit comes with a custom valve body.
@@Duramaxtuner Enh...Kelsey at CA Conversions is pretty adamant about the pump, valve body and internal harness. She sounded like she knew what she was talking about when I talked to her at SEMA. It'll work, just not ideal.
