Thanks for posting this yet another informational video. After purchasing your guys 5-6 speed conversion I’m going through this relearn process currently. I’ve talked with you guys a couple times by phone and now it all makes sense. Thanks guys!
I know Im randomly asking but does someone know of a way to log back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Joe Zavier i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and im in the hacking process atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
With regard to your comments in the last few minutes of this video, is it better to stay in one tune or the other (mileage tune vs. Tow tune) for the transmissions sake? I pull a trailer(15,680 gvwr dump) on the weekends, then drive empty for most of the week. I've always gone back to the mileage tune when empty. This makes me think I should just stay in the tow tune......???
Doesn't matter as long you run it through all the gears a few times after switching, increasing the throttle each time. Do it a few times, especially when going to a higher power tune. It's not nearly as much of an issue when stepping down to lower power.
Ok..... Now that's interesting! I just bought an 02 8.1 liter gasser, my first Allison so I have nothing to compare it to as far it's shifting feel. Does this technology apply to the 02 Allison?
Nomadic Fenceman i have 8.1 as well but with 4L85 was looking to get Allison 6sp. Wondering if this would apply to Allison with the gas engine with a tune. Probably have to call.
Had to replace the NSBU so I unhooked the TCM for electrical testing. Will I have to put the trans through a relearn again? I also have the 8.1 not Dmax if that matters
I have a question maybe you or one of the followers can help with... 05 Sierra duramax 5speed 290k I don't believe allison has ever been rebuilt.. I had a slight shudder when torque convertor was locked in (via edge monitor) I hauled my 30' bumper pull camper 850 miles round trip and now the shudder is horrible in 4th and 5th gear when tc is locked in, I did notice this usually happens after tranny temp hits 108° and up. Plan to do a service with both filters. Also noticed that when brake pedal is applied when tc is locked it does not disengage like it should, my new brake switch just arrived today.. Hoping one or both helps as I don't have the funds for a 1200-1500 converter and labor
My truck is tuned with Ez Lynk (A.R.T.) and i just started using an Edge CTS3 and i have the EAS SOTF installed, now that i can switch tunes on the fly should i do a relearn with the CTS? I'm on a 75hp setting and the tranny shifts nicely as it always has. But would a relearn be beneficial to the longevity of my transmission??
So what if I had a TCM failure and had to swap it out? I bought a pre-programmed one from Ryan’s Diesel Service, direct plug and play. Does this automatically put my truck into relearn? Or do I manually do that? Or do I even have to relearn?
Great video Nick. question for you guys.. I did a 4" FloPro exhaust, FASS Lift Pump, CP3, Wehrli full intake with downpipe, EGR Delete, then am doing the 1-5 PPEI Tune (30-150hp), do all of these tips on how to have the Allison re-learn/adapt apply if I haven't touched the Transmission? I would assume yes as it would make sense, but just wondering if there are any other tips for a guy who isn't doing a new transmission. Thanks for any help or just confirming I should go through all of the 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 etc on each of the 1-5 tunes (And back down).
Hey guys, great video. Not so quick question for you... I recently bought a 2019 L5P, I installed a banks tuner at 500 miles and as recommended by Banks, daily drove on their highest setting. One time getting onto a highway I gave about 3/4 throttle and transmission stumbled and went into limp mode. After disconnecting and reconnecting the battery the truck was fine, until it happened a second time. I got pretty annoyed and took the tuner off and haven’t had this happen again (currently at 2000 mi) however when I’m in 3rd gear, I believe I’m feeling the torque converter lock and it drops about 2-300 RPM and just feels very odd, almost as if it’s two gears within the 3rd gear. This is my first Duramax/Allison combo (coming from a 6.0 gas 3/4 ton decided to upgrade to diesel as my horse trailer was putting a beating on previous truck). I’m not sure if the truck was shifting this way before the tuner/if it’s normal or if I’m freaking myself out for nothing. I had GM perform a reset of the transmission a few hundred miles ago but nothing has changed, so I’m wondering... is this normal, or, is my torque converter engaging too soon/at the wrong time? Sorry for the huge question... just a noob diesel owner here.
And just another tidbit of info... I have NOT towed with it yet, trying to get at least a few thousand on it before I hook up the 13k horse trailer, however if I put truck in tow/haul mode the torque converter locks in right as I get into 3rd gear with none of that funky rpm drop halfway through 3rd gear, which makes me think I could just be overthinking things... but would rather be safe than sorry, thanks.
My gmc 2005 Sierra duramax 2500 had won’t let me floor it it waits till it gets to 40mph then boost comes on what could this be is it in limp mode and will doing this transmission relearn help my truck go back to normal
Has anyone put on a deep pan and notice a difference in shifting. Did the pan and Dexron VI, relearn on transmission and still seems way different than before.
Nick, Edge added relearn to the CTS3 insight. I have a Stock over S475, 30% overs,10BAR and a DT-750 with the 6-speed conversion. Is it okay for me to do a relearn via the CTS3?
I did a transmission tune and didn’t do the relearn procedure after my trans leaked from top took to shop said it’s out vent getting to hot clutch damage needs new trans so you think that fried my trans not performing the relearn procedure ?
Hey Nick, can this relearn be performed on your 6 speed conversion? Just had the trans built and some engine work done and it's shifting poorly. The Fleece tap shifter isn't working anymore either.
Just got my transmission built and got the truck back today. Shifts are pretty clean sometimes a rough downshift going from 2nd -1st. But when I go from neutral to park it has kind of a loud clunk to it when I move it slowly into gear. Is that normal? Even getting on it seems like it skips 4th gear and jumps to 5th
Drove it about 75-80miles today so lots of stops and starts and took my time shifting from park to drive to reverse back to park as well. If I shifted it fast up to park sound wasn’t bad
my dt 750 in my lml has been in for 4 weeks now and you would never know its not a stock trans..... just when your wide open and it locks lol... thanks jim
questions i have your spade jack and your stock trans tuning should i use my edge insight to to a trans relearn it seams to drive nice really didn't feel any difference with the shift points thank you could you guys maybe put some images up on your website about installing a oil temp sender PLEASE PLEASE and where the temps should me before summer i live in WEST texas and 100- 115 summer i want my truck to last PLEASE
So what's your thoughts of an 05 Duramax Allison 5-speed transmission that shifts 1 2 2 3 3 4 but I get no 4 5 shift basically have no overdrive it does not shift into 5th gear at no check engine lights no codes stored in the computer I'm kind of stumped on this one any advice would be hot be nice
Torque converters not locking up and we are monitoring our shifts and data with a Solus Snap-on Solus thank you for replying I appreciate any feedback on this problem I'm having
Kiffs Landscaping tes-295. Stock trans? Allison recommends Transynd. They ship them to GM with Transynd in it, only for GM to drain and put Dex 3 or Dex 6 in (depending on year of duramax). But if you have a built trans, most builders will recommend Dex 3, I believe because of its viscosity, and it will arrive to you with that in it.
@@jhurley12 Am I understanding you correctly that Allison shipped a 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD with Allison 1000 with transyd ATF and then GM changed the ATF fluid to Dex VI at the factory? Do you have a source to validate your claim?
Chris Bryant I didnt say 2015, so I can't speak for the 2015's, but at LEAST through LBZ, but you can pretty much accept it as fact for the older models if you look up in the forums, an Allison higher-up is a member there, and he stated that in a lengthy reply to the topic. Other members knew him to be an employee. And this is kind of a well known thing. I can't imagine Allison changing their mind on what fluid to use. If Gm wants to waste Allison's time, that's up to GM. Transynd is what comes in them from Allison, that is fact. When you buy a new truck from GM, it has Dex 6 in it. That is also a fact. Who knows what deal GM has with Allison as far as who covers warranty due to a different fluid.. after all, GM owned Allison until recently. Dex 6 is fine..
Why would my lmm dually on 120 tune out of the gate too the floor defuel between 1st and 2nd so hard it puts you in the windshield and then instantly puts you back in your seat.?
boost lord I have an lmm dually also, tuned by Idaho rob. It had plenty of balls, but also defuels badly when I hit it. I also have a built tranny. I’m going to get some moonshine next week. This defuel crap pisses me off, it’s ridiculous to have that much defueling
Im only 30 and went through automotive school but I miss mechanical instead of this electronic stuff. Seems like electronic just causes more issues. Glad airplanes are still almost completely mechanical. Airbus's are a pos compared to Boeing and McDonald Douglas.
I agree partially with you. If it was mechanical then its easier to diagnose. On the other hand without the electronic support it wouldn't be able to adapt to all driving styles and probably wouldn't get over 300k on a stock truck without a transmission rebuild.
Your videos are always informative and technical. Good stuff 👍🏻
Excellent video. To the point without fluff with the right amount of detail. My question - will the same principles apply to a Ram 68RFE transmission?

Great advice for my 2018 GMC Denali with a constant 2 ton payload!

I was wondering the same kunda looked like a 6.2 diesel logo
Great video...I'm learning a lot from your stuff.
i bought a lp5 and my trans made a loud bang a couple times. never did it again
So I have your tcm tuning as well. You didn’t mention how that plays into how the transmission functions.

The relearn you did probably made more of an impact than a deep pan of fluid change.
Success!! finally a good relearn! Thanks for the video and reply

Are you have any shifting or shift quality issues?
Can trying to set adapts on a wet road when the tires spin after a shift cause a code?
Yeah don’t do that
I did a transmission tune and didn’t do the relearn procedure after my trans leaked from top took to shop said it’s out vent getting to hot clutch damage needs new trans so you think that fried my trans not performing the relearn procedure ?
I would be very surprised if not doing the relearn procedure is completely to blame. Were you driving it hard? Was it slamming into gear?
Hey Nick, can this relearn be performed on your 6 speed conversion? Just had the trans built and some engine work done and it's shifting poorly. The Fleece tap shifter isn't working anymore either.
I would not expect a relearn to resolve those symptoms. Any codes when you scan it?
Would you relearn the transmission just bc you bought a used one? Just in case I have a different driving style than the previous owner.
If you are flashing the transmission computer, always a good habit to drive it with relearn in mind.
