Having been a ford diesel tech from 95-2006 it’s great to see the passion and joy you get from sharing your knowledge. I’ve seen a lot of other techs on u tube over the years and you by far along with your pod cast are one of the best out their . I have owned every ford diesel except 6.4 for a reason lol by far my 2020 f250 6.7 is the best .
Anyhelp, i got you!!!! Love to have ya on the show Powerstroketechtalkwarod@gmail.com
I also was a ford diesel tech. I have A 2016 love it 67 000 so far a monster. Front crank seal in house removel is also a pain in the u know what using that tool. U need the pacience of a yo men. Lol
Thanks for showing us how it’s done (in real time & w/o any camera / editing tricks).
I have done a rear main seal, but not on a truck.
Was on my 1996 Nissan 300 Zx twin turbo (VG30DETT).
Surprising to see a skilled professional run in to problems like us mortal amateurs.
Great video.

A- Rod is the man!! If it's a diesel or any other Ford and you can't figure it out , then contact him and I promise he will tell you how to repair it !!! He's my buddy and a hell of a Ford Technician !!!!!

@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod yo Arod great video if you ever come across some 6.0s by all means post a video I don’t care about content lol I have a 2004 F250 king ranch 6.0 and absolutely love it. I’ve got to replace IPR on it and yes I have a motorcraft IPR. Any tips or concerns replacing the IPR? I’ve watched dieseltechRon video but didn’t know if you also had any input thanks man 🙏😎

5:20 Something I once overheard a Chevy Truck owner say. "I was pushing and driving it at the same time" FYI Cuz Great informative video.
Hey Big dog. Sweet vid. People don’t understand how many trucks you look at. You show the crazy ones and everyone thinks there’s a ford problem 🤷🏼♂️.
I know man, 🤷♂️🤦♂️ Thank u
Awesome job as always man, your customers are lucky to have you turning wrenches on their rigs!
🙏🙏🙏
Thank God the installation was much easier then the removal. Great job brother!!!
When removing the crank seal I use a self tapper in the center and a small pry bar to pull the seal out way faster and easier than using the removal tool
Beeeeeeecareful
I think,,, I hope I never have to do this. Watching you do it is much more enjoyable. 👍
Thanks buddy🤝👍
This is major work for something this new. Something is seriously wrong at Ford....
Pal...u haven't any clue
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Maybe you could sell him one...
Ill damn try
Or maybe not. They could do it to make money from spare parts and to keep techs busy 🤔
Doubt it
Once again I would suspect most guys would try once then then pry it out and bang a new one in. Nice to see it done properly
Thanks bud
Hey guy !
What I find that works good is you take a razor knife and cut the out lip seal out first the tool bites much better and usually come out on first try with the tool 👍🏼 I do these things all the time . At least 2 a week with front cover and upper oil pan reseals.
Gotta love the CCV System on these trucks.
No kiddin!! 🙌🙌🙌👌👌
A TEN year known issue. Amazing!!
It might help on the next one to scribe a small line on the tool to know how far in you have to go, nice video, thanks
Great vid ARod. Nice and concise explanation. It really helps to get an up and close visual of the process. Keep up the great work.
Great video.I love your passion for the 6.7. My sons 2014 is getting it done as I type.He has 135,000 on it and it’s worked very hard.My 2017 King Ranch only has 18,000 and dry as a bone.Boy I wish you were a Ford technician here in upstate New York.
Come thru, got guys coming from the rocky mountains!!!
I remember a spark plug removal tool for the 5.4 3 valve Titan. OTC is getting very wealthy with specialty tools for Ford engines. Oh wait, don't forget the seal tool for the vacuum hubs. Lol
I love working on these engines
Ditto
EXCELLENT VIDEO THANKS FOR ALL YOUR VIDEOS IT TAKES PROFESIONALS LIKE U TO HELP THE REST OF US OUT 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I'm all in I'm a field service heavy equipment mechanic was truck mechanic for 15 yrs at a Chevy dealership back n the day I do all my own work and own a 2013 true cab/chassis f450 4wd crew cab Derated of course love my 6.7
My fishing buddy just bought a brand new 2020 f250 king ranch 6.7 1 with in a week the rear main was leaking. Took the dealership 2 weeks to fix it because they told him the first one they installed was bad. No leaks now I just looked under it on our last fishing trip and we just pulling a 4,000 lb bay boat. He did get free oil changes for a year after he threw a fit. I just thought that was nuts for a brand new truck to be leaking that’s why I’m looking at this video. But like I told him it happens
And everyone has to remember this is just one truck that I am working on everybody takes this 1 truck and thinks that means that every 67 out there on the road and that Ford makes is leaking that is heavily heavily not the case.......
Looks like you got it done right thanks for the video to help out
Warranty Wont see me under there. When the ODO hits 150K trade it in and do it all again. Cant do that kinda work anymore, did it for 50+ years.
Great job, I would use a longer socket driver it would add more leverage making easier to turn and set the tool in the seal.
That seal removal tool looks to be made heavy duty enough to hit the crap out of it from the start. Ever seen the videos of guys shoving a piece of bread in the rear seal and using a hammer to force out the crank seal?😅 Great work btw!
476K on my 2012, leaking slowly since 250K, but now to the point where I have add oil between changes. Dreading the repair bill on this. Always planned to repair it when the transmission failed, but that has not happened. Haven’t changed the fluid since I bought it at 150K, but the damn thing keeps going.
I wanted to get in there and give you a break and help you out, what the flock, awesome job 👍😁
I know she didnt wanna come out right away....🤷♂️
Thank you so much for all the great videos you are great at your job I wish there were more people like you! By the way happy holidays! Thanks for keeping us all informed
💞💞💞🤝🤝🤝
I don’t understand why you’d fix the built in rust proofing dispenser system...
I had a geo metro and they were notorious for rusting out where the control arm mounts to the unibody, thus totaling car. My metro had a pretty good oil leak but, ironically it had no rust where the control arm bolted to the unibody. Apparently my metro had this optional rust proofing dispenser system. Lol
Lololololol
Awesome work like always brother. Keep up the good work and none hacking!
Dave from Massachusetts
Wooowooo🙌🙌🙌
Excellent video
Great stuff 👏 👍🏻 👌, what happened if you leave that problem be ????
get a longer ratchet and drive it till it binds. ive had that same issue my first time using that tool. it will make a very distinct binding feel almost like a stripped bolt.
Got it!! Thanks pal
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod you have helped me a ton. Glad to be able to contribute keep up the awesome work.
Podcast?? Email me Powerstroketechtalkwarod@gmail.com
That's the same style removal and installation tool BMW uses for N55 front seal. They can be tough to get out.
This was a great video! Keep them coming.
Thanks bud
Try using a elec dewalt 1/2 impact. It kimda hammers as it spins.
This is a PTFE seal, it's probably going to be replaced a lot more than the old rubber ones did. This is another way for carmakers to save money, while it costs $700 to $800 to change out a $30 seal.
Like the rear mains on a sbc! 😂🤣😂
Great job kid kept the good work
Thanks pal!!!🤝🤝
0:38 Talking casually while the coworker is losing his shit
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have to have this same job done on my truck
U got this
Great job!
2012 F350 over 200k mi leaking. Somewhere I read 200k was the magic number a rear seal leak.
Great job as usual. What a pain in the ass but looks good
Good luck 👍
Looks like to much work lol 😂 👍 looks great
Ford should really recall these leaking upper oil pans and admit they were wrong and use a gasket ffs .
🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Very nice!
Wow never seen any seal done like that
Ya do now
U do very good jobs man I like
Thank u brother
Shoot, my Cummins ain’t never leaked 😎. Now, break down , all the time. But never leaked 😈
🤣🤣🤣🤣
The front crank seal on my 12 valve has been puking for years. Not as bad as the rear because you don’t have to take out a transmission though
I hear of a lot of people having to do upper oil pans but usually have never done a ccv filter which i would like to think is whats causing all these upper oil pans to leak because the engine cant get rid of crankcase pressure and goes to the weakest link or links. Maybe i'm wrong.
Thhhank you....!!
@TeddyD I have a 13 with a little less than 100k miles doing my ccv box next fuel filter change. Already had to do my vacuum pump gasket bolts were finger tight thought that was an upper oil pan....
Whhhheeeew
I have a 17 with only 68k miles and I am assuming my upper oil pan seal is leaking. I assume ford does not consider this a recall and wont replace it for you?
Recall, no...but you do have 5/100k diesel warranty. Better check that start date
Very good video hope that l don't have to do that. Thanks ARod
They are proud of those seal tools aren't they.
Yuuup
Those aren't hammers hanging off the end of your arms. Use a hammer. in 20 years you'll thank me.
Just finishing up and upper pan re seal today, man I hate that rear main removal tool. It’s hard to get it to bite
Man....
I use man as a expression, I could have probably done without using it.
Sry pal
Slight oil leak with a MAJOR repair.
It’s a huge pain in the ass for a problem that should have never existed. God forbid if your trucks lifted or deleted where the dealership won’t work on it and you have to pay to have an oil leak fixed on a truck with 60K on it
Next time use 2 long self tapping screw to extract the seal it works
Naw ill pass. U wanna mess the rear cover up go a head
Anyone have links for the otc remover and installer. Went to otc's catalog but unable to find the tools by the part numbers on his tools. Thanks. Awesome video as well! Very informative.
Rotunda tools, type in that tool #
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod awesome man. I really appreciate the speedy response. I didn’t wanna have to buy it snap on lol I’m a heavy truck mechanic so I doubt I’ll ever use the remover and installer a whole bunch of times because the only 6.7 I work on is my own and my father in laws.
I feeel ya on dat
Just had mine replace just do to the oil pan leak. Rear main just had a little oil residue on the bottom. He replaced it. At 160k miles
👍👍👍
If you don't mind saying, how much did that cost you to have that done?
@@williamsantiago7303 1100 with the new oil cooler and bringing my own oil. Ford diesel tech I know has a lift at his home. Would have did it myself but I don’t have a lift yet.
No kiddin!!
Is this a common problem or just an outlier? I have a '99.5 7.3 and have been led to believe that the rear main seal is rarely an issue on it. If true, how could Ford have it so well sorted on an earlier engine, then drop the ball on the 6.7?
7.3 it's not a ford engine it's Navistar International engine
Get with snap on get that dead blow replaced, got cool red ones now.
I wish, snappy no like us
What’s the average cost of these types of repairs? Upper oil pan job? PM if I’m overreaching. I’ve got a 6.7 with 342k on the clock. Great video, thanks being thorough!
Powerstroketechtalkwarod@gmail.com
Really that’s the best that Ford could come up with for a rear main & and install/removal tool??
Guess sooo
It keeps their suppliers happy
Looks good ARod. But wow that's alot of work for a seal. What do you think might be the cause of early failure of the seal.
Shoooot i think mine is leaking now....😔😔😔😔😔
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod oh that's a bummer for sure. Well I know a great Ford Tec that can do the job.😄
Love your channel and thank you for all your input but I have a ? For u I started to notice a small oil leak looks like it’s right underneath the motor it’s a 2018 f250 6.7 what do u think it is I think I’m still under my bumper to bumper warranty I’m at 23600 miles. I have pictures if you will like to see them to give me a better answer thanks again.
Probably an upper oil pan bud. Covered under diesel warranty. Search my upper oil pan video...
Was it the pcv valve spring not letting the crankcase vent and blowing out all the gaskets and rear main? I've heard that those are a problem on these 6.7's
Cab chassis...
Hey A-rod, nice work. What kind of grey sealant is that on the upper pan??
TA-31....only 1 to use despite the wrong WSM requirement...
Mucho mucho good 🙂🙃😀
We're looking at ordering a new 2021 F450. Should we be concerned about the Powerstroke quality?
You WONT be disappointed! Since 11...i think ive done maybe 3 or 4....MAYBE.....id love for you to continue with your purchase. If you like 2 email me, id be happy to answer ANY questions you may have.
Powerstroketechtalkwarod@gmail.com
I have 2019 450. 30 thousand miles. Zero problems. Towing 15 k most of the time.
Wow
How would you get that out without that tool? Couple drywall screws and a prybar lol?
Possibly....🤷♂️
I’ve done a bunch or 3.0 Ranger rear main seals like that.
That actual seal is harder that a preachers dick. Drill it or try to run a screw in it will run the risk of damaging the crank or the seal housing. It real tight between the crank and engine cover. I’ve done what you’ve said a million times on older stuff.
For got to mention the crankshaft sensor realignment.
Not on this
Was it the lighting it looked as it the lip on the seal was rolled?
Naw was gtg
the worst part i hate taking out is the flywheel nuts and trans and transfer case its to heavy lol
I knoww
Guy I know just had his 2019 f250 6.7 just burn to the ground while driving!
WhaTTTTT
Wow! Really? Surprised to hear that about a diesel.
It's not really that hard just patience and having the right tool that's it. Everything is possible.
how much does it cost to change all the seals
U lost me at 10 mm? where is that 10mm???? Awesome Vid. Great Channel. U should probably back it up a bit in slow mo apparently at the 16:10 mark... Just for fun Puns!! KEy words Here, TECHNICIAN Not mechanic
Thanks pal
Snap on tools!
firewoodfred says "maybe a redesign by rotundra" ???
Prolly not
Is this usually a warranty item ??
I want to Order a 2021 but sometimes all these issues make me second guess buying a power stroke .
Warranty yes....
Came across this video looking for how to get to the tone wheel on this engine... Is it behind that aluminium adapter plate? Or part of the rear main seal? Service info is not helping...
...service info shld be in the crank sensor section...
35k miles on my 2017, hopefully won't have to do this anytime soon. How many miles do they usually start leaking?
Not something i do often
Yes, twas warranty....
I usually don't bash fords, but the only real fix for a 6.7L powerstroke is to replace it with a cummins
Thats the most hateful thing ive heard alll day...take that cummins back to westen chaplin vlogs cyaaa
Im gonna assume he ment a cummins from the 90s. Definitely not the newer ones. ;p
Im just sick of the warped or cracked front timing covers leaking oil...Ford keeps saying the covers were warped from Texas Heat and not letting truck cool down. So i told ford my truck leaked at 30,000 and i let it cool down. My wifes truck leaked good enough to drip at 35,000 and she lets hers cool down.
Man i did 4 in Dec.
8 in Nov...etc.
I dont know whats going but the leaks were bad enough to puddle or blow oil under truck. Feels like its all i been doing for last 3 months...lol
It aint the front cover that leaks. That rubber press-in place gasket is fine...its that damn silicone for the upper pan...
Would it kill Ford to put installation labels on the seal? You know “engine” “transmission “
Is it normal for it to have both oil pans leak and the rear main seal? I would think this is a bit excessive and would warrant a blow by check or pcv system health check... usually when a diesel is pushing oil out 3 different spots there is a reason.
Oh wow
How can I narrow down where my oil leak is coming from? I see the fresh oil on the bottom right bolt that mounts transmission to engine
Take it in and let some1 use the proper equipment to do so..
Have you seen a 6.7 have a cracked or flawed rear cover causing a leak?
Not yet!
Just had this done on a 2016 f550, the dealer replaced the seal twice followed by the rear cover
Just wondering why you used the wrong damb silicon on the upper pan ?
BECAUSE THE F-ING WORKSHOP MANUAL IS WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TA357 IS GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thats why I used the wrong "damb silicone"
Tru dat
Also are those upper oil pans a problem on all 6.7 motors. Is this usually a warranty item.
13 & up. 5yr 100k mile
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod thanks. I tell you your videos are super good. I learn a lot and you make the learning easy.
Very much appreciate you hard work.
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I’m an older guy and can’t do my own work anymore so I depend of dealer services .
I must say I was very concerned about buying a 2021 . I get nervous cause I’m on social security and can’t afford to have a new truck implode. But your videos make me more assured of the 21 model year fords.
💯🤝🤝🤝💯
I have a feeling this truck will be back with more oil leaks. How much blow-by? These engines are better than the 6.4 but will still bankrupt you.
Is there any alternative to using the installer tool? I’m currently doing my very first rear main seal on a 6.7 and I don’t have the tool… I was able to get the seal out but I don’t want to damage the new seal when installing. I was thinking about lightly tapping around the seal with a 1/4 inch extension. If I have to buy the tool then I guess that’s what I have to do. If I was doing one of these every week then I wouldn’t mind paying a few hundred dollars for the tool but like I said, it’s my first one and I don’t know when I’ll do another.
How many hours should it take a transmission shop to do the rear main seal on a 2017 f550 6.7?
Half a day.... day
yo yo! what kind of gasket maker did you use for the upper oil pan? is it the quick dry kind?
Ta31 baby!!!
Its way up in their had my hands sweating.
Do you always replace the upper pan when you do these?
ALWAYS
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod and warranty always covers it? How do you word that?
Powerstroketechtalkwarod@gmail.com
I saw a dude use an inch-long screw and knock the rear seal out in under a minute with 45degree pliers
U can do that too
Hey bud. You think a 2020+ oil pan and gasket would fit on a 2019 and older?
No, probably not..they got different upper pans now
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod yeah but is the block the same?
I duno bud, haven't had 1 apart yet
Drill 2 small holes on either side of the seal and hand screw 2 screws then gently pry the old seal out. Much quicker. That removal tools a waste of money and time.
Good thing i didnt have to buy it & get paid for my time
