This was what was called Quiet Storm Music. It was popularized by late night radio in the late 70s. “Quiet Storm” was taken from a 1975 Album of the same name, by Smokey Robinson.
Excellent choice! Like you, this was a song I heard a lot in movies, station identifications, smooth jazz radio, etc. Whenever I hear it, it reminds me of the beginning of Rocky, when he gets home, feeds his turtles, glimpses at his younger photo on the mirror and grabs a couple of ice cubes, lays down on his bed, pressing them against the wound he sustained at that night's fight. Anyway, you would probably enjoy Kool & The Gang's follow up to this song, "Winter Sadness". I appreciate your reactions!
I heard that song for the very first time in the 70's when it first came out. I was at Crampton Auditorium at Howard University on a school trip when I was in the 2nd or 3rd grade. Never gets old. The "Live" version that on the "Love and Understanding" album is really the best version there is. "Winter Sadness" is like that too! (Just told my age)
I’m probably a little older- was 8 when it came out. Left it for some time, but now can’t get it out of my head! Became a jazz fan, and this maintains my interest- up ther with Coltrane, Miles, etc
There were so many smooth Funk/Jazz fusion songs that were played on mainstream radio stations. "Rock Creek Park" by The Blackbyrds, "Sun Goddess" by Ramsey Lewis, "Always There" by Ronnie Laws. Those songs were beneficial to being more eclectic.
I heard it alot in Rocky 1 when he came back from a fight in the beginning of the movie. He was in his apartment talking to his pet turtles and fish and he put this jam on as he was practicing how he was gonna talk to Adrian, gets distracted at his childhood picture, goes to the fridge to get ice cubes, lays on the bed and rests as he puts the ice cubes on his wound from the fight. The keyboards high pitch starts to come in as he lets out a deep sigh. Never forget that and when I found out what the song was, I immediately started !listening to it. That scene in Rocky 1 to me feels like 50% blues and 50% fun vibes but I could say the blues hut me more cuz of how the movie plays out as a Cinderella story. Go and watch Rocky 1 you'll hear this tune and I highly recommend watching the whole movie itself if you have not seen it. Its motivation for all of us no matter what in my opinion
Please listen to C.I.A.: Zack de la Roca, KRS One, and the Last Emperor. Chris Isaak: Wicked Games. The Animals: House of the Rising Sun. Extreme: More Than Words. Sade: Sweetest Taboo. Always you have great reactions.
THIS IS WHEN KOOL AND THE GANG WERE STILL NOT DISCO YET. THEY WERE SILL JAZZ/FUNK. THEY ALSO HAD WINTER SADNESS. JUST AS FUNKY.
The LEGENDARY Iconic Kool and his Gang ❤❤

Will Smith used this song for Summer Time
Yess
LeBron James and that cell phone.
Will and Jazzy Jeff added some nice lyrics, but the backbone of Summertime is this instrumental!
@@tonycoltrane1311That was back when Will was referred to as The Fresh Prince.
Thank you so much. That was tighter than ten toes in a sock. You got it jammin JT. Keep up the great work. Smooooth

1974... Viva la 70's. Stone groove. Love how all the instruments come in one after another.
JT you take me back to my deejay days thank you for reacting to many genres of black music
Happy Sunday beautiful shining star! You pick one of my favorite songs of all time! Love it so much!
So many samples from this Masterpiece
Robert kool Bell killing it on bass.
They changed their style. See "get down on It" and "take my heart" in 80's. Or this is another Band with the same name.
Back in the 70’s they were more a jazz/funk band!
Smooth and genuine.
This song was part of Rocky I's score, check it out.

Put that smoke alarm back on the wall, it will save your life.
Mono sound? Is this serious? Do you have any idea how much you disrespect music?
