  • In this video, I demonstrate the steps required to change the spark plugs in my 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. This is also applicable for the Honda Passport, Isuzu Amigo, Isuzu Rodeo Sport, Isuzu Trooper, and Acura SLX engines.

      R Flores Thanks! I can't say I've done anything special to keep the engine compartment clean, but I've never really taken the vehicle off-road, so that probably helps. It's also never had a major fluid leak, so no oils have ever been flung all over the engine compartment.
      I agree with you...Isuzus are cool vehicles! I'm always glad to hear from another enthusiast. Thanks for watching!

    My '99 Trooper with 120k miles now begins to start roughly then it is fine, and I never changed the sparkplugs will do them now then coils if the problem remains. Nice vid! Overall I can't complain much about my '99 with a few expected issues over 22 yrs e.g. replaced one alternator, and batteries it is still tight structurally - no rattles or squeaks, good power & a slight trans leakage. Sorry to see them discontinued in the US and hard to find Isuzu-trained mechanics.

    I changed two oxygen sensor and engine light not on no more but the gear box won't turn in park or reverse now. I was wondering if you would know something about it. It's a 2004 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 . A 4×4

    Hey, I think I used a tiny bit too long of an extension on that 6th cylinder and now in can't get it out. It's tight on the socket. Any advice on how to get this extension out of the cylinder?

    That sound ever go away. I have a 2000 and I just started to get that weakness in the engine. I hear that sound, making it feel sluggish on my rodeo. Changed Coils, Spark Plugs and the fuel injectors. I keep getting the same noise.

    Do Isuzu rodeos have spark plug wires that can be changed? Asking as the Trooper does and are easily identified... Don’t see it on the rodeo

    I have a 2000 Rodeo (may00). We found that it only likes the NGK brand of spark plugs for some reason , if we don't use that brand it tends to have issues.
    Also in regards cylinder #6 coil & boot, the difference that I found and confirmed is that the cereal number for the boot is different then the other five boots and on this boot there are two ridges (one on each side), so visually its not like the others. I tried measuring the lengths and their is not much difference (1/16 to 1/8) from the shortest to the longest, so I wouldn't really recommend it.

      +Dawn Rivera Dawn, I have heard the same regarding the NGK plugs. Some people swear that they have used multiple brands with no effect, while others like you have said only the NGK plugs seem to work. I say, use whatever seems to work best in your vehicle.
      Regarding the boot on the #6 cylinder coil, you are correct - I think the boot is virtually identical to the others. I believe the difference is the coil itself, which sits a little bit lower in the valve cover to clear the brake booster (if I remember correctly....it's been awhile since I fiddled with this).
      Thanks for watching!

      Hello , regards to coil packs or coils, I have a 2004 Isuzu rodeo base 3.2 manual , well I bought it used with 157xxxx miles for about 1800 , 200 taxes title ect .. well I have a Verizon hum that I plugged up to obd port it tells you some info like gas mpg and vehicle dionostics ect , well it was throwing a code for egr valve ,and others wat to expect from a salvage vehicle , and I went ahead popped the hood looked around and noticed one of the coil packs coil, cylinder #3 was missing a bolt so I went down to the local hard ware store , and ended up buying the bolts for the coil and it was like 1 for 4 bolts washers ect, well I went ahead and replaced cylinder 1 2 3 new bolts well then I drove home , after words I did it in the parking lot after I bought them well on way home my hum sent me a text message saying misfire forgot code , well then I went back to the engine bay well I then noticed that cylinder 1 coil was very very odd fitting well I ended up pulling coil #2 and noticed a difference right away well the dealer or rinky car lot either replaced the plugs and kinda did a half a** job and I assume they pulled all the coils out and changed plugs who knows when.. but well I called my local AutoZone and asked how much a set of new coils would be ? Well then I asked is there supposed to be a different coil size or something???!?!!? Well turns out that cylinder 6 takes that odd coil , my first thought was maybe it came outa a different vehicle , since I have a Honda passport driver fender same thing essentially, but yep 5 are the same and cylinder 6 was supposed to have that coil! And I just changed the plugs and cylinder 1 plug was not even tight it was just hand tight well it idled fine , didn't ever think about it but , now knowing that when I changed the bolts to new ones well that coil pack was so tight it was making connection to the plug bug none the less if I never would have changed the bolts I would have never got the code and never would have found the coil was in wrong location so yes definitely different!! Thanks for putting these awesome vids of your rodeo and I've been learning alot and finding new problems , watching , fyi the egr is a clogged tube in intake I pulled my throttle body off and tried pushing a metal rod and it's clogged up bad! My next project and I literally watched your video on cleaning intake and that's how I found out!!! Thank you Matt Payne!

    WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT ENGINE???!!! It's WAY TOO clean!!!!!! ;-)
    Seriously, what do you use to keep it so clean? Pressure wash? Let me know, it looks GREAT!

    • @mattpayne4087
      @mattpayne4087  9 років тому +1

      Paul Mooter Haha, thanks Paul! Though my engine bay has never been too terribly dirty (the vehicle is a street queen), it hasn't always been so tidy, either. As I've been doing projects, I try to wipe down whatever area I can get to. I've used Engine Brite degreaser, WD40, and even some automatic transmission fluid to wipe things down. The biggest improvement was when I removed the intake manifold, because I was able to scrub the intake really well by hand and then hit it with a pressure washer. I've never used the pressure washer inside the engine bay, though I know some people do so. I'm just worried about water getting into too many places that it shouldn't be (the computer, for instance).
      I'm sure if I did any offroading at all, things would not look so clean. So, wear your dirty engine bay as a badge of honor!

    • @paulmooter9797
      @paulmooter9797 9 років тому

      ***** Hmm, transmission fluid? Wouldn't that have a tendency to collect dirt? I used to spray down all my engines but now with these newer cars (not that my 2000 Rodeo is new!) I too am nervous I'll do something that will prevent it from starting again. Thanks.

    • @mattpayne4087
      @mattpayne4087  9 років тому +1

      Paul Mooter Actually, transmission fluid works great - it has a lot of cleaning detergents in it, and you can pretty much wipe all of the residue off with some dry rags, so it doesn't leave behind a sticky film and attract more dirt. I've heard of guys using transmission fluid as a cheap engine flush because of its natural cleaning properties - supposedly you can drain your motor oil, fill up the engine with transmission fluid, run it for a bit, then drain again and refill with clean motor oil and it will help clear the engine of some gunk. Some people swear by this procedure, but I've never been desperate/brave enough to try it.
