Fun story, me and my friend played in D&D adventures league, we got another one to join us for a session. She played a sorcerer, understood the system to some degree but was still new. Obviously a bit quiet, but still she played and during a combat. she was very good at dealing damage and doing chip damage. Buuut didn't understand that some spells have AOE's. Another player was in a melee fight got downed, and she cast Ice knife on the person that just downed her allie. With 5ft, she crit. Ice knife explodes. This was a level 2 rogue that was next to the enemy getting hit.

Right? The GM of my last Pathfinder campaign was great in the sense that he would let you do what you liked (or at least attempt it, for things needing a skill check)...but it was firmly drilled into us that Actions Have Consequences. The rogue in a short-lived campaign did not understand this. They tried pickpocketing anyone, including me, the one giving us a side quest, etc...oh, and in one session, peeing on everything. The GM (different one) ruled that my Storm Herald barbarian using the lightning call ability to tase him was a free use.

I thought punching Greg was B.O.B.'s thing. But other than that, yes, 10/10 this is exactly what Bodger is like.

@@rathma9210 They channel a well of inner power known as Ki to do so. They can do this effectively. However they typically still use weapons such as Quarterstaffs.

I've always wanted to play D & D but never had friends who liked it or played at all. I'm 36 now and married with kids, still holding out hope that one day I'll be invited into a game somehow. I've literally had the desire to play for over 20 years.

I am not very versed in dnd myself, but I recon searching for a dnd discord/UA-camrs who play dnd might help in your quest. There are also probably plenty of subreddits talking about the same topic. So gl and I wish you well on your journey!
well you can find a group on discord servers and other social media apps but they mostly consist of people between 14-25 yea ik the age range is wide but if you find a cool group to play in go for it its fun and great

I remembering a DnD story about how a cat became a member of the party. As in an actual cat joined the table , was accepted to be a druid stuck in wildshape permanently and played as such in game.
How quickly we forget the OGL and WotCs desire to ensure that literally no one else can create DnD.
Idk, all my friends switched to other tabletop systems and turns out D&D isn't even the best.

Anyone *can* play D&D, but there's a myriad of better TTRPGs to choose from... D&D only gets so much attention due to the amount of money spent on marketing and the prestige of being the first in its genre.

What I really like about D&D is that it can adapt to a lot of profiles.
The only Bob's in my games of DnD are when our DM has not prepared enough NPC's. Handy for knowing who has important info. This is Dalion the village blacksmith, this is, erm, Bob. Sometimes, David.

Read the rules. They removed race mixing, all you can do is play a pure race with an altered appearance.

@@christophersavignon4191 you mean the One DnD playtests that have been going on? Cause theyre just playtests and will be changed based on player reactions. The current 5e rules have half-elves and half-orcs, dont worry those rules are still the official rules.
And for the "they removed race mixing", no they didnt. The playtest had no named option for mixed races, but instead a tool to create a character with parents from different races. You could actually say they increase the amount of race mixing you can do (half elf half gnome, for example). The rules from the playtest got fans upset, cause yeah their traits were only one race but they said theyll listen to fan reactions.
Wait till One DnD is actually a thing before saying the rules have been changed. The playtests are specifically to see what players want to change, so its weird to be angry about it already

Pathfinder 2e does everything that D&D does but better, plus its devs aren't money-hungry scam artists like the D&D's devs.
The best and truest part about the skit is, "just ask the DM" because anyway half the rules don't work and you still gotta check with the DM for half the things you want to do XD
Played D&D for years, decades to be more precise. Off and on, but always seemed to have a finger in it somewhere. Though recently our group gave Pathfinder a shot and we are having a blast. Seems that it's just the spirit of the game and not the particular brand that is what the entire thing is about.
The Novelty of Hamish playing as BOB was fun, but its great to have Ben back again!

I've been playing D&D for over 20 years. It''s the basis of my personality. I wasn't smart in my teenage years, especially in English. One day my teacher asked the class what the word haste meant. and i was the only one in my class who knew. It was then that I knew that D&D expanded my knowledge of the world beyond anything I've ever dreamed of. D&D is more than just a game system. It teaches mathematics, law, English, imagination, art, creativity, sociability. government, nature, religion, and so much more. Anyone who plays D&D is just better at nearly every aspect of life, believe that.

I included my dog in a campaign, she was awesome. DM gave her an 'adorableness distraction ability' (-4 to save, on failure do belly rubs for 1 round ;-) ) and the ability to fetch any (non-special/legendary) item once per hour from any enemy. Saved our mage and healer many times! ANYTHING can play D&D 👍 (did have to save her as well a few times, always got everyone pumped! Don't mess with our dog! har!)

I recommend if you want to play and learn d&d under no circumstances give any money to Wizards of the west coast, their corrupt organization will do whatever it can to take down small content creators and sue or straight up steal money from them, instead obtain the information using other means, and never call it D&D if you plan on streaming it call it something else and make sure to change just enough of the ruleset and monster names so they can't go after you, because if you don't have a large channel like VLDL they will and already have taken small streamers to court or claimed their channels on twitch and UA-cam and had them taken down

I can still remember "Basic D&D" which came in a box, and only had the choices of Elf, Dwarf and Human, with Fighter Magic-user and Thief beyond that. Then, over time there was the booklet, "Gods, Demigods, and Heroes" followed by a Monster Manual, but not until the Dungeon Master's Guide and Players Handbook had emerged. Then it got really difficult, but in a decade or so, you caught on. Nowadays it takes longer to learn how the various options of the game work, than the edition lasts. I just stick to "Advanced D&D" and don't worry about the rest.
Bear in mind that the company that own DND tried to scam their whole player base just a couple of months ago.
All I can think about is them struggling to defeat frogmen and their nets.

I have played DnD since 1985...but then have switched to Pathfinder few years ago when the 4th edition came out. No regret.
Aaaaand literally anyone can also play some other kind of pen & paper RPG. This is not limited to D&D. There are tons of other systems and worlds out there to explore.
and you can always homebrew if existing systems go over your friends' heads XD
