Fun fact: SpongeBob has technically been employee of the month for over 374 months in a row. That means SpongeBob has been at the Krusty Krab for over 31 years! But since sea sponges can live to be 500 years old, SpongeBob probably won't be retiring any time soon.

As a kid, when Pearl said her complexion will be altered and people would mistake her for a planetarium if she brought SpongeBob, I might’ve stretched the subtext too much and initially assumed that she meant SpongeBob’s association with fry cooking, a job that involves a lot of grease, would physically ruin her complexion since fried food and grease can often cause acne, thereby making her look like a bunch of stars in the sky. 😂 But no. She just meant SpongeBob’s unusual, quirky, and a nerd which is more mean spirited.
It’s funny how SpongeBob can go from not being able to move a straw from a drink to moving a whole anchor attached to him. I imagine his strength is dependent on what the plot demands. 😅
SpongeBob is still kind of a kid, it’s not always consistent. Sea sponges can live for centuries, which would make him still incredibly young by those standards.
Through my high school years, I went to 4 different proms. One of them was when my best friend, Sydney, made a Batman themed prom sign and asked ME out cause no one else wanted to take me out. Sydney made my day.

Stephen Hillenburg always wanted Spongebob to be an adult with a child like view of the world. Nickelodeon wanted to make him a kid so that he could connect with kids more, but Stephen Hillenburg refused, compromising by having him go to boating school instead. Spongebob is suppose to be in his early to mid twenties, but his birthday was also in 1986 (according to the wiki), and this episode aired in 2000 so he was about 14 at the time if this episode is as chronological as our airing dates. I would believe Spongebob is aging along normally if it wasn't for Pearl being in the show, cause she's canonically stuck between fifteen and sixteen years old since she had an episode where she had her sixteenth birthday (Squeaky Boots is probably her fifteenth). If we follow the timeline parallel to ours that means Spongebob is actually younger than Pearl, yet Pearl is still a teenager while Spongebob is an adult. Unless we're gonna argue that Spongebob matures faster than Pearl, this gets really confusing really fast. People are also talking about Band Geeks and in my little research, I found out it was the last episode of Spongebob to air before 9/11. Make of that info what you will, cause it's easier to process when what I read above.
The timeline is weird but he’s definitely intended to be an adult there are episodes where you see adult fish that went to school with SpongeBob so clearly he’s an adult. The boating school students are all teenagers.
I never went to prom or homecoming. Never understood the thrill of it but the girl I was dating at the time went before and I figured I'd surprise her by going. She told me she wasn't going to go so I canceled my ticket only to find out she went without me. Dumped her after.
The facts in earlier episodes he isn't even able to lift up a stick with two marshmallows connected to it but it's somehow successfully able to keep a brick of solid lead perched on his head all day, I can't tell whether to be surprised or intrigued.
19:54 Based on the number of photos of SpongeBob on that wall, he's been working at the Krusty Krab for at least 3-and-a-half years, and it's still Season 1.
Mr. Karbs & Squidward grossly underestimated how much of a f*** Spongebob gives about his job.😂 And Squidward’s ego is so fragile, he would go along with Spongebob’s antics in a heartbeat!🤣 Having Employee of the Month with only 2 employees really is crazy, though. I would always imagine Mr. Krabs announcing HE’S Employee of the Month just to teach them both a lesson; and, now I realize that doesn’t make much sense because he’s the employer. Even still, those two went a liiittle ballistic; serves him right.🤣
Never got a prom, Moved states, met a girl in about a year after I moved, and we dated for a while on and off. she had her prom coming up so she asked me to go. She called me the late afternoon of prom and said we're not going and we ended up just taking the limo and some of her friends and their dates around and went to go eat and went to Ripley's museum after then just hung around my dates house. Was actually really fun.
23:00 Fun...but kind of sad fact. 'Mad as a hatter' to mean crazy is a bit more _literal_ than you might think. Early hat makers used a process involving mercury. Gradual mercury poisoning causes insanity before numerous health problems and death. Ironically, the more popular hatters went mad and died faster since they made more hats. It was known that the crazier the hatter was, the better his hats probably were.
Fun fact, the music they use for most scenes that have chaos happening in is called "grass skirt chase" it's the best thing to come from SpongeBob aside from another one that's just as infamous
10:10 If I'm not mistaken, in season one, SpongeBob had an ID card with his birthdate on it. I believe he was 14 years old in episode one. And the creator decided that instead of putting him in a normal school, he'd be in boating school.
Aw man... I think Alicia needs to watch all of SpongeBob til the SpongeBob big bday blowout special before she could watch his theories without spoiling
Prom was separated into junior and senior prom with seniors only allowed for the first part. I picked up my bestie and met up with the other bestie right when senior prom started, went in, danced a little, took pictures, and I promise you I ate as much food as I possibly could. We left before the juniors were allowed in and honestly it was perfect. Maybe 50 or so people were there for the senior portion but when we left the line was massive. We got ice cream afterwards and my dumbass forgot that I was driving so I drove my friend back home and then myself back home with one hand and the AC on high so my ice cream wouldn’t melt on my dress. 🎉 10/10 prom. I’m an introvert and my friends were super sweet about me not wanting to stick around when it got chaotic and loud.
I ended up taking my sister’s best friend (also my best friend’s sister) to prom while she was pregnant with her ex’s kid. I didn’t have any romantic inclinations towards her, but I wanted to give her more pleasant memories of her last year of high school. We just had a fun time sitting around a table talking and telling riddles.
There's one store near my workplace that seems to be a normal grocery store... But it has an "Employee of the month" poster which is a picture of the same cat who is guarding the entrance... Heh
I just remembered! Once you finish season 1, you might want to check out Worthikids's album Bikini Bottom- each song is based on an episode from the first season! there be some bangers on that album
Fun Fact: Despite Squidward's name including the word "Squid" he is in fact confirmed by the creators to be an octopus. The only reason Squidward has 6 limbs is because the animators thought it would be too burdensome and difficult to animate 8 limbs.
SpongeBob is one of those characters where it’s not that definitive whether or not he’s a kid. He works at a job and goes to Boating School but then the movie tells us he’s a kid. It’s weird.
I think he is supposed to be a 20 something guy. Living alone. Working for the first time. Still in contact with his parents but don't waiting to live with them. It kinda makes sense Thou might be projection on my part as I was living like that on my own 20s
Spongebob is intended to be an adult, but Nickoloden wanted to make him a kid to be relatable to the audience. So Hilenberg compromised with them by making Spongebob go to boating school and such- at the end of the day though he IS intended to be a full grown adult. It's the inverse of how cartoon children tend to be more mature then they'd usually be for the age they are.
I went to prom 'cause I never went to anything else throughout middle and high school, so I figured I might as well. Just met up with friends, didn't go with anyone. It was fine. I had a better time at the unsanctioned grad bonfire thing they did a month later that was just a bunch of underaged drinking (I think some people had some party drugs too, Atlantic Canada's just kinda trashy like that) and dudes on ATVs in a field at night. I didn't do anything, and I have complicated feelings about that whole night, but at least I made more memories talking to people than I did with the prom.
People have counted the number of months and pointed out how many years that is but...remember this IS spongebob's world we're talking about, there could be some weird Patrick level explination like, 'a month is 12 days' or something. Or they're in a weird time loop situation.
4:42 Couldn't go to prom since it was cancelled back when COVID was a big thing (or at least semi big). If I could've gone, then I probably wouldn't have since I saw prom as a longer homecoming and I found those boring after going to two..
Proms in Germany are either a new thing or one for the elite students. Some (my class) did a day trip with the class, but not a prom. But i heard of two proms, for the Elite classes. People can correct me.
Through my high school years I went to one prom and it was my junior prom. Since I’m on the spectrum I wasn’t asked to it since to me this is around when the direction of interest shifted to jocks, muscleheads, players and bad boys. I did get a date to one which helped in the confidence department and it was Viking themed so dressed in purple and gold.
No super secret code phrase this time?😢 Well I never went to prom because it's not a thing here, but it looks fun. If they like an adult version I'll be down
I went to prom without a date but I was pretty okay with that. My stepdad gave me a corsage and my friend's dad drove us (myself and friends) there. Unfortunately, I didn't really have a good time because a toxic person in our friend group was complaining about her boyfriend not paying for stuff (FYI he was poor and worked part time to support his family). She kept dragging me away from other people to complain about him, I even gave her my corsage hoping it would calm her down but it didn't. She then broke up with him while everyone was dancing. I'm still sad I didn't get to enjoy it. I had low self-esteem so the school put my name in for something called the Cinderella Project. They gave me a dress, shoes, jewelry, and a purse for free. I felt so pretty but my family couldn't afford the ticket though. Our counselor paid for my prom ticket out of her own pocket because she really wanted me to enjoy prom. So yeah...thanks for coming to my Ted Talk :D
COVID prevented my senior high school class from having a prom. Instead, we had a small outdoor luau party a couple weeks before graduation, which was fine. I think the main reason it was seldom enjoyable is because my group of friends have not seen each other physically in months. We took as many photos as we could and had to get creative when trying to fit 10-12 people on camera
I was very lonely and reserved in high school just like I am now. So short answer is I never bothered with my prom. Only people I knew in high school are the people I hang out with now.
I went to my senior prom. I didn't have a date, but they had an arch that everyone had to walk through so people could get their picture taken, couples together and singles alone. A female friend who also didn't have a date ask me if I would walk through with her because she didn't want to walk through alone, so I did, and we danced all night together.
A group of friends convinced me to go to prom with them, I went and didn't find out until about a week later that they were trying to get me and another girl together since we were the only two in the group who didn't have a date.
My school was too small and conservative for a typical prom, but its equivalent was a nice dinner near the end of senior year. The wildest part is that I was the one unexpectedly asked by a classmate, who went on to an Ivy League college and is probably a billionaire now.
4:42 I DID GO TO MY PROM!!! My friends and I decided to all go together and our parents even pooled money together to get us all a limo :D!! Wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be but the food was good :))
No i didnt go to prom. I had no friends so i just stayed home and played video games. I hit max level in world of warcraft that night so that was memorable :)
I worked the concession stand at prom. It was great. I got to chat with everyone and see all the people, but I didn't have to go into the actual room where the party was, with the shitty dance music too loud and so crowded you couldn't move. And I didn't have to worry about trying to find a date. And I also helped raise money for the science club too.
I didn't go to prom my junior year cuz I didn't care, wasn't planning on going senior year either. One of my friends randomly messaged me asking if I was going to prom, I said no, she asked if I wanted to go, I said not really, then she straight up asked me if I wanted to go to prom with her and I'm like "oooohhhh, ok sure" and it was a very nice time 💀
I skipped prom. I'm not a fan of parties or big social gatherings; I'll go if it's something important like a wedding or something, but not something as superficial as a glorified school dance.
Where i live there is no prom night, we have graduations and we have a party but it's not a dance with a date kind of thing, so we bring family and friends to it and we just have a good time... probably for the best none of that exists here haha
If I had to assume Spongebobs age, Id say late teens to early 20s. Especially considering in the 'Help Wanted', Patrick mentioned a woodshop class, implying he and Spongebob are done with High school at tge very least.
I got stood up at the prom, so I feel pearl. was sobbing like her at the beginning just at prom night. Had good friends, though, that were there for me
I only went to prom once in my senior year. I was essentially bribed with Monster Hunter World to go. I knew the venue where the prom was, and I wanted to sneak out and walk around the mall a bunch sknce it was across the street. I was bored and I couldn't even help myself to the buffet because the food sucked too
5:53 i know right? Racist people are such idiots by hating on people all because of skin and culture differences. Like it shouldn't matter how different we are.
I didn't have a prom. My school didn't have one. I ended up bingeing the Prom Night franchise on what would've been that time, instead. Good memories, decent series.
4:13 @psxweeb2 I say when she gets to season 6 it’ll be a good time to introduce her cause I bet around that time is when she’ll kinda fall off. I predict she’ll stop enjoying it as much in season 5 and in season 6 she’ll drop the show. (That’s just a prediction though and not at all 100%, I don’t know Alicia)
Yeah I went to prom, i asked out a girl in probably the cringyest manner possible but she said yes, then she ditched me mid prom for her friends so I went and danced by myself with other random folk
Might edit this later, but yeah I went to prom. The friend I wanted to ask already had a date, and unknown to me one of my friends asked me but I thought it was a joke so I went alone. Found out she meant it when I got there pff. Was able to dance with them though so it was a fun night.
When I went to my senior prom, I jokingly referred to myself as "thicc" and my girlfriend's best friend immediately retorted with "that's not a good thing" and it still stings to this day.
I went to an Engineering Highschool that was like +90% Guys, so no, there was no prom. And things aren't looking my different now, studying electrical engineering at university.
I didnt plan to go to my prom but my bestie had nobody to go with and begged me to go. We wanted to enter together for laughs (everyone in our school was convinced we were secretly dating and we thought we'd get a laugh in) but the school wouldnt let us. I ended up having more fun at after prom cus i just ended up sitting outside most of the actual prom.

I was home schooled but the home school group I was apart of did have a prom, but I didn't go
COVID prevented my senior high school class from having a prom.
Alicia missed the chance of saying how Spongebob "Buries the competition!"
29:53 - 30:11 "these bars won't hold me forever... hey there's only like two of them"
A group of friends convinced me to go to prom with them, I went and didn't find out until about a week later that they were trying to get me and another girl together since we were the only two in the group who didn't have a date.
We don't even have Proms here in my country
I skipped my prom
Didnt feel like going
My school was too small and conservative for a typical prom, but its equivalent was a nice dinner near the end of senior year.
The wildest part is that I was the one unexpectedly asked by a classmate, who went on to an Ivy League college and is probably a billionaire now.
4:42 I DID GO TO MY PROM!!! My friends and I decided to all go together and our parents even pooled money together to get us all a limo :D!! Wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be but the food was good :))
s1 e12 the prom ep is very chaotic edspeacilly with the sponge that spongebob dummy is just as chaotic as the real thing🤣
Went to prom but I was.... not sober. Very very not sober.
One of my friends randomly messaged me asking if I was going to prom, I said no, she asked if I wanted to go, I said not really, then she straight up asked me if I wanted to go to prom with her and I'm like "oooohhhh, ok sure" and it was a very nice time 💀
I was a Covid baby during Highschool not literally but it took up the last two years so cancelled all graduation stuff any outside trips, prom, etc.
I was in co-op, my whole childhood. I have a learning disability.
I skipped prom. I'm not a fan of parties or big social gatherings; I'll go if it's something important like a wedding or something, but not something as superficial as a glorified school dance.
Where i live there is no prom night, we have graduations and we have a party
but it's not a dance with a date kind of thing, so we bring family and friends to it and we just have a good time... probably for the best none of that exists here haha
If I had to assume Spongebobs age, Id say late teens to early 20s. Especially considering in the 'Help Wanted', Patrick mentioned a woodshop class, implying he and Spongebob are done with High school at tge very least.
You know how many people, even popular, don’t actually go to their prom?? Me and my friends spent prom watching Robot Chicken 😂
1 I didn't go to prom cause I don't do socializing
2 I get anxious when I can't see the time
I got stood up at the prom, so I feel pearl. was sobbing like her at the beginning just at prom night. Had good friends, though, that were there for me
I only went to prom once in my senior year. I was essentially bribed with Monster Hunter World to go. I knew the venue where the prom was, and I wanted to sneak out and walk around the mall a bunch sknce it was across the street. I was bored and I couldn't even help myself to the buffet because the food sucked too
Totally me well I had a date till she got back with her ex 😅 4:07
5:53 i know right? Racist people are such idiots by hating on people all because of skin and culture differences. Like it shouldn't matter how different we are.
8:32 Slenderman to Slendy Jr😂
I didn't have a prom. My school didn't have one. I ended up bingeing the Prom Night franchise on what would've been that time, instead. Good memories, decent series.
4:13 @psxweeb2 I say when she gets to season 6 it’ll be a good time to introduce her cause I bet around that time is when she’ll kinda fall off. I predict she’ll stop enjoying it as much in season 5 and in season 6 she’ll drop the show. (That’s just a prediction though and not at all 100%, I don’t know Alicia)
Hands up for all the Senior Prom Kings and Queens in chat
✋️
The dummy is sentient?
Do the sponge sponge, oh do the sponge 🎵🎶
Yeah I went to prom, i asked out a girl in probably the cringyest manner possible but she said yes, then she ditched me mid prom for her friends so I went and danced by myself with other random folk
10:00 chat is crazy lmao he likely meant her long list of demands but they just assume Krabs means boning. Some people
Might edit this later, but yeah I went to prom.
I went to prom. No date though. Still had fun.
29:59 to be fair that's just a cartoon thing. I think wider bars makes it easier to animate or something.
Squidward cleans the windows sometimes like episode 1
18:41 This is my favorite episode of the 1st season
