  • In this video, Greg and Erik try out a Ripper 37 sawmill blade and in Greg's words, "it cuts like butter" - of course he's a data guy and needs more data on more than just one blade, but so far, it's looking good! Erik is a BIG fan and can't believe he ever used anything else. So...if these make milling easier and last longer, we are probably sticking with them - we will keep you posted. But, six douglas fir logs and no need to change a blade...it's looking good!
    Did you know we are building a barn out of wood that we are milling on our own sawmill?! If you haven't followed along with our BARN Build, make sure to check out that series in our playlists. We finished the slab this summer and are on a pause while we mill all of the lumber needed for the barn build. We have A LOT of milling in our future.
    Here is the video where we share our barn plans. Our plans are from @BarnGeek We are excited to build one of his beautiful barns!
    • Why Do We Think WE CAN...
    ***We are also so excited to have completed our sawmill cover enclosure (sawmill shed). Definitely check out our Sawmill Playlist to watch it all happen. We have shared the process of building our sawmill cover from the very beginning. We have a Woodland Mills HM130 Max sawmill and we live in North Idaho. The sawmill cover / sawmill shed is vital to continue milling for our barn build in the winter months, but it will also be a great way to keep out of the sun during the summer months, and of course all of the rain, in between!
    Here is a link to the video that shares the sawmill cover / sawmill shed build from start to finish:
    • Sawmill Cover Build - ...
    Here are the specs on the sawmill cover / sawmill shed we built:
    3 posts in the front
    4 posts in the back
    Overall dimensions are 15 feet wide by 36 feet long
    Longest beam is 28 feet
    Front part of the lean to roof is 11'9" and back is 8'
    It will have a 3 :12 pitch
    Posts and beams are going to be 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
    We have shared the entire build!

    Great to see the progress. Look forward to seeing the verdict on the Ripper 37 blades. "If you don't have data, you're just a person with an opinion"
    Thanks for bringing us along. Hope you had a great vacation

      Thank you, Mike! Vacation was much needed and a lot of fun. Bo spent a lot of time swimming.
      Greg took a lot of Science classes in his past, so he’s skeptical until he sees the data. But, so far, he has a positive opinion of the Ripper 37.
      Hope you are enjoying the time change as much as we are! 😁

    Dear sir, it's always great to see you and Eric and the family working together. Thanks for the BARN TEASE? SIPS and timber frame, old meets new! Stay well and be safe.

      Thank you, Todd! Definitely old meets new and it should be a good marriage! We’ll be sharing in the next few weeks. Thanks for watching! 😁

    Hi guys, glad you like the *#Ripper37* blades and you can see, and feel, a difference over your old blades! You should see *double the number of resharps* over your old blades if you have a suitable setup. Just keep in mind that the setting point needs to be at least 50% down the tooth due to the extra depth of hardness of the teeth. Keep up the good work and happy milling!

      We are definitely impressed with your blades!
      I’ll let my blade sharpener know about the sharpening tips.
      We have only heard good things regarding the Ripper 37s and are happy to have found them. Thanks so much for watching and checking us out! 😊

    Have you used a ripper 37 sawmill blade before? Curious to know your experience.
    Greg mentions that we have some changes coming to the barn, but we aren't ready to share yet....any guesses what the change is? We will be definitely sharing soon, just waiting on some things. Hope you enjoy this video! 😁

      Howdy y’all- yes, I bought five of the 7 degree and five 10 degree blades last year. I was really impressed with the 7 degree in oak. The 10 degree were a bit disappointing but after I sharpened them they were doing really well. I bought another box of each before Christmas and haven’t had a chance to use them yet. Somehow I missed this video but got caught up. Take care and God bless

      @@TheBeardedCarpenter Hi, Paul! So far I’m impressed with them besides hitting a rock frozen in the bark and hitting a log stop. But, that’s user error 🤣

    Woke up this morning with a plan in my mind,
    Gonna mill my own lumber, gonna work that grind.
    Got my chainsaw roaring, and my mill set up right,
    Turning logs into lumber, by the morning light.
    Milling my own lumber, it's a labor of love,
    From the forest to the workshop, it's like hand in glove.
    Every cut and every plank, tells a story so true,
    Milling my own lumber, it's what I love to do.

    I found that stacking an stickering pine the very center of the pile would mold there needs to be good air flow threw the center ,started stacking mine on a trailer would pull it out in sun shine during day or place a fan on it if there was a damp period of time

    • @ourdreaminthewoods
      @ourdreaminthewoods  Місяць тому +1

      Hi, Todd- I definitely have problems with mold and maybe more likely on pine( not sure).
      I put some away in the rain and that was a mistake.
      I’m still new to this and we’ll see how this next batch turns out. 😁

    I'll start here - The Rippers are the blade of choice for our 130-Max. I even bought a cam for my sharpener and the re-sharpened blades seem to keep going and going. I have proven time and again the the best Metal detector is a Brand New Ripper 37. I've tried both the 10 Deg and 7 Deg. The 7 deg will push through a White Oak just like you saw that pine. I'm a believer. (There's a Monkee's song in there)

    • @ourdreaminthewoods
      @ourdreaminthewoods  3 місяці тому +2

      Hi, Mike, can you tell me about the cam you got for your sharpener. I don’t have a sharpener but I would like to pass it on to the guy who does mine.
      So far I have found a rock and a log stop😁
      I think I will order more Ripper 37 for my next I need more blades. Thanks for watching, oh, and that’s a great song!

    • @mikefay2145
      @mikefay2145 2 місяці тому

      @@ourdreaminthewoods I have the Woodland Mills offered sharpener (not the pro). It came with a generic cam for sharpening blades. I did order the specific Ripper Cam which follows the blade profile. I also have upgraded the cam for the Woodmizer SilverTip blades which I got from Woodland miles. (Haven't tried that yet) If your guy who sharpens your blades is using the Woodland Mills setup - the new cam will make a difference.

    Always cut the longest material you need first , the short stuff can be cut anytime , you only get long boards out of long logs 😅

      Went back and forth on cutting those logs down into two pieces. Even though I need some 16 foot Timbers, there wasn’t enough there to complete what I needed so I knew I needed to get more logs. The lengths of the new logs will be less waste and more efficient. Hopefully. 🤣
