I have the same mill , and to me it’s impressive it did so well on that 24 inch log. The HM122 is designed for 22 inches. Too bad about the new blade hitting the post. That never happens with a dull blade LOL. Anyways , just one of those 2x4’s will just about pay for a blade considering the prices nowadays at the box stores. If you could even find one of comparable quality.
We actually finished the log with the same blade. Got a couple of wavy cuts but we have a jointer, planer and table saw. Either way they will work for a rabbit hutch. It only costs $8 to sharpen a blade so we got at least 30 blades out of that log, lol
I love all your videos I just wish you would put more on shows more about what you're doing I give you a lot of credit it is very hot outside I live in Florida so I know have a day
I hit a log stop the first week I had my mill, also while milling a too-large log. Since then, anytime I have to turn the blade guard out of position, I use wooden log stops. I don't go back to the steel ones until the guard is back in correct position. Haven't hit a log stop since.
I've hit one a total of 2 times ever since I compare the measurements of the log stops heights with my blade height before each cut I make. So I haven't hit any more either.
Yep... I was hopping up and down in my seat. Another oversized log wrecked another blade because needing to swivel the guard out of the way of the log and thus out of the way of the post.
Good to see you'll again, could you make the log stops out of wood? And I'm getting older to so if you got motorize feed on sawmill I'd be pulling it in low with lawnmower. Lol
Woodland mills has a new blade tension kit they are sending out free to HM122 owners. Looking at your tension t-handle I can see you haven't gotten yours yet. You might call them and ask about it.
Just to let you know, I spoke with Woodland Mills and they are doing this tension kit for customers that had there tensioning rod strip and not work correctly. Mine works great so no reason to mess with it. I appreciate you looking out for us though, thank you.
You are a hard-working young lady. OK, you have a couple men to help out too, but I figure that you are the one doing all the hard stuff. lol. Good job. Hope things are going good for you and your loved ones.
Imagine going to pay full price at Home Depot for the amount of lumber you could cut in one 8 hour day with this thing. Hell, I couldn’t afford just the 2x4s it’s crazy. The only reason you need the wood inspected is so everyone can get their money, it’s no secret this rough cut is thicker and straighter and stronger than that light bent up Home Depot crapola.
Thats one great thing about Ford, they got theee best A/C there is. I bought a used 2004 F 250 about 9 years ago and the A/C still works great. It now has 172,xxx miles on her. Today's lumber prices, that sawmill is a good thing to have. That is a lot of hard work and especially all the extra work and time in filming it for us.
I am surprised at the low horsepower. I have the Frontier OS31 and a Kohler 14 horsepower and that is barely adequate. If the motor ever fails I would definitely up to at least 20hp. Also. You need to get that mill up to crotch height. All that jumping up and down adds to the workload and time. My trailer was expensive but all the jumping up and down and crawling under just made me realize it was worth it. Good luck and eat your Wheaties!
Hi, I saw in this episode that Eddie accidentally cut through the metal support post (or he didn't). Just wondering if it's worth while to replace those metal posts with a wooden ones to help saving the blades??
I've ran into mine 2 times now. Destroyed one blade doing it. The other I was able to sharpen it. It'll take awhile to pay for them but I purchased woodland mills sharpener & tooth setter combo. If you've careful sharpening them you can get 5-6 sharpening out of a blade. After about the 2nd or 3rd sharpening you need to check the teeth settings & set them if required. If set properly they clear out the cut better allowing the blade to travel through the cut easier.
Just a quick question. Earlier in your video the mill head appeared to be shaking. Is that normal or is that because of the size of the log and what the log is or what you think maybe the cause? I’m looking to buy one of these mills here soon and since I’m new to using a mill I thought I would ask. Thanks
It does shake sometimes but not all the time. I think it is a combination of a dullish blade and the size of the log. Our mill wasn't made for the size logs we put on it. If we had known we would end up with such large logs we would have gotten a larger mill. But that being said we absolutely LOVE our mill even after having it and using it for over 2 years.
@@ThirdTimeAroundRanch Thank you. I’ll keep that in mind when using mine. I’m looking to get an HM126 here soon. I’m gonna take a guess and say all sawmills can do that. Hey thanks for responding. It is greatly appreciated. God bless
Didn't yell, just cringed.. :) It also looks like your water is dripping on the blade guide rather than the blade itself..some was making it to the blade but it might not be enough. It would certainly help the blade last a bit longer, as long as no more log stops are hit. ;) I've got an HM126 coming, hopefully next month..can't wait to put it to work!
Dear oh dear ,, you havent learnt yet,,, I dont sleep so I get to watch hundreds of vids ,, prob the best operator is ,, Sawing with Sandy ,, he has cutting to size a fine art,,
Big log heavy slabs put shims as you go along so you don't bog blade down and you should never lean on a band saw like that if you have to then something is wrong let it cut
Funny thing, yesterday was my Birthday and I still didn't take the day off. I seem to have forgotten how to be lazy for a day. I'm kind of getting tired of myself working so dang hard. LOL

Thank you!
Wow, that's alot of lumber. Enjoyed the personality/ humor
Interesting to watch. Thanks for showing the good as well as the not so good about using a sawmill.

Great work, what a differance a blade makes, how is the garden doing? love all your video's,
Thank you Mike, the garden is looking fabulous. I can't believe how quick everything is growing. Already harvesting cucumbers!
I dig the music.
You know your saw is cutting good when it sings Like that
Very enjoyable video, good music, and you’re cute, btw
I'm considering one of these mills, is it normal for the head to be rocking back and forth that much? 9:30
It does not normally do that, I think the blade was dullish. It is a great mill with wonderful customer service. We are super satisfied with it.
@@ThirdTimeAroundRanch good to hear!

I for 1 ---some say put a hunk of hardwood in place of that metal stop
It's on the "to-do" list :)
You should consider charing you lumber. It's an old Japanese trick for resisting rot bugs and stuff.
Wouldn't you end up getting the black char all over everything?

Is the sawhead shaking as you are going through the log? It looked like it was moving side to side constantly? Surprisingly cut that bigger log.

Hope it's less humid where your at.. Love milling but I can do without the heat and humidity. Have fun and build lots of things!
I cut an inch of hose and put it on the copper pipe to get water out into the blade rather than the stop.
