0:39 Keep Your Eyes Peeled 2:53 I Sat by the Ocean 4:53 The Vampyre of Time and Memory 7:15 If I Had a Tail 9:55 My God Is the Sun 12:11 Kalopsia 15:03 Fairweather Friends 17:22 Smooth Sailing 19:34 I Appear Missing 22:09 ...Like Clockwork
This album was mostly written shortly after a near death experience Josh Homme (lead singer) went through in a hospital. Really makes sense when looking into the lyrics. Amazing reaction as always!
i appear missing is easily their best song, probably top 10 all time for me. their live performances really emphasizes the bass, which i love so much, especially during that unraveling ending
This is easily my favourite Queens album. I love Rated R and Songs For The Deaf, but the emotional impact from the song writing here is next level for me. This album came from a place of suffering for Josh Homme, he died on the operating table during a complication with knee surgery. They managed to revive him, but the situation messed him up a lot, he was bed ridden for 4 months post-surgery. Dude almost gave up on music entirely, he felt like a piece of himself was missing. It makes the album all the more powerful knowing the story behind it, especially making I Appear Missing and ...Like Clockwork hit even harder.
Mah God!!! It's happened! What an outstanding album you chose. Since the first listening I still can't fix my heart from those guitars, poems and Homme's voice
Great choice Smags! This and Songs for the Deaf are pretty much tied for me 14:28 If you really want to do more Nine Inch Nails, Pretty Hate Machine and The Fragile are superb albums
I got really excited when I saw that you were listening to this and I'm glad you enjoyed it! QotSA is my favourite band and I would definitely consider this their most coherent and frankly best work. I love each and every song, all of them adding to the themes and emotions portrayed through the album with really interesting sounds. Also if you want more queens recommendations, their newer albums 'Villains' and 'In Times New Roman...' continue along the vein of this album whereas earlier stuff like 'Queens of the Stone Age' and 'Rated R' tends to be heavier and close, which I love. The in betweens of the two you reviewed, 'Lullabies to Paralyze' and 'Era Vulgaris' toe the line between the two and are my favourites of the bunch.
Totally agree on Lullabies and Era. Love the old stuff and the new stuff, but that middle period of experimentation and weirdness (and Vultures) is probably my favorite.
Thank you for posting this. I have seen them live four times. Every time has blown me away. Sir Elton John contributed vocals and piano on “Fair Weather Friends”. Now all I want to do is listen to this album on repeat today. Any QOTSA album you pick to react to is fine with me. I’ll check it out.
i love the way you react to these albums and the way you describe how they make you feel, makes for entertaining content. like clockwork is my favorite album ever, and it's not even close. queens of the stone age released an album last year that has a kinda similar vibe, In Times New Roman
My man, I'm glad you enjoyed it, it's the best album from them in my opinion. I would strongly recommend a hidden jem I found about a year ago, Villagers of Ioaninna City's album "Age of Aquarious". It's magical, mystical, powerful. You'll love it.
My favourite album ever by my favourite band ever! This album really got me properly into music, treating albums as significant pieces of art. Also, the music video for the album is one of the coolest things ever.
I properly discovered QOTSA when I saw them live back to back with Nine Inch Nails in 2014 just after this album came out and let me tell you, I was absolutely shaken to my core after that, instantly became one of my fav bands of all time and this album changed my life, I was in a pretty miserable place back then and it just hit me the right way. Trent Reznor also features on another of their songs, a bonus song called Era Vulgaris off of the album of the same name, that album…. I love it, but it’s super weird and pretty abrasive, has some beautiful moments in it too, but unsure what you’d think of it. It would be cool to see a reaction to it regardless, with the bonus tracks because they released the album here in Australia with them as part of the full album.
I saw this tour on the Melbourne leg, it was a fucking amazing show. Which among many great moments included The Wretched with the entire piano intro played by Trent under a spotlight. Unforgettable show.
@@towarzyszbeagle6866 That was the one I went to! His little speech after getting overwhelmed after The Wretched was amazing to see and then he just followed it off with “and now here’s a song about the end of the world” I wish NIN would tour again, specially Aus.
I appear missing, and the majority of this record, is basically the lead singer Josh Homme reflecting on a near-death experience he had whilst being stuck in a coma He felt as though a piece of him was missing once he finally woke (pieces were stolen from me, or dare I say given away) Glad you got to enjoy this record bro, Josh Homme and company definitely cooked with this one
Let’s fucking go I’m at work and can’t listen but you know the post-work eats + Smags video is going to go crazy. One of my favorite albums, got me into QOTSA, great car album too
Hell yeah we’re getting high on the ranking. Rated R and their Self-Titled are easily their next best for me, the self titled is far closer sounding to Kyuss which btw you should also check out bc that shit grows on you
Dude this band never misses. The reason they are so great is whatever mood you are in that day there is a QOTSA album to go along with it. The first two albums are raw but have some bangers on there. I would recommend Rated R as the next QOTSA album you check next.
Holy fuck yes!! Thank you! Please do Era Vulgaris or Rated R also by QOTSA too (I'd maybe even throw in Villains too, purely to see your reaction to Feet Don't Fail Me), but for albums not by QOTSA, Trench by Twenty One Pilots is a must, same with The Fragile by NIN too
This one is definitely their most melodic, and the start of a trilogy they continued with Villains and recently ended with In Times New Roman. Each Queens album is different and they all stand out in major ways, but keep the same elements that make the band great all the way through. The only one I would call a little subpar is the debut (gonna get roasted for that) but you can’t go wrong with any of their albums really, such a consistently great band. I’d recommend rounding out the trilogy and see where it takes you!
You really should check out some live performances of I appear missing, specifically Letterman. For me it has become the only version I can listen to. Also the music videos might get you more into the mood of the songs.
@@smags1082 yeah I’m not getting those notifications for some reason. Maybe because I’m using through browser and not the app? I’ll download and see if that fixes it
Honestly QOTSA is one of these artists where you could do their full discography and enjoy each album. Same league as Radiohead, Blur, Elliott Smith in terms of creativity and artistic choices.
Awesome man, This album was awesome!!!! Highly recommend All Things Must Pass By George Harrison, RAM By Paul McCartney, Graceland By Paul Simon, and The Undertale OST, that would be interesting!!!
Please check out please please , Them crooked Vultures, basically queens of the stone age with John Paul Jones of led Zeppelin!!! That and, Iggy Pop - Post pop depression
Don’t know if anyone else has recommended this album, but you NEED to listen to Them Crooked Vultures self-titled album. They were a super group consisting of Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age/Kyuss, John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin and Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters/Nirvana
QOTSA is my favorite band ever, and their generally agreed-upon best works are Songs for the Deaf, ...Like Clockwork, and Rated R. They're my favorites too - ...Like Clockwork for when I want to feel all the feelings, Rated R when I'm manic, and Songs for the Deaf when I'm anywhere in the middle. None of their other albums are to be slept on though, Lullabies to Paralyze is a big standout in my personal opinion
One thing I've noticed is that you seem to really like guitar solos, so maybe check out Baroness (either The Red Album, Blue Record, or Purple) they have awesome harmonized guitar solos and instrumental sections you might vibe with!
you haven't reacted to other albums from the glow pt2 trilogy(1it was hot we stayed in water,3 Mount eerie) you should check them out man, i like watching you listen to albums
Hey its been a while since I’ve commented some recommendations, but I have some albums I think you would really like. You should react to “King Night” by Salem “The raven that refused to sing” by Steven Wilson And lastly “ZUSHI” by Dean Blunt I would greatly appreciate it if you reacted to any of these, keep up the good work.
In 2011 Josh Homme momentarily died on the operating table and woke up in a coma for 4 months. That's what this album and especially the song, 'I Appear Missing' is about lyrically.

Yes that’s what I meant !!

PEAK ALBUM. just saw these guys live 2 days ago and it was incredible. Almost cried when they played I Appear Missing
Florida let’s go! Agreed, one of the best rock concerts I’ve ever seen
i was at the same show, i screamed when they started playing it
I saw them in 2014 for the Like Clockwork tour. Immediately turned me into a huge fan.
I got to hear I Appear Missing in New Zealand and I will never forget it.
Shoulda cried pussy
I Appear Missing might be the best Queens of the Stone Age songs and one of my favorites songs ever
0:39 Keep Your Eyes Peeled

I wholeheartedly agree
Rated R gotta be next it’s where they truly found there sound
Definetly check out Kyuss sometime. Josh Homme was their guitarist.
And Them Crooked Vultures as well.
One of my favorite albums. For me its easily the best QOTSA album
Yesss! Do the rest of queens soon! Era vulgaris or villains next!
Era Vulgaris is so good!
Villains is quite an interesting choice given all the other albums they have, mayb It just wasn’t for me
@@loganvf8718 yeah I should have recomenden era vulgaris and lullabies, but I actually do love villains
Huh?? They have 2 better albums in the debut and Rated R, why would you recommend two weaker ones first even tho I do like Era Vulgaris
There's a live version of 'I Appear Missing' as performed on Letterman that you must check out. They extend the outro and it sounds incredible.
QOTSA's magnum opus in my opinion, and If I Had a Tail is the groove that's always in the back of my head.
Mah God!!!
