I think the worst thing about this whole AI controversy going on right now is not the fact that they are using AI but in fact how they are using it. If they were only using AI for concept art or rather to help brainstorming how to improve already green lit media I don't think anyone would complain, but its the fact that there is a noticeable push to try and fully transition at least 2D art and images into AI slop. Even I have noticed before this whole controversy that some off the loading screens from prestige rewards just feel off and uncanny; like they generated the image before hand and had some underpaid artist to fix the lettering on the signs, especially the loading screen you get at prestige 5.

Problem with this controversy is how easy people can use it to accuse anything of the game to be bad when it could just be done by actual people but instead of holding them accountable, they blame it on AI. I can already believe about the loading screens and calling cards being AI generated but the other aspects of the game (like voice acting and map design) are ones I kinda feel skeptical of the claims.
I fear that if people are not careful, it will muddy the legit problems of AI generated art.

1000% that's why I tried to only include the more definitive claims and breakdown some others that don't have merit IMO. If you have any idea what goes into building a 3D environment like a map, you'd know that AI is absolutely no where near capable of that yet. Maybe bits and pieces like textures, or concept art but there's so many different teams designing the layout, doing the blockout, modeling assets, playtesting, lighting, etc that AI isn't able to do it all (...yet)

the gobblegum image of the hand just looks like someone poorly photoshopped the gums in, they all have the same shading which doesn't fit into the lighting. Not sure why they couldn't just render it normally? It doesn't take much longer than asking AI to do it.

If cod can use AI to create the game, I can use AI to create a review.
Why AI is Bad for the Gaming Industry
In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has become a buzzword in the gaming industry. The technology has been integrated into numerous aspects of game development, from procedural content generation to AI-driven playtesting and beyond. While AI offers numerous advantages in terms of efficiency and cost-saving, its increasing role in the creation of games has raised significant concerns. These concerns revolve around the potential for AI to undermine the creativity, quality, and player experience that gamers have come to expect from modern titles. As the industry moves toward a future in which AI plays an even more prominent role, it's important to examine the potential drawbacks of this technology, particularly in its overuse by large companies.
The Loss of Human Creativity and Craftsmanship
The heart of any great game lies in the creativity and passion of its developers. Game design is a highly specialized art form that blends storytelling, gameplay mechanics, world-building, and player interaction. Human creators draw upon their unique experiences, artistic vision, and deep understanding of gaming culture to craft memorable experiences. However, AI, by its very nature, is devoid of this creativity and emotional depth.
AI can generate content, but it lacks the nuance, intention, and soul that comes with human-designed worlds and stories. While procedural generation tools can create massive game worlds filled with content, these environments often lack the depth and personality that a game crafted by human designers can have. AI can create infinite variations of terrain or procedurally generate cities, but these creations feel hollow compared to those made by skilled level designers, who carefully place every rock, tree, and building with intent. The result is a world that might be vast but feels generic and uninteresting.
A prime example of this is the difference between older games like Grand Theft Auto or The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and more recent open-world titles that use procedural content generation. While the latter games may have expansive maps, they often feel lifeless because the AI-generated content lacks the careful thought and unique character that comes from a human touch. Game worlds designed by human creators are full of purpose, small details, and Easter eggs that provide players with a sense of wonder and immersion. AI, on the other hand, can only mimic patterns and replicate what it has been fed-resulting in worlds that feel more mechanical than magical.
      The Decline of Player Experience
At the core of any game lies the player’s experience, and this is where AI’s influence can be most detrimental. AI is often used in game development for procedural generation of levels, characters, or missions. While these tools can speed up development and reduce the costs of asset creation, they can significantly detract from the player’s enjoyment. Procedural generation, for example, can create massive amounts of content, but this content may feel repetitive, random, or poorly balanced.
For instance, AI-driven procedural generation in games like No Man’s Sky has sometimes resulted in environments that are visually interesting but lack meaningful gameplay. Without human oversight and testing, AI-generated content can quickly become monotonous or fail to provide engaging challenges. In contrast, human designers meticulously craft levels to ensure they offer interesting gameplay, progression, and narrative cohesion. A world built by an AI system is not likely to anticipate the player's desires, goals, or emotional journey in the same way a human-designed game can.
AI-driven systems also fail to capture the subtleties of human interactions and storytelling. While AI can create procedurally generated quests or characters, these systems are limited to algorithms and patterns. They cannot create the kind of emotional depth or character development that human writers and designers can. Players interact with characters and storylines that have been designed by human writers who understand how to weave compelling narratives, create memorable dialogue, and craft emotional arcs. AI may be able to produce basic dialogues or follow predictable narrative patterns, but it cannot replicate the intricate, meaningful interactions that come from human creativity.
      Quality Assurance and Playtesting Pitfalls
Another area where AI’s involvement in game development can lead to problems is quality assurance (QA) and playtesting. In the past, testing a game before release was a time-consuming but vital process, where developers would rely on human playtesters to identify bugs, glitches, or balance issues. These testers were able to give feedback not only about the technical stability of the game but also about the overall experience. Human testers can offer insights into whether a game is fun, whether it engages players, and whether it feels intuitive and polished.
AI, while capable of identifying technical bugs or glitches, cannot replace the nuanced feedback that comes from a human playtester. AI tools may run simulations to check for errors, but they cannot replicate the kinds of experiences players will have in the real world. Playtesting requires empathy, intuition, and an understanding of how players interact with the game in unpredictable ways. AI cannot provide this level of insight, and as a result, games that rely too heavily on AI for testing often end up being released with significant bugs and gameplay issues.
The increasing reliance on AI-driven tools for testing, combined with a rushed development schedule, has contributed to the growing trend of games being released in a broken or unfinished state. Many AAA games, such as Cyberpunk 2077 or Fallout 76, suffered from significant technical issues at launch, despite heavy use of AI tools. These issues were largely a result of poor playtesting and insufficient quality assurance. If developers continue to prioritize AI-driven efficiency over human input in testing, we are likely to see even more games released with critical issues.
AI and the Deterioration of Innovation
AI’s growing role in game development is also stifling innovation. Game design is an art form, and much of the innovation that has shaped the industry has come from human ingenuity and experimentation. In the past, game designers would push boundaries, try new gameplay mechanics, and explore uncharted territories. These innovations came from the creativity of human developers who were not constrained by the limitations of algorithms.
AI-driven content generation, while useful in some areas, often limits this kind of creativity. If developers rely on AI to generate levels, characters, or even entire narratives, they may find themselves repeating familiar patterns rather than pushing the boundaries of what games can be. AI’s reliance on existing data and patterns means that it often produces results that feel derivative or uninspired. This lack of innovation is a significant concern for the future of gaming, as it threatens to homogenize the industry and reduce the diversity of experiences available to players.
      The Price of AI-Driven Games
Finally, there is the issue of the price of modern games. As the use of AI in game development increases, players are increasingly frustrated by the high cost of AAA titles. Many gamers are paying upwards of £70 for a game that often feels unfinished, buggy, or lacking in the depth and polish they expect. While AI may help reduce development costs, it doesn’t necessarily translate to a better product. Developers should not use AI as an excuse to release subpar games or to justify charging high prices for a product that has not been fully tested or optimized.
Gamers expect quality for their money. If AI is saving time and money in development, players should see that reflected in the final product, not in the form of rushed, bug-filled games. Instead of relying heavily on AI to speed up production, game developers should focus on creating well-crafted, polished games that are thoroughly tested and designed with care.
      Conclusion
AI has the potential to revolutionize many industries, including gaming. However, its increasing use in game development, particularly by large companies, presents significant risks. From the loss of human creativity to the deterioration of player experience, AI threatens to undermine the very qualities that make games special. Developers should be cautious in their reliance on AI and remember that at the heart of every great game lies the creativity, passion, and ingenuity of human designers. AI should be used as a tool to assist human creators, not replace them. If AI continues to take center stage in game development, the gaming industry risks becoming a hollow, formulaic, and soulless experience for players. Ultimately, the future of gaming should prioritize human craftsmanship and creativity, with AI serving only as a complement to, not a substitute for, the artistry of game development.

And by no means is this a defense for them using ai. I'm nearly setting the fact that every day people just don't care about this stuff. They don't think about it twice, it doesn't bother them like it bothers the rest of us who are dealing with it because well, we're chronically fucking online.
To the people who don't care about any of the AI news, who just picked up this game, started playing it, and don't watch videos about it, they won't know about this.
And the only real way to hold a media company responsible such as game publishers and developers it's just a simply not consume their media.
but that's mission fucking impossible with Call of Duty players. Because they're going to read this in the first thing that's going to come to their mind is oh so you're basically saying if I don't like it don't play it. I mean yeah. Essentially. How do you think consumption of a video game works? By playing it. So if you want to hold these media companies accountable and for them to take your concern serious, then you need to not consume their products. Otherwise expect nothing to change. Which will most likely happen because simply not consuming a product is mission impossible for this fan base. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the next game is 50% to 60% ai generated. And people are still going to buy it. Because as much as you people say you care about the developers and their jobs, you really don't. I mean people talk out of their ass when they say this stuff but you people really really don't. You care about the developer's jobs all of a sudden where was this care when they were sexually assaulted by their higher-ups? Oh that's right, you guys were complaining about sbmm and that the got 'the wOkE iN mY cOd!'
Because in reality, you guys don't give a shit. You're just mad that they didn't create the game you want it. None of you give a damn about any of the people on the developer team so for the love of God stop pretending you do. Otherwise take a page from the OverWatch communities book, and put your money in your connection with your mouth is. Stop consuming the product. If you actually give a damn about the developers like people say they do, then do what the OverWatch did and actually boycott the game by not consuming it. For as long as possible, not just 2 weeks. That's not going to accomplish a goddamn thing.
But seeing as how you guys didn't do just that when that news came out, I know you people are never going to do it because you people don't actually give a damn about the developers. Which is why I say stop pretending.

The issue is that the studio is cutting corners by cutting out actual developers. I agree that on the surface some calling cards looking weird isn't the biggest deal, but once character performances are stifled by AI voices, code is riddled with bugs because a computer made it, and there's less and less real devs there to make decisions because the rest were all laid off, it's going to impact the entire game

  • @imaginarymenageriemanager6303

CoD hasn't been actually good for 7-8 years now, why bother? Genuinely asking, because who the fuck cares if Activision is using AI slop to make CoD? CoD is a dead franchise. Its numbers are poor and its only held up by the fact that enough kiddies are addicted to battle passes and crap, so profits stay relatively high.

    • @ReplayMode
      @ReplayMode  29 днів тому

It's numbers are still leading the market. COD is very far from dead playerbase-speaking, and even if it was dwindling, I enjoy the game and want to see good things for the series and the developers that make it, that's why I care.

If they retire, what are you left with nothing, just like how some actors die, or some actors retire like Tony stark Iron Man? Robert Anna Jr. stopped playing him to do doctor doom. I would love to see Iron Man. Meet at least Robert dunny Jr. Meet another Robert Downey Jr., mainly. I also would want to see that is because I love Iron Man. And that's the only thing I really care about in Marvel, and they ruin Marvel for me. I'm still gonna want watch it, and I'm still going to Read the comment, but knowing that Iron Man is actually dead. I don't know who I can freakin hate for the script. But I do know one thing I don't like robert downey jr, because if he wanted to make a garbage meme, that's the reason why he stopped being an iron man
