    Double-stacked 1911s and 2011s are not the same. Not all 2011s are double-stacked 1911s, but not all 2011s are double-stacked 1911s.
However, only the most discerning of 2011 aficionados could tell the difference.
2011’s have been around since the late 80’s with the first one being the Para-Ordnance P14-45.
Double-stacked 1911s chambered in 9mm are all the rage in the gun world right now, and rightfully so. They're laughably easy to shoot, have great ergonomics, and are generally sexy.
In the world of Double stacked 1911s, there are 3 levels.
Mass-produced or what I call Entry Level, then there's Semi-Custom, and then Holy smoke, that's expensive as hell, which is another way of saying Custom.
But what sets the Springfield Prodigy apart from the rest?
Join us as we explore its stunning aesthetics, remarkable shooting performance, ergonomic design, and a plethora of features that defy its entry-level price point.
Join us as we uncover the elusive "X Factor" that sets the Prodigy apart, leaving you with that unexplainable feeling of satisfaction and curiosity for more.

Found a 5” last Mother’s Day weekend for $999 and couldn’t walk away. Had issues for the first 100 rds with FTF. Took it home, racked the shit out the slide about 1000+ times, lubed it up and took it back out again next weekend. 0 issues. 0 issues ever since with about 800 more rds through. My issue was the disconnector and cerakote needed to be worn down and then it works flawless and shoots so soft and accurate.

@@dashcammer4322 don’t disagree, however to be the cheapest 2011 at the time I surely don’t mind idly racking the slide a bit. It’s essentially a break in period for a mass produced (MIM components) 2011.

I’m so glad that UA-camrs are putting videos out about this pistol being good. When the pistol first came out I didn’t hear any good about this pistol but in my experience I love this pistol haven’t had a lick of a problem from my prodigy, now sure every person to each their own but 10/10 for this thing I love it I recommend it to everyone.

  • @pistolgrips

I love mine. Zero issues with this gun and I have thousands of rounds through it. Compete USPSA and Steel Challenge with it twice a month.
Glass smooth frame to slide fit: slightly less than 3 pound trigger pull after break in. I have done nothing to this gun, except keep it very well lubricated and clean it after ever use. It is comparable to the few Staccatos I have had the pleasure to shoot. That said, in many ways, it is not a Staccato. One of the drawbacks? The Hex optic it is designed for is a garbage. I have had three of them and returned all. Springfield customer service is excellent - they actually refunded in full two of those. I’m a fan of the vortex venom so I bought one, knowing it would fit the hex plate footprint. The only problem is that being designed for the Hex optic, the Vortex wouldn’t fit on the pistol itself. I had to file off about three or 4 mm off the front of the Vortex to make it fit. Super tight fit now.
As for the MIM parts, I could care less. I’ve never had an issue with a MIM . When something breaks, I’ll replace it just like I have replaced the recoil and firing pin springs.
My daily carry is a Wilson Combat EDCX9, so it’s not like I won’t spend money for quality. The Prodigy just works for me.
I just finished a four day tactical course. On the last day, we had a “fun hour” shooting long range with our carbines and pistols. I was consistently hitting steel at 200 yards with the Prodigy and had two hits out of 10 or 12 tries at 420 yards. I didn’t think I was capable of that. I know the pistol is, and that’s no bullshit.
    I love my 4” Prodigy.

That's pretty awesome. 👍🏼👍🏼 I've got a friend that bought one, 1st week of availability, maybe 1st day? Sent back to Springfield twice, had another gunsmith check it twice and still doesn't run like you or many of the others are saying. Kind of a bummer for him obviously. That sight thing is the biggest issue in my book. My eyes are crap, I've used vortex, holosun, and trijicon, and unfortunately 😅, trijicon works best for me...otherwise I'd be looking for a used prodigy myself. Good to hear you've gotten good quality and really run it it tho. 420 yards. Freakin hero! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

i was kinda stoked the first time i picked one up. But as i played with the one in the store it had issues locking to the rear and was finicky on slide release over empty mags. Im sure it was just that gun, as ive read a lot of good reviews, but it kind of poisoned me to them. The final nail was they had a Wilson SFX9 right beside it for 400 more... easy choice at that point for me at least.

I have one of the newer ones. Two things I’ll say, I run iron sights and the optics plate and set screw for the rear sight were NOT loctited from factory. I went to the range and towards the end my sights were drifting off of my gun about halfway. The other downside is the internals are all heavily cerakoted. I overlubricated mine and dry racked the slide and the cerakote will rub off and turn into a thick black sludge, you can wipe it off from there and when it starts to really gunk up you can break it down and clean it fully, and rinse and repeat until you don’t want to anymore, or until the amount of cerakote coming out isn’t gunking up your slide anymore. I’m about 1,000 rounds through mine and those are the only two issues I’ve had

Dropping like 1800$ then waiting 20 weeks vs spending 1100-1200 and having it in your hands right then or within days is a massive deterrent of the platypus for most. If I’m dropping over 1000$ on a pistol I have enough other guns to play with already I’m going to drop the extra little bit and customize the platypus exactly how I want it since I have to wait anyways and get not only the better gun but something a little more special to me. But not all shooters are like that I’d argue probably most just want to simply buy a gun off the shelf and shoot it which the prodigy does fine.

Break the Prodigy in using 124gr or above for at least the first 500 rds. don't know if its true, but I figured why not try. I also racked the crap out of the slide before I shot round 1 through it. Cleaned and lubed it up multiple times before first range day.

I cleaned it oiled to the moon and back and it still consistently had issues unfortunately. I sold it during its hype for more than I paid.
If they have addressed the stove pipes and feeding issues in general now I wouldn’t mind having one again. I loved the grip and overall appearance of it. Shot well and trigger was better then my Kimber 1911’s I’ve had over the years.

I've been on the fence about eventually getting either, and even though I figured I probably would eventually, I have yet to come across either of those platforms that attracted me enough to say, "Yes, I want that gun."
Until now. For some reason, seeing that gun and Mr. Noir shoot it, I immediately wanted that gun. Maybe it's because I already know I want the Echelon, and I'm seriously considering the Hellcat Pro for my first carry pistol? Either way, I really want the Springfield Prodigy.
I also appreciated his brief info on 1911s and 2011s, because I still don't fully comprehend the differences. So thank you Mr. Noir, for another great video!

I have 2 Staccatos, a C2,(EDC) and a P. I have 8 Kimbers in .45 ACP and never thought I would have a 2011, then I started researching them. i bought the C2 first as the Prodigy wasn't even out yet. The 1911 was the gun that John Browning developed over 100 years ago, always a single stack magazine. the 2011s were developed for a double stack, thereby holding more ammo. Check around at some ranges, they may have a Staccato or a Prodigy that you can shoot. Try them out. Good luck be safe.

@@StarDriver1 I was looking into the Staccato P, but I held it at the gun store the other day, and while holding it, my thumb couldn't actually reach the slide release lever. I'm not disregarding the gun, but that was an issue for me. I'd consider the compact version, but I'd prefer a full frame for my first 1911.

When I first saw this, I said the MAC from Tisas was better since I had one and shot it. However, all I had to go on was basically all the bad reviews on the Prodigy. Now that I have a 5" Prodigy and just came from the range, Colion is right! The Prodigy was much better than the Tisas except for when you use the duramags that came with the Prodigy. I switched the duramags with my staccato mags and the Prodigy went like butter! However, I can tell that my RIA Ultra Match Pro is still better than the Prodigy. If I rank what I have, I will go with Staccato, RIA, Prodigy then lastly the Tisas.

you want to know the difference between a Staccato and the Springfield, buddy bought a Springfield had it for a month didn't matter wet dry wouldn't run in fact he cleaned and lubed it and it seemed to make it worse. Had to send it back to Springfield to have it retuned and he is still having problems here and there. Had another friend that bought a staccato P cheapest one they had mind you that's about 2600 out the door and didn't have one hick up, didn't clean it for about a thousand rounds still ran great. Cleaned it still no problems about the only issue was getting the sights on target, it had adjustable sights just couldn't get them to shoot right finally got them almost on target and it seems to shoot ok but to me there is a diffrence but nothing is perfection you can have issues with a 190 dollar gun you can have issues with a 4000 dollar gun tools a tool.

The best entry-level 2011 along with the Appolo 11 Once you replace the internals on the Prodigy you are good to go. Mine went from failures with every mag to flawless. MIM for a 2011 is a poor idea, especially in the extractor and disconnector. The parts go out of spec easily and need to be tuned regularly. The difference between the DS1911 and a 2011 is generally the price, but I know what Colin is getting at. My Hayes Custom shoots like nothing else out there. It is difficult to qualify, but it is like handling a cloud, a very smooth, precise, hand-built thunderstorm.

If your not familiar with these holsters, they are below the waist band holsters, they deploy quickly and I can comfortably carry a full size weapon using a G3, it’s a leather holster with kidex type retention and for me that G3 works great.
