On this video you will see the two "NO-TOOL quick fixes" that may work for your car!
1- Check the BTSI fuse (#25 in the fuse box) BTSI means Brake Transmission Shift Interlock which is a safety mechanism to prevent the Transmission from going into gear without the brake being depressed. A blown fuse there will keep the gear shifter from unlocking from the park position.
2- Apply some spray lubricant to the linkage at the base of the shifter lever (under the shifter boot). This may help the linkages to operate more smoothly.

Thank you for this video! I wish my auto expert dad was still around 💔😢
My husband passed almost 2 years ago so I'm a solo gal having to figure out these things and I don't know what I would do without YT and all you car experts🙏 to come to my aid. I have a great mechanic but he's not close by where I live and in SoCal, we really need reliable mechanics!!
So, thank you CubManCan ☺️ and I subcribed and will be learning even more! if I may add, I learned recently that lubricant vs. WD-40: when it's lubricant needed, it makes a huge difference in the long run! Much smoother because of the silicone where WD-40 is more of a solvent, by comparison - I keep both on hand and I learned from another YT channel that the lubricant works better, longer where lubrication is concerned...I made the mistake of putting WD-40 on the track of vertical blinds; now they're stiff and don't move back and forth easily which was my original intention. I wish I'd known that lubricant "hack" sooner so now I have to start over... Anyway, I just wanted to throw that out there. Thanks again for everything and will be watching and learning from all your videos. 🙏💗

Thanks for Watching! Great Points Made! Often WD40 is good for cleaning and loosening, but in most cases a lubricant should be used later if WD40 is used first. Thanks for that good info!

Fantastic videos. Watched 2 of your videos on the BTSI bypass (drilling hole to manually reset the solenoid - you did two- and now this one. I've watched a lot of car repairs videos and done a lot of repairs (some major), your technique is most enjoyable and informative. Please keep up the excellent work. If it's not too much to ask, will you please buy a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and do some videos. I have one of those and I could use your help. 😁 Bill

Thanks for Watching and the Nice Comments. I enjoy doing these videos. Thanks for the idea on the Cherokees! I've owned two of those in the past. Will see what I can do. Any particular areas of concern on the Cherokee? Thanks Again!

The wire under the shift boot goes to your Traction control system and not to the shifter. The activate trac control is the little button under the silver knob on your shifter.

    HEY GUYS,
REMEMBER! SAFETY FIRST: MAKE SURE THE VEHICLE IS STABILIZED BEFORE STARTING ANY MECHANICAL WORK- ESPECIALLY ON ANY SHIFTER ISSUES!
I received a very good Question, So I reposted it here - Let me know if it helps, or needs more explanation - Thanks for Watching!
    QUESTION:
What if your car is stuck on reverse, sorry for the late comment my car won’t start and it’s stuck on reverse, got any advice appreciate it
    ANSWER:
Thanks for the Comment! SAFETY FIRST: MAKE SURE THE VEHICLE IS STABILIZED BEFORE STARTING ANY MECHANICAL WORK- ESPECIALLY ON ANY SHIFTER ISSUES!
It sounds like the shifter cable is not operating correctly to get the transmission into PARK or NEUTRAL so the starter will engage. This can happen if there is damage to the cable or the backets that hold it in place, or the grommets at the attachment point at the end of the cable where it meets the transmission. The grommets are not real difficult to replace (about $10 at AutoZone), but be very careful to lock your wheels with the parking brakes and use wheel chocks safely, and if you have to raise the car up, use good jacks and jack stands and use them properly. If you need more info, please post a new comment (not a reply) so it is easier to notice and reply to. Thanks Again - Good Question!

SAFETY WARNING! BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN WORKING ON ANY GEAR SHIFTER ISSUES! MAKE SURE THE VEHICLE CANNOT ROLL BY LOCKING THE PARKING BRAKE AND USING CHOCKS ON THE WHEELS - AT A MINIMUM THE REAR WHEELS SHOULD BE PROPERLY CHOCKED BUT ALL 4 WHEELS CHOCKED IS BEST. WORKING ON A LEVEL PARKING SURFACE IS ALSO CRITICAL!
You may need the assistance of a mechanic trained and experienced with this type of vehicle as It sounds like you could have more than one issue. That said, a shifter mechanism out of sync with the actual transmission can cause a lot of problems due to the signals the vehicle's on board computer is recieving and sending. The key switch will only crank the engine over if the actual transmission itself is in the park or neutral position (a malfunctioning shifter or cable mechanism may cause a difference in the shifter position and the actual transmission position.) I would begin by inspecting the shifter related linkages and mechanisms (ALWAYS STABILIZE THE VEHICLE FIRST). You may have a bad shifter cable issue or - possibly the cheapest to fix and most likely- only the grommet at the end of the cable may be worn/bad/disconnected. You also could have a BTSI issue keeping the shifter locked up, but that is less likely. There are steps on other videos that explain those issues. A first-step easy, cheap fix for that may be to pull the shifter lever boot up and try a bit of WD40 at the points shown in the video. As a diagnostic measure you could drill a hole in the side of the console in the right position (shown on the BTSI video) to manually release the BTSI lock -BUT BE CAREFUL TO ENSURE THE VEHICLE CAN'T ROLL IF YOU MANUALLY OPERATE THE BTSI SOLENOID!
AGAIN: WARNING! MAKE SURE THE VEHICLE IS STABILIZED AS WORKING ON ANY SHIFT RELATED PART MAY PULL THE TRANSMISSION OUT OF THE PARK POSITION! USE PARKING BRAKES AND WHEEL CHOCKS ON LEVEL GROUND! Most of all, be very careful, get professional help if you need it - Thanks for Watching!

There were several virtually identical vehicles made by GM for sale by Chevrolet, Buick, Isuzu, GM, and possibly others...Saab Maybe? The shifter mechanisms (and probably 99.9% of all other parts) are the same on all those modeled in the Trailblazer mode. Thanks for watching!
