Many thanks to members at GMTNation Forum for their suggestions that helped in digging in and finding this cause of my problem. So, in case the original ignition switch, that you are replacing, is geared wrong to begin with & when you match the gear for the new switch, a new or same problem could still be there on the new install. This video explains & shows a way to correct the gear set up for the new switch. The video explains how this problem COULD occur.
I salute you Sir 🙏✋ your video helped me immensely with fixing my EXACT Problem with replacing my 2006 Chevy's ignition switch housing and ignition switch replacement!! Please keep posting 🙏 excellent and extremely helpful videos for idiots like me!!!???? 👍😢
Bingo! I have been having issues this week trying to fix our 08. replaced this and a relay and removed a failing remote start. I rolled the gap out of sight until the battery light came on. then went back just until it went off. installed switch. works perfect now.
I was having an issue getting it to start, kept seeing the battery light come on before i had the switch back in place and thought I had a loose wire somewhere in the column; now I'm thinkin I need to re-evaluate because just moving the teeth in the same order as the video, didn't provide me with a start up. Going back at it today with this comment in mind!!
I think it is important to note that while you should match the gear alignment from the old ignition switch, with the new switch, it is also very important to make sure that the old gear alignment is correct to begin with. My girl has had 100's of new ignition cycles now, since I did this correction, with no problems.
My ignition switch isn’t lining up. It seems to be off to the side. What would you recommend?
Ahh the SMA Eric O judo chop!!!!! Imo best honest mechanic on UA-cam.
I'm DEFINITELY a subscriber NOW!!😅
Hell yeah! Went through 2 ignition on the 3rd tried this and it golden! Thanks for tip!
Thanks, this correction worked, great video!
I have this problem on my 2006 Tahoe after changing the switch. Thanks very much. I'll go back at it.
Did you get it fixed ?
@@AlexGreen-os6zb Yes, I got it fixed. Moved one tooth at a time toward pushing the start mode of the switch until it felt like engaging the starter plus a bit more. I didn't want to over-travel the switch.
I needed this exact video. Thank you sir for making it and thanks to the algorithm for finding it.
Thanks you this helps me out I’m in Oregon also
I need help hopefully you can answer my problem. My ignition switch doesn’t turn to turn it on what can I do ?
I am not a mechanic, but my 2005 would not turn. A relay located under the center console (near shifter) was the issue. There are several videos about this issue.
I just had one repaced. I have the exact opposite problem. I can pull my keys out of the ignition and the battery light stays on on the dash and my odometer stays lit up. Did they install incorrectly?
It is a very good possibility that the ignition switch is a tooth off.
same issue
I took it back made the shop fix it. It drained and killed my battery.after explaining exactly what they did wrong. They tryed telling me it was my fault for pulling the key out in the in the acc position. Needless to say i will never use that shop again.
Does restarting the vehicle over and over back to back not risk getting the timing off??
Know what ruins ignitions? Having 4 lbs of keys on a ring like a janiter wannabe
Lmaoo my dad said the same thing to me😂
