Just want to say a BIG THANK YOU for a great video. I have a 2014 Silverado and the rear view camera was "foggy" at best. I ordered a new one, and had it in in about 45 minutes. For me,, it made a huge difference!! But then again, I checked the difference in daylight, so I'm not sure what it'll be like at night. But it was so much better I expect that there'll be a pretty good improvement in the dark as well. Your little trick of tying a string to the old one before pulling it out was invaluable, since the pass-thru holes from the tailgate to the truck are in the center, but the plug-in connection is way to the left. I never would've been able to reach the end with the plug from under the truck.
That is awesome, I'm so glad that it worked out for you. They definitely didn't come with the best of cameras, although it was night and day (as you have said) with the replacement one.
Thank you! Helped a ton replacing the camera on my 2017 GMC Sierra 1500! I bought mine from Amazon for $163 CDN. Dealer wantex $320 and $150 to install.
Isn’t it amazing that such a nice new truck needs a replacement camera already? Nothing is built to last anymore, and we accept that with purchases. Oh well the good is you have wide angle now. My 2011 Duramax camera has lines in it when it rains & it is flickering. Thanks. Good video.
You could save yourself a lot of time by simply removing the two screws holding the cable assembly to the camera and plug the old cable into the new camera, rather then trying to unplug it underneath the truck and pulling the cable through the tailgate. I did mine in less than five minutes that way and didn’t have to get under the truck at all.
Mine isn't the greatest when it's dark out either, although I can still see OK with it. Perhaps something is wrong with your camera. You'd think in this day and age they'd be using better cameras.
We just bought a 2019 SLE Sierra. The backup camera is horrible at night! Very blurry and has bad glare. Wondering if it’s camera or the license plate lights? My dad’s Kia Soul reverse camera is better! Lol
I would have to say that the camera was never the best, although it worked. It got to the point where I couldn't even see while hooking up a trailer during daytime hours. After replacing the camera it's back to stock which I'm perfectly happy with it. Not sure if it would help or not in your case, although for the price (in my case it was $100) it might be worth it. Good luck and if you do decide to replace it I hope it goes as good as it did for me.

Glade to see that you got it.
Thank you so much, this helped a ton with making my camera replacement easy. It took less than 15 minutes once I had everything together.
You're welcome, glad to hear that it helped and everything worked out for you. Thank you 🙂

Save this one for future needs. Thanks, Mark.

Checked out your UA-cam, nice stuff. Just subscribed, keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching
I was hoping that it can be fix and not replace
Thank you for the video. Just what I needed.
You're welcome, glad that I could help.
The camera didn’t work after installing the new one. Any guess on what the issue could be?

Thanks for that information, I'll have to remember that for next time.
How's this backup camera holding up after a couple years?
It's the same as the day I put it on. I would say it's in line with what came with the truck, which is usable.
I have a 2021 RST diesel just picked up a month ago and camera is crap. Once it’s dark out camera is wavy

Can you post a link to the camera?
I purchased it from Amazon although unfortunately when I look it up the listing is no longer available.
