    Thank you, Bo!
    Being a retired software developer, I am excited by the idea of a programmable oscillator with an open source SDK. I have no direct experience coding for a synthesizer (except 30 years ago for the synth chip inside the Commodore 64), but plenty of experience with SDKs of various kinds. They're like programmers' toolkits that make it easier to access the functionality of somebody else's pre-written software. Am now looking forward to checking out the SDK for the Korg digital oscillator. Will let you know how that works out.
    Thanks to you and Etienne for getting this old geezer's programmer juices flowing again!
    BTW, those of you who are not coders might want to consider learning to do some of that. A well-written SDK makes it easier, once you've learned even a little bit of a coding language that is compatible with it. Just now found a tutorial for the Minilogue XD SDK here: ua-cam.com/video/ouGBnYXUT40/v-deo.html

      Here's where you can get the SDK. You'll need to learn the C programming language and some C++ to use it, if you don't already know them.

      Followup: I'm not sure I really want to invest the many hours it would take to dig deeply enough into this SDK to do something useful with it. I would have to brush up on my C/C++, the whole build process, etc. I'd rather spend time making music.
      I'm still glad this SDK exists, though, because there surely will be others out there who WILL want to give it a go. I wish them all the best!

    Kudos to the Korg team for the Korg Minilog XD. Finally a really good synthesizer everyone can afford.

    Why can Korg not realizing a step sequencer feature for the Prologue? There are 8 buttons that can providing this?!
    And f*** why they do 3 sim. effects for the XD an only 2 for the Prologue, even though there is the same dsp? The could make Prologue owner much happier with a firmware update.

    Great interview, Bo! You asked some pretty tough questions, but the answers were good and made sense. It would be cool if they made a version of the Prologue with semi-modular patch points similar to the Moog Matriarch. However, Korg is doing some really innovative things these days and that's good to see.

    How is it that Korg, of all the synth companies, has yet to even mention MPE, never mind implement it on any of their synths? Come on, Korg, I'm desperate to get off the computer and the iPad and onto the stage with this stuff... Cheers!

    Good question; I am looking for 16 measure (256 step) or longer sequencers with chord and mono choices on a 16 track / 16 MIDI channel platform. I used hardware sequencers in the early 90's that functioned very well and only cost about $200, and with almost unlimited length (restricted to max note value of unit) BUT these sequencer did not loop. So 30 years later, how difficult is it to produce a unit like they did in the 1990's with a loop today???

    god i hope they're working on a hybrid drum synth as a companion to the -logue series. multi-part percussion synthesis using analog & multi engine would be amazing.

    Nice interview, just sad that XD Module costs more than regular XD in Europe. Might be a marketing strategy to avoid competition through them and original Minilogue. Would love to see of course all these new directions and new synths, but a look in the past never hurt anyone. It would be Heaven for me to get my hands on a Polysix 37/49/module modern reissue, or MonoPoly/Triton...

    You're amazing Bo, you asked great questions! This gives me some hope that Korg will continue supporting my Prologue and do some firmware updates. The graphical envelope that you mentioned would be cool, more LFO destionations too, and the ability to control other parts of the synth from the SDK would be amazing too. No mention of microtuning, but I'm hoping Korg will add it to the Prologue firmware someday.

    I love Korg, i think they have a real opportunity to not only follow a wonderful precedent of product support set by comparable companies *coughnovationcough*, but also craft a unique space for developers and all other users by prioritizing some of these ideas more. this goes for the other concepts you brought up like probability. It also seems like the main limitation is not the possibility of these ideas, but the capacity of the team. Interview almost made it seem like Etienne is the only one working on the SDK, I really think Korg would see huge success if they allocated more people like him to work on these improvements and community building type efforts

    Bo, great interview, and thank you for asking Etienne (at about the 10:20 mark) about the idiosyncrasies associated with custom oscillators when they are put in certain (or the "wrong") slots which may affect patches, since the existing path seems to point only to the slot number, not the specific waveform/oscillator. If you load a third-party oscillator into slot 1, for example, and move Waves to another empty slot, then all existing patches using Waves are affected (ironically, sometimes and inadvertently in a good way, but not always...). This is a negative for both the user and the developer (since unnecessarily difficult choices might need to be made).

    Bo I’m suprised there is no pitch knob for the multi engine oscillator on the minilogue xd.
    Am I missing something? (Yes i am aware of the multi octave in the menu)

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  5 років тому +1

      hmmm, yeah... thats true. I mean I suppose anyone making a custom oscillator could have that as a setting. And making shape knob affect it. Never thought of it as I see the digital osc more like a cool topping

    • @brianreilly6545
      @brianreilly6545 5 років тому +1

      BoBeats ok. At times I find myself starting with the multi osc then adding the analog osc hence my pitch inquiry.
      A superb synth!
