Things I notice as a drummer when he adds the flams on the snare before the chorus it’s cool I’ve never even thought about that. He accents the snare more so that way
Chi’s passing & the subsequent bass player change in dynamics to their song arrangements were irreversible from Diamond Eyes on…Koi No Yokan is a wonderful example of this. That record has the ethereal & atmospheric elements blended in with the groove heavy foundation so well, that Deftone’s fans from the mid 90’s (like myself) really hold onto for comparison. This particular record holds a unique spot in my opinion, as it really does play from front to back as a proggy -esque concept album. It’s just plain bad ass, and as a drummer who grew up idolizing drummers like Abe, really admire his chops on it.
Abe is so inspiring, subtle yet heavy as bricks
Precisely. This is why i smh when people say hes not technical, only an average drummer.
Basically just described Deftones in their entirety.
No frills, no gimmicks...just pure, sharp, melodious drumming
I swear to freaking God this guy doesn't get the praise he should as one of the best drummers ever
He stands out for not trying to stand out.
Everything he plays perfectly fits, in every song.
Such a good writer of drum parts, as well as player.
I love how incredibly intricate his playing is. So many little details
Exactly. People dont get it. The accuracy in his power as well. He's the king of ghost notes. When people say he's not technical I laugh my ass off.
Like buttah!
@@richrobb2977 who the HELL says that?
He’s my fav. drummer. So underrated.

@@matthewgonano636 yes!! I love that, original!
mad respect for abe. love me some deftones.
Abe is a beast behind his kit.
He is a badass drummer
Pocket so deep you can scuba dive in it. Abe has always been the core of inspiration for me.
I swear to God they don't even need to mic the snare over a PA, it's acoustically louder than FUCK
helps when you actually HIT the snare too. Lot of power behind those strokes
That Kevlar marching head, motherfuckers make rimshots sound like rifles

Thx for the video ! Abe is the biggest influence in my drumming
Maestro de maestros!
Amazing control and coordination
I am a drummer and his stuff is super hard to learn much of it . Sounds simple but it’s not . One of favorites -Stewart Copeland move over!

Neil Peart inspired me to play the drums
but it was Abe Cunningham that inspired my style
Abe inspired most of my air drumming.
That is a tight, loud one handed hi-hat triplet. 0:27 and so forth.
