  • Well the weather looked good for a few days, so it was time to head back up for some much needed work on the field behind the cabin. Ferns, weeds, and a lot of briars were taking over.
Arrived on Thursday afternoon after a six hour ride up. Felt great to be back up the cabin again after a few month absence. Had so time to get some minerals out in the clover area and at our mineral pit before a good dinner of shrimp and fries that were cooked to perfection. An early night since I knew I would be getting up at six am to head over and pickup the brush hog.
Friday morning I headed down the mountain for a much needed coffee and road over to Mansfield to Wellsboro Equipment. Got the trailer hooked up, and the instructions for running the Billy Goat! Everything went well going back up the mountain until I went to start the brush hog. Even though we started it a few times at the dealer, I think going up the mountain flooded the carb a little. After a quick three pulls on the starter rope, it ended up just a pull handle and string in my hand. Called them up and they sent Chris over to fix it. He got it running and off I went clearing up the field behind the cabin. Also did some trails that I didn't show in the video. Also cleaned up in front of the cabin and the driveway which I made a little wider.
Returned the trailer and brush hog, got cleaned up and it was off to Tony's in Wellsboro for a nice sit down dinner. Ravioli, meatballs, salad, and bread hit the spot after a long day. Deck time with a good beverage and a Leaf by Oscar!
Saturday I just took it easy around the cabin since it had to rain again. Put up a few things in the Blue Pot Cafe and some general straightening up. Had lunch at the cabin next to ours, very good, I appreciated the invite!
Another great trip with something at I really needed to get done. Maybe next year we will do it again and clear some more of the ferns and weeds out.

Hello from steamy Baghdad Iraq! Former LEO as well as Paramedic working at the US Embassy. Great video as usual Tom. Catching it before the Phillies game comes on. Wife and I made a trip to the resort in the poconos recently before I had to come back to work and got to see our second game at the bank and Rhys Hoskins. Can't wait for the next one. Have great 4th! GO PHILLIES!

Great video! Those walk behind brush hogs take way more out of you than you might think. I have to rent one every year for my cabin up here in Maine and am always shocked at how tuckered out I am at the end of the day.

Yep, know what you mean. Tried to let it do the work with the forward and reverse, but you still have to manhandle it around. Hopefully next year someone else will be up there with me so we can take turns. Stopping and clearing logs and rocks takes it out of you also.

Hi Tom , great to see you at the cabin which looks great after the bush hoggin and the Murphy's Law setback ( pull cord ) .That clover patch has done exceptionally well and should work great as a natural lure for deer. Little fawns is what you want to see this time of year as they are the future , a very positive sign. Fried french fries I will have to try some time . Nice big bear but hope he doesn't get any fawns. Congrats to Mike on 30 years at Verizon. I used to log in and do work on their PBX's before I retired. Say hello to the guys , stay safe and until next time RITP'S !

Thanks Ian, was a nice combo of work and fun. Thought that the bush hog would be too much after a while, but I let it do the work and it ended up not too bad. The fries turned out well, instructions call for 425 oven, but the pan did the trick. I had to do a RITPs while I was there, doesn't seem right if you don't. Take care!

Any ideas on how to provide more food for the game? I read about planting different trees but it seems as if mountain top game are special and it takes decades.

Know what you mean, we did try planting an apple orchard when we originally cleared the field, but they really didn't do well. It does take a long time, that's why most folks go with the clover, or some other type of food plot.

Hello again and thanks for sharing the trip. I am a PA resident and did my licenses and tags online. It went well. Some of my family gets 2G doe tags so we did those on the 24th. Some did close to home in 4C on the 27th. Both times waited in queue for an hour or 2 and grabbed the tags. So not too bad. Can't wait to see the next trip. I have one planned for the weekend of 20th of July to our camp.
