- The Yubari, originally available in a preorder bundle along with the Gremyashchy and the Sims. It used to boast the most fearsome AA firepower at tier 4 and technically still does, although what was ferocious in 2015 is pretty laughable today. Which leaves the Yubari in the position of being a one trick pony without a trick. Doing well in one of these things today is not going to be easy...

Anyone else miss watching Jingles play WoWs and WOT himself. this is fun too but it was funny watching a content creator that has the skills of the rest of us play and not some super unicum
I do not think he plays WoT any more. I am being to wonder if he plays WoWs either. If he did he would know the most common way of going pink is a disconnection to the game some where between you and the game server. Then you get a warning from game while being a pink player for three games.
I've never Played either game, but I still enjoy his videos.
The next best thing is selecting Jingles as your Captain. He'll misidentify anything and everything you sink or even hit. You, too, can be Virtual Jingles!
Not really. Jingles was never a particularly skilled player. However he is a good commentator. I like it as it currently is.
In one of his Mingle with Jingles videos he said he got hacked on his WoW account I think and now lost that account cause Wargaming can't restore it for some reason, so he can't post gameplay anymore

@@aco319sig3 he needed to kill the kirov. it would have been enough for the enemy team to just distract the texas to arrive to the cap a few seconds later.
or the kirov could have come closer, and then he either leaves the cap (automatic loss) or forced to fight the kirov from closer distance (higher chance to get hit).
Believe it or not, it is fairly easy to be colored pink nowadays. If you disconnect for some reason before you die in the middle of a round, the game makes you pink when you return.
Can confirm. If my computer crashes and can’t make it back before the end, I’m pink on the next game.
Providing the game registers you logging back in within a few minutes from a DC, the pinky gets taken off automatically. When you wait a couple hours, the pinky stays.
Other than that, you have to leave the game early or give no keyboard commands...
for 5 battles before you are no longer pink

I got pink few time this year , my old PC had shity PSU , and PC crushed 3-4 times per day , or every 4th battle when O played wows , so there was few weeks until I got new PC , I played co-op to get just those 2 containers ... and still I got reported few times in co-op :/
Yubari has another trick up its sleeve tho, the Aiming System mod 0 upgrade. -40% to main battery dispersion, those guns are practically laser beams. Yeah she only has 4 barrels but if you can aim, you'll hit with all 4 shells near every time.
I got Yubar years ago , but I dont play it , WG have design game way is just not profitable to play below T5 and you cant do missions , and I think that is mad , I have Drednought , König Albert , Cambeltown , Charleston , Katori , Tachibana I honestly dont even thing about those ships , but would be fun to play those sometimes , but I do that damn Somme mission , so I need to do stuff , and low tiers dont count , that really suck .
I bought the Yubari at a time where I truly enjoyed WoWS and loved something that was out of my comfort zone of FPS games. She was a cute lil' ship at Tier 4 where I was still getting grips with the game and had fun playing AA-Escort. Her guns with that aiming module was real fun loading AP with against paper citadels. Oh how I miss the days and regret the money I poured into supporting the game in its earlier years. Before the Dark Times... before the Empire of stupidity.

And we all hoped WG will implement this upgrade for Yodo line. Slow shells, long reload for a light cruiser but very accurate. Ofc WG ignored the community.

Jingles, what makes the Yubari good is a the special Aim Modification type 0 , gives her a 73 m dispersion.
And he won beside a Texas, another formal no fly zone before the rework. 😢 I gifted many Texas to my friends back in the day.

Used to terrorize with Yubari. Super accurate guns. (especially with mod) Set BBs on fire repeatedly in multiple zones while dodging fire. Can nail DDs quite well. And CVs were jaw dropped when you wiped their planes. Have a couple super carries with it. Good old times. :)
Jingles, it was not the carrier rework that murdered Yuubari's AA dominacne, it was "rework" of AA system ages beofre that, that generally blanked nerfed every single japanese 25mm AA gun. After couple years since this wrecking, yuubari and katori got given a special mod upgrade as compensation, that makes those 140mm twin guns silly accurate.
On a funny sidenote, neither of those "tricks" has any relevance to the historical ship - Yuubari was an experiment on how much weigh can you remove from sendai class light cruiser, while still getting the performance of a sendai class light cruiser. Her legacy is alot of light saving lessons that were later implemented in following cruisers.
Well at least that was a historically accurate thing right? The Japanese 25mm AA gun was one of the worst AA guns ever mounted on a warship.

@9:45 you can see the Isokaze turning its guns on target, and the front manages to go off but it misses- if the DD captain had turned the entire ship to get the guns on target faster, Yubari would have died there.
Given that HSF Harekaze established *years ago* that it's possible to give premium ships multiple hull options, the buff that Yubari desperately needs to make up for its single gimmick being rendered irrelevant is to include an option for her 1940 configuration. This would have the typical terrible AA of almost all ships at Tier 4 (or at any tier for that matter), but since AA is little more than a placebo, who cares? In exchange, Yubari would get an extra pair of guns, in single turrets fore and aft. A 50% DPM increase would her a lot of good.
That sounds like a great idea. Only chance for it to happen though is if WG decides to make a sale of the Yuubari. Or is it currently available?

WG could do that. Or they could take the greedier route of ignoring an obvious problem and continuing to sell new ships at higher tiers. All I'm going to say is that if I were a betting man, I know which one I'd put money on.

IJN Yubari did have 4 turrets in a 2x2 and 2x1(1x1, 1x2 fore and aft in superfiring) configuration when she was first laid down, she gave up the single 140mm for more 25mm AA in 1943 and lost the final single mount 140mm for a single 120mm AA gun in 1944
Dont forget that if you lose your internet connection while loading into a game or during a game, while you are still afloat, you turn pink too. That's aggrevating as hell when it happens. Another excellent review Mr. Jingles!

Yubari is a sniper; those 4 little guns are devastating. The torps tiny firing angle takes some getting used to though. She's one of my favorite ships.

Yep, and got the T4 Battleship Arkansas as a gift afterward - no AA at all on that one. Later on I bought the Gremy, too, and used to stealth fire HE with it (when detection range was less than the firing range) at BB's on Ocean...so many changes ago...

In the nearly seven years I have been playing WOWS, I have had the Yuubari on two separate occasions. She was an absolute beast a couple of years back, during my first cruise. Lost her by accident, then got her back again not too long ago. The AA rework makes her painful to play when the fun police arrive. I've kept her more as a legacy ship, but I'm really hoping we get the old Yuubari back. The Krasny Krym isn't as painful compared to her.
The Krasny Krym isn't top shelf, for sure, but, he's a pretty good murderbote if you play it smart.

Yubari is still good at tier, for burning down BB's at range. Even some Cruisers. And weird torpedo arrangement makes for some wild surprises.
I remember Yubari fondly, she was my very first ship as I bought her preorder bundle to get into beta test. She was absolute terror for low tier CV. Sadly, CV rework and AA being mostly useless left poor ship kinda irrelevant...
That's how I got my Yubari also. Unfortunately her AA was made almost useless long before the CV rework. Sometime after the release of the game, it had her AA so reduced that it was only useful while using AA consumable. I remember players complaining about WG changing the stats for a ship that we pay. There talks about a broken deal and getting money back.
Wasn't Yubari at the time the lowest tier cruiser with the defensive AA fire thing, too? Other lines only got that at tier 6 if I recall. Also, Yubari had infinite uses of it, no?
@@asaguda yea it was lowest tier def AA, but infinite uses were on another OG AA cruiser, Atlanta
He did a mistake earlier: the Isokaze got spotted for 30 seconds at 6km, but he ignored it and shot at the Omaha at 9km instead. 1 minute later he gets spotted by the Iso, then gets pummeled which nearly kills him.
his aim was also pretty bad in early game, and he should have preserved a lot more hp.
it was a gamble from start to finish, but the stars aligned in the end.
I really enjoyed this video. Reminded me so much of playing WoWS in the post-release period when you had all kinds of players and all kinds of ships in matches, with frequently wacky outcomes. I used to play the Yubari (though the Furutaka was my favorite) and it was actually pretty fun to drive, even w/o the AA. Of course, the pre-carrier rework was an interesting time, too, when AA actually meant something. Ah well.

Nice to see some lower tier action. It's got all the stuff the lower tiers get that you dont see in the T8 onwards: Pink potentially dick-laden players, newbies, pants-on-head stupid plays... oh and not as many subs and CVs...
I like Yubari's design in Kancolle so it's always nice to see her played well.
I got Yubari in a Christmas container a few years ago and it gave me a taste for "hard-mode" cruisers. Yubari as Jingles says, has no armour, rubbish guns, short range torps and no health, but also no crutches like heal, smoke or even hydro, so it's all on the player to make the ship work, and I am a cruiser-main so over the years I do play these slightly shite cruisers and have a weird sense of fun trying to make them work.

Actually, Jingles - you don't have to work particularly hard to have yourself turn pink. No, all you have to do is have the misfortune of having the server or something between you and the server stop working while you're trying to load into the battle and the game decides you are AFK (because you technically are) - even though you pressed Battle with good intentions. On your side all you know is you haven't loaded into battle - and maybe you kill the game and restart or maybe you do a full reboot and maybe make it back into the battle better late than never or sometimes you don't make it back in at all.
Miss the battle and WG decide you're "a dick" (or just being a bad gamer, shame on you, now you are pink, oh - the ignominy.)

The yubari could also be bought by itself to get into the closed beta test. Which is what I did because it was the cheapest ship to get into the test.
Today the normal way to turn pink is to AFK in a battle or have your internet go off at the start of the battle

2 pinkies. I have gotten pink once since they removed team damage and that was because my internet went down while I was loading in to a match.
The original Yubari was an experimental design, intended to marry up heavy guns with the lightest possible hull. The design was not considered successful. The hull proved TOO light, and needed substantial reworking - which added to weight and slowed the ship down. Nonetheless, Yubari served in various noteworthy engagements, including Savo Island.
In Legends, I bought Yubari early on and, from her, I got my fondness for 'oddball' Premiums. She's one of those ships you cannot play like most others in her tier and class. But a lot of fun can be had - and even a good score if it all works out.
. I've found Yubari excels in two areas:
1. Use her speed and stealth to work out on one flank, then start citadelling cruisers. Her guns hit hard for tier 3-4 and if you find a good spot, you'll get lots of citadels.
2. Basic harassment. Go to HE, and just start clunking heavy units at long range. You're not doing huge damage, just setting fires, but that constant shooting gets to be like the fabled Chinese Water Torture for the other guy. I've seen heavy units completely lose their s##t after just a few rounds of this. Great fun.
Oddly, her AA consumable doesn't crop up all that often for me. :)
I wish Wargaming would give Yubari a second hull option that sacrifices the (now pretty useless post CV-rework) AA and in exchange gets another pair of main guns (in single turrets forward and aft), which is the configuration she was original built in.
Small clarification on Yuubari's intended experiment - it was not about marrying big guns with light hulls, but it was an experiment to find out how much weigh can you take away from a sendai class, while still mantaining performance of a sendai class.
She did have to receive a number of modifications compared to original design, and even before those modifications, her as-build displacement ended up noticeably higher than design calculations called for.
And while Yuubari herself is not exactly the best, or arguably even a good cruiser Japanese Imperial Navy has ever built, the lessons learned from that experiment, heavily influenced the design of following heavy cruisers (so like all of japanese heavy cruisers).
Yubari is one of my favorite to play when I play lower tiers. Its guns are very accurate and with the Heavy HE commander skill its easy to rack up the damage!!

Now, now Jingles, I have gone pink a number of times, I must admit in the good old day for causing damage to someone who sailed broadside into my torps that you could be seen and avoided from a low orbiting planet, the most common way today is simply losing connection and unable to rejoin the match before it ends 3 penalty points and that wonderful pink ship, but that's why you keep a tier one ship and play out the pinkness.
I bought this ship specifically because of what I saw on one of your early videos back in Closed Beta days and now I only use it maybe once or twice a year if that.
Funny how the two ships left standing were once no fly zones that the carrier rework completely screwed over. The Texas used to be death to any aircraft that got near it.

I play WoW Blitz mostly these days and the Yubari on this platform is a premium T4 ship that has 6 x 130mm guns, longer range torps (8.74km but with the same rubbish firing angles...) and good AA for T4. It's still my most played ship on WoWB with a 62% WR.
To be fair i would say at low tier such as 4-6 AA still matters. Its mostly T8-T10 premiums, superships and soviet CV´s that can afford to ignore AA.
regarding the pink names: one way you can get them is if your game or internet crashes at the start of a round and you don't manage to restore connection in time. I should know, as this happened to me and is how I had a pink name for some rounds

If I remember correctly, the Premium USS Texas was also sold on the basis of it's devastating AA Fire. That has also been nerfed to oblivion with the carrier re-work and now the USS Texas is just like all low tier US BBs; painfully slow, a reload time of 35 secs, and appalling inter gun and inter turret accuracy, meaning it feels like it couldn't hit ANY part of a barn if the ship was inside it! Had that Kirov come around the island, he'd still have been perfectly safe, as the Texas would have been lucky to land a single shell on the map, let alone anywhere near the enemy vessel. In fact, had he fired at the Kirov, he would probably have been more of a threat to the enemy ships capping the base!🤣

actually i would say that the yubari is still playable even without its AA-fire tricks. the guns are accurate, decent range and pack punch. the HE shells set fires like the sun. the ship is stealthy, fast and maneuverable. if you play like a destroyer rather than a cruiser, it can actually be feasible. no doubt challenging but not impossible.

imho the Kongo did the right move, by rushing to the Duke he said "come at me Bro". He would've got shot anyway, reseting progress (or any of the 3)

Regarding pink players - PointyHairedJedi's video yesterday revealed that PHJ was *_pink!_*
PHJ stated, that he was being constantly disconnected by either the server or the client at the start of the game, and would reconnect to find himself dead - resulting in him turning pink.
So - players can be pink without having done *_anything_* wrong!

IIRC, it was so bad that they ended up giving it superb accuracy - they had to give it something.
Yubari has another trick up it's sleeve - the guns are incredibly accurate. Yubari, and her little sister Katori are the only ships in the game to have access to the Aiming Sytems Modification 0 module which decreases the shell dispersion ellipse by a massive margin - almost like the infamous (now removed) commander skill dead eye but on steroids. A literal 75% decrease in shell dispersion.
Of course as we saw the shells are floaty so the gunnery also depends on the target being slow or sailing in a straight line - not too hard an ask at T4.
Actually, there is a third ship with that mod. Iwaki A, a VERY rare CL that only a few OG players have.
Actually, jingles, it is entirely possible to adjust both speed and direction and still be in the path of the projectile trajectory.

Jingles, I get pinked at times because my Internet connection is my cell phone hotspot that gets dropped at times and sometimes by the time I get reconnected, the game is over and I got pinked for abandoning the team during game play.
I just take my wipping, play tbe number of pink punishment games, get green again and everything is once again right i. the world.

Enemy Kongou player definitely deserves an assist, because the Kongou is mostly about long-range accuracy, and has a glaring weak spot in its armor scheme. There's no good reason for a Kongou to come alongside and brawl an enemy battleship that might know to shoot under your #3 turret.

I like to go to low tiers for the fun, nothing more than to have fun, once you get back in the swing of the favorite ships you can make some vets, very mad when you sink them when they are so very SURE you are toast then you send them down, to where a reef has been ordered placed by Davey Jones, the enforcer of the seas has an attitude, LOL.
I went pink a couple of times when my HDD was overloading and I had to kill the WoW process just before the game starts. It's such a warm welcome when logging into the game you'll get a warning that continuous behavior will get your account deleted while my sin was a faulty PC. Well you can't have it all can you. They fine you with 4 pink matches btw in an instant so keep your hard drive healthy, just a kind reminder or you'll be playing Barbie after this.
That was a fun game to watch. As opposed to watching the usual train wreck episodes, which are 'entertaining', this was fun. Hey, no subs or CVs!

You say the Yubari used to have a purpose as an AA cruiser, but I would argue it never did.
Yes its AA output was amazingly good, on paper, but the reality was that all its AA firepower (with the exception of 1 single gun) was limited to 2 or 3Km range, meaning that for its AA firepower to work the planes had to basically be directly overhead.
If you wanted to protect other ships you had to be so close as to be trading paint, and it wasn't even any real use for defending yourself since the attacking planes released their payload almost as soon as they got inside the bubble.
My own experience with the Yubari was that it was a cruiser with almost no firepower, that died in two or three volleys and almost always lost its engine to the first volley, ensuring that you couldn't escape the next two. Worst ship in the game, which is all the more disappointing since it was a bonus for buying a free to play game.
when i started playing back in 2017, i got turned pink. a friendly cruiser was getting shot at and decided to stop in open water and sail backward... right into my torpedoes. lol needless to say every one was mocking him, even the enemy team.
The Yubari's AA was actually nerfed long before the big CV rework. Apparently WG took umbrage with there being a tier 4 ship that CVs couldn't park their planes over while eating lunch and "rebalanced" all the low tier AA to nerf Yubari without directly nerfing a preorder premium ship.
