And just a few centuries later, the Vikings would sweep in and connect two hemispheres centuries before Columbus, as well as establish Russia, which would become the single largest country on earth.

Also, one sees many dark-haired Germans, particularly in the South of Germany, but they rarely get a mention...and while I am here, a lot of Danes and Dutch people seem to have red hair. So, it's not just the Scots and the Irish! And the English have a fair number of red-heads... the Danish connection!
This is not well "well-documented" at all. The Roman authors didn't talk about hair colour much, and the Germanic tribes themselves were illiterate and didn't write anything at the time. Real red hair is very rare in Scandinavia today, reddish blond is however quite common. Norway and especially Iceland have more redheads because of import of Irish or Scottish people during the Viking age (slavery).
@BillyThetit It isn't as rare as you obviously think. Red-heads are all over Europe... and not just the "strawberry blonde" variety. I'm in a Black Metal band... travel all over Northern Europe... The Germanic tribes were originally an Aryan tribe that branched away from what would become the Jats. They were predominately black haired but the northern climate has stripped their bodies of melanin, leading to higher incidence of blue eyes, grey eyes, blond hair, etc.
This is pure fantasy. What are "Aryans", what are "Jats" (never heard of those) ? Better study some real history. The only people called "Aryans" who are known from actual history lived in India 4000 years ago. Calling some Germanic / European peoples "Aryans" was pseudo-historic BS invented by the Nazis.
Are you serious? If the change in Northern climate had actually affected a color change in their skin and hair and eyes then why is it that none of the black Africans that have gone North have ever had that happen to them why is it that the Asians that came over to the United States of America to South america, they've never had any changes to their coloring? Stop being dumb
And the jats ancestors are getae from Romania that migrated into India and Iran Sanscrit comes from the thracian language which is romanian. Migration was from Europe to India not from India to Europe. Ask the iranians and the jats themselves 😂.

The origins of the Goths is now well known: Stolarek et al. (2023) and Antonio et al. (2022) both sequenced genomes from the Wielbark culture Goths including samples from multiple sites all over the territory of the Wielbark culture in large numbers. The results are in alignment with archaeological findings, burial practices, isotop analysis etc All strongly suggesting that the Wielbark culture formed through migration from Southern Scandinavia. A large majority of the Wielbark culture samples autosomally carry predominantly Scandinavian Y-DNA haplogroups. The most common Y-DNA haplogroup among the Wielbark individuals was Y-DNA haplogroup I1-M253, characteristic of the Nordic Bronze Age in Southern Scandinavia,

The Catholic Church was Rome's final curse against the Germanic peoples. The forced conversions of Germanic derived nations into Catholicism drove a wedge between these nations and the root Germanic population that still followed the Old Ways. Rome itself was doomed the minute that violent religious zealots from the Middle East took control of their society. After the forced conversions of the pagan Roman population by Catholic emperors, Rome began to decline and only lasted another 2 centuries.

My half Italian / half Spanish wife actually looks Scandinavian. Most likely a lot a Goths and Lombards in her ancestry. I know her mother's Spanish side was descended from Spanish Noble Families, and her father of 100% Northern Italian ancestry has very light skin and blue eyes.
There was a study conducted by a team of researchers from the University of Granada, Spain. On eye colour of Spaniards. The full title of the study is "Iris colour: validation of a new classification and distribution in a Spanish population-based sample." Here are the complete results of the study. 28.5% of Spaniards have Brown eyes. 52.2% have Hazel-Green eyes. 16.29% have Blue--Grey eyes.
They say that like 75% of the world population has brown eye's. That's not true the majority of the world population (non Caucasian) has really dark brown eyes where the iris is barely distinguishable from the pupil. Proven by eye colour polls on UA-cam. Last one I voted in had around 77,000 votes. Black 75% Brown 10% Blue 5% Green 5% So the majority of people pick black when they have the option to pick brown. Why? because their eyes are really dark and look black. Just like hair colour. So really dark brown eyes shouldn't be in the same category as brown and light brown eyes. I'm Spaniard of Galician heritage, I have brown eyes but when I look in the mirror I can see the pattern in my iris, and there's a dark ring around the perimeter of my iris. More than half the people on both sides of my have either Blue, Green or Hazel eyes. One of my brothers has light green eyes. My other brother has Amber eyes like my father. My maternal grandmother had dirty blonde hair and blue eyes.

Have to find out what parts of Spain and Italy. Northern Italy would be more likely to be Lombards. There's also the possibility of Nori/Helveti Celts in Italy or Celts/Celt-Iberians in Spain.
The idea that peoples of the past had more uniform and stereotyped appearances than modern peoples is just plain wrong. The English of today have very significant amounts of North Sea Germanic ancestry, but they are overwhelmingly heterogeneous in appearance, and are characteristically brown-haired in the main - blond and red hair being in a definite minority (especially fast blonds, blonds that remain blond into adulthood). My ancestry derives largely from the Danelaw area of England (especially Yorkshire and Lancashire). My Y haplotype is R-Z19, a sub-group of R-U106, that originated in Southern Scandinavia in the Nordic Bronze Age. My DNA is 67% closer to ancient DNA from Viking Age burial remains than those of other modern people, and is closest to Viking Age remains from Denmark and Sweden. I was very blond as a small child, but this darkened to a deep mid-brown by my teenage years, I have very dark hazel eyes. My Germanic ancestry seems quite strong, but my appearance is nothing like the stereotype you present.
@@maggan82 If you ignore the spread of Neolithic farmers across Europe, then the Bronze Age migrations of the Yamnaya and the Beaker People, then the migrations of the Cimmerians and the Sea Peoples. Then later the spread of the Phoenicians and the Greeks throughout the Mediterranean, the Greco-Macedonians into Egypt, Syria, Iran and as far as India, the Celts sweeping into Italy, the Balkans and Asia Minor. If you ignore all these, then yes things were stationary.
Humans are such an incredible mix of genes 🧬. So many migrations over many thousands of years. What a journey!!! Thank you for your research & video!! 👏🏻
Both Merovingian and Carolingian dynasties ware Frankish and thus Germanic. Even the emperor Charlemagne and his immediate descendants were still Germanic speaking in the 9th century AD.
read a history book to get correction, both were Franks and thus germanic. The Franks are still inhabiting Germany. They are called FRanken and they speak Frankish and many of them are blond, me including. They live in the Northern half of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg in regions called FRanken. One part of the Franks stayed in France, giving their name to the country which is mainly gaulish.

@ Blond Hair and Brown Eyes are found in the Ukraine. The Thing is that in Scandinavia and Northern Germany the Ratio of People with Blond Hair and Blue Eyes are significantly Lower as in Finnland Estonia and the Petrograd Region of Russia. Maybe Finn Ugric Men were more attractive to Blond Women.
this is not correct. Finland has a population of 5 Millions and Estonia of 1 Million. Germany, Austria and German speaking Switzerland togehter have more than 90 Million people, not to speak of the Netherlands with 18million mostly blond people, adding the Flames of Belgia, some million blond French, some million blond English. You have at least 20 Million blond people in western Europe. And with Denmark, Sweden and Norway some more million blond people.
@ It is about the Percentage of the People. Russia, Ukraina, Poland, Latvia Tchechia, Slowakia and Lituania and the USA also have many blond haired blue Eyed People. But the South of Finnland, Estonia and the Region of Petrograd has the highest Percentage of blue Eyed Blondes. I know many „Teutonic“ Peoples will believe in their Exclusive Blue Blond Germs.
Not true. The netherlands, Denmark and the United States of America are all predominantly from the germantic tribe people and have blonde hair and blue eyes
Probably not. Genetic variation originates in populations, but they probably do not correspond to these much later labels from the last 3,000 years or so such as Celt or German. Most of these mutations go back much further. Many of the Vikings had brown eyes, but did have genetic mutations for dealing with local endoparasites in Scandinvia for example.
Not necessarily true, not even exclusively. There are particular subclades of broader NW European that are exclusively Germanic. I haplogroups are simply WHG lineages, whereas R1 haplgroups are simply Indo-European lineages. You can’t really associate particular culture or population groups of particular historical periods without going downstream subclades, anyways. Base haplogroups are prehistoric
@@iainmc9859 Looks like origins of first Arians where on Ural mountains from haplogroup R1a and when exatly mutation in haplogroup R1a1 ocured i dont know ...All the best my friend no ofence
It's a joke. But seriously I think it was the BBC that made a statement like that. Not about Germans, but about the British people having dark skin thousand years ago.
Ancient people had no conception of race or nationality. They grouped together in pursuit of common material interest, not their history or complexion, and developed new languages to bridge, not propagate, their cultural differences. They were not inbred: genetic investigation of ancient "vikings", "normans", "celts" etc consistently finds mongrel genetics. Thus every "tribe" was genetically mixed (except in very extreme cases of geographical isolation) and no tribal label is truly ancient. Using "haplogroups" to try and prove racial continuity is tautological - because haplogroups are defined in the first place as gene clusters that are exceptional for being persistent over time. Tribes were usually named by others after the languages they spoke, thus "the Franks" were anybody who spoke Frankish and the "Angles" was anybody who spoke Anglish. The "Scots" are a bit of an anomaly, considering the ancestral language of most of todays "Scots" was English. Edinburgh was the first major city in Britain where English is recorded, having been adopted in the course of its Baltic maritime trade. I suspect the word "Scot" was extended to anyone from the northwest who couldn't be understood by their neighbours. Just saying.
I must say, this is the most correct comment regarding human populations and our collective past on this video. Anceint people have been mixing with eachother since the very beginning No human group has remained static. Whenever I hear someone say " I want to preserve my race" I say from what period ?
Historical tidbit. Lombards in Old English is spelled as Longbeardan. Literally the tribe of the Longbeards. They established an English quarter in Rome shortly after our conversion to Christianity. We were buddies!
the suebis - a latin word- are still living in Germany. Their name in German is Schwaben. They live in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. Caesar fought against them and pushed them back over the Rhine where they later got the name Allemani out of which the French called all Germans Allemands. A part of the Schwaben moved to Spain and built a kingdom there.
If you knew three words of a Slavic language and were a little inclined to think, you would understand that the name of the Prussians says that they are Slavs.@@EnglishShieldwall

It has nothing to do with Aryan iranians 😂.

Sanscrit comes from the thracian language which is romanian.
Migration was from Europe to India not from India to Europe.

The origins of the Goths is now well known:
Stolarek et al. The most common Y-DNA haplogroup among the Wielbark individuals was Y-DNA haplogroup I1-M253, characteristic of the Nordic Bronze Age in Southern Scandinavia,
Not only by Y-DNA, but also by autosomal DNA the Goths were Scandinavian and the Vandals too.

Well I1 and I2 - I'd read that I1 went up into Scandinavia via France as the ice retreated but I don't know - plus the originally peoples of the region that Croatia inhabits were the I2 peoples Dalmacians ? Dacians ?
the Croats Serbs and Slovenes I am pretty sure were R1a peoples - so it's really a misnomer to call that region Croatia - it should be called Croatian Damatia or Dacia (not sure which) -
I watched a Swedish video of a band where it sounded a bit 'un European' - like I could see the Balkan connection - look at old pictures of Sweden and Norway - they dress a bit different
Scandinavian's are also very mixed with R1a and R1b - so even there they are like Balkan peoples - a balanced mix of I and R
@@TotalFreedomTTT-pk9st Sounds right. The I haplogroup would be the origin of I1 and I2 groups which may have separated after the ice age.

Langobardigoth. Hehe
There was a study conducted by a team of researchers from the University of Granada, Spain. On eye colour of Spaniards.
The full title of the study is "Iris colour: validation of a new classification and distribution in a Spanish population-based sample."
Here are the complete results of the study.
Black 75%
Brown 10%
Blue 5%
Green 5%
So the majority of people pick black when they have the option to pick brown. Why? because their eyes are really dark and look black.

Light blond hair in adults is actually not as prevalent as you might think in Scandinavia, darker blond is more common.
Before the migration period people in general were more stationary, tribes less genetically diverse.

Sounds reasonable. But most people in these parts seem to have racial nationalistic pov's.
I must say, this is the most correct comment regarding human populations and our collective past on this video. Anceint people have been mixing with eachother since the very beginning No human group has remained static. Whenever I hear someone say " I want to preserve my race" I say from what period ?
