Thanks for the video. That was a very interesting discussion. One thing that sticks in my mind is Steve saying "we cannot go back", in regards to the closing of slaughter houses. The vegans are not going back. It is the vegans who are going forward. It is the meat eaters who want to stay stationary. The meat eaters do not want to move forward. Societies evolve. When societies stop evolving they put themselves in the danger of being destroyed. Veganism is social and spiritual evolution.
He seems like a nice guy. Just very confused. [edit] 31:58 Actually no. I take it back. He is just trying very hard to be not an A.H. ... you can pretend a nice guy for a short time only. The ugliness inside of you creeps out without warnings. [edit] 1:03:33 There we go! I told you! You can hide it for a short time, then it just creeps out itself.
Definitely finishing watching this tomorrow! Watched 10 minutes thus far, the way you carry yourself in this debate is phenomenal. Congrats. I’ll definitely be sharing your content thanks for the amazing work... 👍🏻
I want a series of this. Interviews shining light on these issues, civil discussions, and resources for the non-vegans to look into further after the cameras are off. Great video! 💚🌱
Absolutely and there will be many more to come I’m sure! This is what I was planning to do as the main focus of the channel actually with street interviews and such and then COVID came and wrecked all. Good call out on the sources too. There are a bunch on my website www.veganyak.com and next video like this I’ll try to remember to mention it. 😊🌱💚
Great video! Very captivating to watch-although I will admit feeling slightly frustrated during certain parts, but I think you did a good job maintaining your cool and keeping the conversation civil. You did a great job! 😁
Factory farms are local to some people too, and small/big farm animals still go to the same slaughterhouses. Idk why so many people seem to think cruelty never happens locally.
I'm glad you were able to have a long conversation with Steve. You both are great friends of mine. I do agree with you 100% in this whole video and I think he catches himself in a couple contradictions. Ultimately I think he needs to be shown more facts and more research to be able to change his mind. Sometimes people just don't know how much it actually isn't a "personal" decision. It affects others WAY more than it does ourselves, and yea good job pointing out that it's not just dietary restrictions and to minimize it to that is kinda insulting haha
Yeah absolutely. If everyone was aware of the total impact of animal agriculture and other animal exploitation there would be a lot more vegans and they wouldn't just keep minimizing it to it being "just a diet" 🌱💚
@@VeganYak Also.. He said he hates when vegans shove their beliefs down your throat but in the beginning did he say that, it has never happened to him?
He keeps circling back to his religious beliefs that 'animals were put on this earth for people to eat.' An interesting question to ask him may have been, is your wife still Catholic even though she chooses not to eat land animals? Yes? Well in that case, your religion doesn't dictate you must kill and eat animals, and thus this still boils down to your choice to cause/not cause harm.
Yeah that would have been a great question for sure! Thank you for bringing that up. I would have loved to get into religion more but at least we got to it a bit towards the end. 🌱💚
I'd also like to know if he would be willing to try cultured meat (he made a "negative" noise when you mentioned it). You want to eat meat *and* an animal has to die for it?? Really?
Yeah I didn't get his opinion on that but I heard that noise too so my guess is that he wasn't open to it initially. Which is part of what I talk about in my lab meat video. I don't think it will have the impact that people want because people aren't open to it. 🌱💚
He seems like a nice dude. Hate to tell you, Steve, but we all used to be you. Until we weren't, and became who we always were deep down inside: Humane individuals who were not put here to destroy other thinking, feeling beings. Beings who have lives _unrelated to human "need."_ Or they would be things, like widgets. I appreciate this conversation and give Steve credit for talking to you. Thanks for posting this!
Thank you as always for watching and commenting!! And yep we have all been there and then woke up and decided to change. I hope Steve does the same. 🌱💚
He definitely seems to start off thinking it's about him and what he consumes, not about the animals. Looking forward to watching all of this one, hope you can plant some seeds as they say
Yeah there are some points of agreement later on in the video and I definitely think some seed planted. Don't know if he will go vegan, but I tried 😂🌱💚
I cannot stand carnist lip service at all. It tells me the person just doesn't care about anyone but themselves. And the stuff about being against dog fighting and factory farms is just to make THEMSELVES feel better. It's not about what animals go through, but seeing what animals go through negatively affecting their own mental wellbeing. Out of sight out of mind. I used to be kind of an apologist clown when I first went vegan. But then I started doing activism and I stopped sympathizing with the victimizers. Usually with someone who ridicules or opposes veganism, you can have more effect on them than someone who simply doesn't give a shit.
I understand what you are saying for sure. I feel like it's a very tough line to try and find and not cross. You want to be kind and not too confrontational because you want them to listen and not put up more walls but you also want to be direct enough and try to hold them accountable for what they are saying and doing. Tough for sure, and with different people you can be more direct too because they are more open. It varies so much from person to person. Thank you for watching and for your support!! 🌱💚
I went vegan because, Like Steve, I didn't have words or answers for many of the things you said. Logically, vegan is the best choice for Steve and his morals as he admits, but he's sacrificing his morals and the animals for nothing more than taste pleasure. Deep down, Steve is vegan, he's yet to realise and admit it to himself. Great video and great that Steve entered this debate. I wish more pre vegans we're like Steve in that respect.
Absolutely! I wish more non vegans were willing to chat about it because most of them are vegans inside and just don’t know it yet. Thanks for watching and commenting!! 🌱💚
Virtually every single statement made by Steve was an unaware self-contradiction. I respect your patience and kindness in letting him fully reveal his arguments. Thank you.
All this almost abstract talk about "environmentalism" and "local farms" etc... He brings up a lot of things that he'd find meaningless if he was in the animal's position. He seems a lovely bloke but really lacking empathy when it comes to non-human animals. You do a great job in saying all the right things, but some people only want to use defences and not think critically about themselves. Maybe one day he'll change, this convo certainly will help in that regard :)
Yeah we can only hope that they will all change. And yeah it’s always odd because they bring up how they do care about animals but obviously aren’t really connecting with the empathetic part of themselves if they are ok with death for a burger 🌱💚
Okay, first off I believe we should greatly reduce our meat consumption to the point that we don't need industrial farming just family farms. I am formerly a type 2 diabetic who is now back to being pre-diabetic and I get better every day. I could not have done it with out meat. Meat is not at all behind diabetes and or many of the things you mentioned. Processed meat, processed food in general is behind these problems. Aswell as over consumption of refined carbohydrates. I was vegetarian for almost a year, it helped my diabetes but was very difficult because it's not a very satisfying and filling for me. Meat is much more satiating for me. I could eat a plate of vegetables and fish then fast for 24 hours. Much harder for me with out meat. I began fasting when I went back to meat that has worked best for me. Now we know that refined carbs (Sugar) = inflammation = cholesterol = heart disease and many other chronic illness. For instance studies are showing now for people with autoimmune disease increasing meat has been a cure vs taking drugs, look it up. Again do we eat to much yessss we do. Processed meat should be eliminated. As for the environment, the Vegan diet is growing and with that grows the demand for GMO plants. Industrial farming of plants destroying the top soil and and the clearing of land in the same way its done for meats. Basicly the same industry making our meat will use the same methods to now meet our growing demand for plants. I could go on and on, I have done my research in making the best choice for my self to be happy and succeed. Now my best friend is Vegan and she makes me grest Vegan food I really enjoy and I go short periods without eating meat. I'm less satisfied and consume more food when I'm not eating meat I'm less happy. You know what tho her Vegan diet, it's what's best for her and it makes her happy. So more power to her I say. She help me to dig deeper in my research and I taught her things she didn't know like about the autoimmune and the Inuit people who thrive on there 95% meat diet because they can't grow food where they are and plant matter has to be heavily processed to survive shipping up there. Btw the inuit eat the entire animal brain, heart, liver everything that's how they get all the nutrients they are missing from plants. Now something else I wanna mention from the video, there are some animals we don't eat that are over populated and a nuisance. Where I live it's bears. We don't eat a lot of bear. They shut down the spring hunt and now the bears are everywhere. They are Dangerous and people are starting to shoot them. Relocation doesn't seem to be working. They have a taste for human food. The whild bore is a similar situation the wild bore are not native to the area he was talking about. They destroy the habitat for the animals that are native to the area. Just like the Python snake problem in Florida. Anyways, Check out Dr Mark Hyman also Dr Jason Fung and there are many others. Basicly different people need to eat different ways. Some Vegan, Some Palo, some Keto and so on and so forth. I think the mistake is the one size fits all approach. Now beliefs everyone is entitled to theres, believe what they want. There are people who believe plants can feel pain, that's there perspective and they can Beleive that if they want. Researchers have an interesting argument for that and I'm opened to hearing that out. @ the end of the day I respect Vegans for their commitment especially if you have kids and a full busy life. I think we all should be mindful of anything we eat and where it came from. I also think what ever we do eat we should eat less of it. Our population is growing and whatever we choose to eat, it will have to be an industrialized process to feed us all. So we have to come up with better ways in every segment. Food addiction is real and rampant, just like alcohol and drugs. Child obesity and Diabetes is growing. Just be Vegan isn't the end all be all solution. It's soooo much more complex than that.
I think its interesting that you view america/global north to be more modern and civil when we're the ones responsible for damaging the world and heavily industrializing the animal ag industry. Also a lot of americans live in food desserts (and rely on things like food banks which make it hard to be vegan) so I think that argument is already moot. idk. i just can't fathom thinking america is more advanced/modern with the amount of suffering (both internally/externally) we've caused...
7:01 "I'm a religious guy". What religion? Satanism? Well, if you are aware of the cruelty is inflicted on animals and you are ok with it, I wouldn't call it being "religious". In fact, it seem you have no soul for ignoring such a fact.
