    Just a quick tip, Make sure your shutter speed is only double what your frame rate is. so @ 2.7k 24 your shutter needs to be no more than 50-60. Thats why you are seeing shutter skip in your video.

      +Mike Hendrix that's a great tip! 180 degree shutter. I'll need to pick up nd filter. Any recommendations?

      polarpro are the most popular ones, and DJi just released their own for the mavic as well.

      @dev.lockridge 7 років тому +1

      Joe Materese you need an ND filter in order to reduce the amount of light coming into the lens. This allows for lower shutter speeds which add motion blur to your video, instead of a harsh stuttering frame transition. It makes everything look smoother and much more natural. ND filters also make colors a bit more vibrant. Your shutter speed should be double you frame rate in order to utilize this trick If that didn’t help, look it up on UA-cam

      I literally just attended a dji sponsored photo class. They say never use filters. Impeding light will impede quality? I fly i2.

    • @srandall31
      @srandall31 7 років тому

      Mike is right. You really do need an ND filter to achieve a close to 1/60th of shutter speed when shooting at 30fps. This ensure the proper motion blur, otherwise you will get 'rolling shutter'. I fly I2 also.

    Every situation is variable, please allow me to analogize. If you buy a guitar and the sales person tunes it for you, that doesn't mean it will stay that way forever. A lot of different conditions will change them (i.e.: strings stretching, humidity, transportation, and so on), so it is the same with the settings on your drone. Things to consider are wind, temperature, and even humidity, so change those setting (tune your drone) for each performance (flight) to ensure the best sound (control) possible. Stay tuned and Happy flying!

    I've settled on shooting 1080P 30fps - 0-0-0 on all settings None for color & works beautifully. Can't stand the thought of shooting 4K or 2.7K then having to convert when straight out of the camera with my personal choice of settings as stated work really well. Just my thoughts & I really only got the Mavic for the absolutely 'game changing' portability factor as opposed to always having had to lugg my Phantoms around.........Happy Flying - And Happy New year!

    • @morewillie
      @morewillie 7 років тому

      I'm with you Paul - the only time I use 2.7K or 4K is if I want the extra reach I can get from cropping the larger frame down in post...or the occasional 4K video :)

    Some nice ideas on settings - think cinema mode arrived post your upload which is a great pre-set. Only one thing I'd have altered that you didnt mention and the 'Mists..' film suffered for was auto-exposure nastily stepping up and down on you which of course is far from cinematic. Off auto, judge a fixed level and fix the rest in post. Thanks for the upload, I've sub'd.

    Good vid. Thanks. I am finding that 4K 30FPS yields the best results as it maximises the bit rate. At 2.7K it only writes at 45Mbps. I prefer the look of 30FPS over 24FPS too...maybe that's just the gamer in me.

    Nice movements with the Mavic! I would not suggest to set sharpness to -1 tough, where the Mavic will "crush" a lot of detail, wich you can't recover in post. +1 is actually the way to go here (even tough this is not what we filmmakers are used to, to use the built-in sharpening feature).

  • @miguelruan444

    Its hard to use the Mavic in a big city like Long Beach, CA (other than the beach of course). Your footage setting looks awesome!

  • @artillerystudio
    @artillerystudio 7 років тому

    I would say the -1 sharpness is a talking point as it seems to compress / denoise in camera and create softness in shadows. Not sure if you've found this issue?

    Nice to mention the tilt controls, that's one thing that's been bugging me. However, your example videos look terribly blurry. There's been mentions that negative sharpness especially in 2k creates a nasty problem with in-camera noise reduction and it's MUCH better to always use +1 sharpness.

  • @jeffrey4488

    Thank you for the video, however part of it is not correct. The EXP (Exponential) is used to "soften" the response of a drone (negative exponential). You mentioned that 35% is the setting for "Sport Mode', this is correct. This was done intentionally by DJI, because if you get into trouble in "Sport Mode" you are more likely to have an aggressive pull on the controls, and the outcome would generally be worse. INCREASING the exponential makes the stick response LESS linear. You mention decreasing the number to make the response softer. It's the other way around.
    I felt it best to let you know.

    If you put sharpness/contrast/etc below 0, the noise reduction of the drone will automatically kick in if I'm not mistaken. Therefore your footage will be less flexible in the post..

    • @KevinSebesky
      @KevinSebesky 7 років тому

      Lensbreak Studios That's a good point. It's also the reason why I don't bother with 2.7K. I believe it's best to achieve proper exposures (at highest resolution) during filming. And, despite what DJI says, sometimes that requires a filter. If your footage is balanced when shooting you have more latitude for compensation and effects in post production. It will also be easier to achieve greater continuity with your other dailies if you capture your footage correctly in the camera.

    Cheers for the panning smoothly info I hadn't spotted that and works way better on your settings now:) The flicker your getting I presume is from having auto running on exposure or/and white balance. If you shoot full manual all the time there is no change in exposure during your shot, need the ND filters for that though. Thanks for the info and making your clip brilliant!

    Is it just me or do all the 25fps videos are stuttering? It's not as smooth as i want it to be.. it looks like lagging to me. Maybe it's just me or the fact that i am watching this on 144hz. Nevertheless thumbs up for your cinematics and the settings.
    I got one question, why do you downscale your footage to 1080p? It looks like it loses much details and gets rushed by artefacts.

    Great tips...I am a new Mavic Pro owner. Do you have to change the setting every time you fly?

    Whenever I pan my Mavic Pro from left to right (or the other way) my videos show up a jerky as I'm panning. I'm sure some of this is me but where in this fine video does it show where to smooth (or slow) this more? Thanks!

    I understand how setting some options can help, but isn't tripod mode pretty much the same for stable flights?

      +MrEye4get Hi, tripod works really well...but you're limited to 4mph. Sometimes you'll want smooth panning but also be able to fly forward at 10 or 15mph.

    Great information, nice montage, but not keen on the CC at the end.

    Hi all, can anyone out there help solve a problem whereby Ive noticed in some of my footage a shimmering type affect especially distance shots at height of a roof etc. how is this overcome? I'm using Filmora to edit and convert as I can combine both the drone and camcorder footage into one film. Are there any changes I should make to drone settings to overcome this?

    How do you get these settings to save? When I make the changes it instantly goes back to the factory settings.

    Thank you very much for your video. I have watched videos on UA-cam at 1080p and 60 fps that are amazing, they give a kind of 3D touch. But I have not been able to watch videos recorded with any Drone with this format. Have you recorded any video with that format? thank you very much again

      Hi Manuel, I've not shot in that format yet - was saving that for when I film some action sequences. I usually do 1080/60 when filming on my GoPro and love the footage so hopefully the drone footage will look as sharp. I'll do a comparison of all the formats soon. Thanks for the comment!
