Good video with a lot of good advice, and things every Mavic owner should know. However, there are a couple things I do not agree with. First is the lack of need for the gimbal clamp. If the Mavic is in transport, that clamp is important to protect the 3 axis motors from damage. Second is the taking off from that little table. If you were to return to home, or if it was an auto return, it would surely crash. Better to take off from a much larger, flat surface, which must be level. Last is your compass calibration. The manual clearly states doing this in a counter-clockwise rotation, but you are doing it clockwise. I also recommend other pre-flight items, like making sure the sport mode is off, that you have enough satellites for safe flight, and checking that all 4 props are secure. It is also extremely important that the arems are extended BEFORE turning the Mavic's power on. These are minor things, and again, overall, your video is a good tutorial for first flight.
Dana Leasman chill, bro. I take off and land from a GAS STATION regularly. Not only does the hollow ground cause a problem for the radar, but the cache of metal storage tanks underneath mean I get a constant failure for compass. Once I ascend to 30 ft there are no issues. And when landing, the VPS works like a dream. Sure, I lose the ability to tap my phone and have the drone land itself... But just like you said, when have you EVER trusted that? Manual landings have gone off without a hitch and I have about 130 launches and landings under my belt for this location. Although once the Mavic did save my ass with its forward sensors. I was startled by a pedestrian so I took off at full speed directly in line with a power post. Lucky for me, it was a the Mavic and not the p3, so it stopped. I was able to strafe and continue my manic ascent
Dana Leasman bottom line is if you can't take off/land manually safely where you are. According to your abilities. Then why are you launching there? I could land on that table if I HAD to
This is not for dummies. The dummies are those that have preceded him. He is articulate and focuses on basic principles that others' contradict one another. Thank you and I'll look for your guidance on more sophisticated skills, as the experts have been unable to explain very basic points
michael hollander, md Everything he says is general common sense, if you are captivated by his facts then you should probably not be getting a drone like this. Common sense is very rare now days.
Very good and helpfull video. However I need you to tell me something : When you callibrate the compass you turn the Mavic clockwise or anti-clockwise?
Perfect video! Thanks man.. I got mine last week and haven't had the chance or the nerve to try it out. I'm a newbie... very clear language, precise info and well paced. Thumbs up!
I know that I am late to the game. But I just received my platinum about three weeks ago. And after having the spark. I really appreciate the platinum. Better late than never. 🤷♂️👍. Thanks for the helpful video..... new subscriber. I appreciate the fact that you do not have any loud music and enjoy your teaching techniques.
Nice video. I did not read through all of the comments, but it is recommended to unfold the props to avoid the momentary violent shake during take off. Not good for the gimbles.
hi thank you very much for a great video . I have just bought a Mavic and am wondering do you not need to calibrate the gimbal and the IMU? All the best James McComish
Looks like you have a great area to fly in. I just have a few comment that I think you might want to consider. 1. The gimbal guard comes on from DJI. The reason the guard is on during shipment is to reduce the risk of damage to the gimbal. As you noted this is a delicate part. I keep mind on because i dont want to risk any damage. I have a red flag attach to mine to remind me to remove before flight, 2. Check out Drone Valley. On Drone Valley the presenter gives what I believe right on technical information. He demonstrates from an engineers view why flying with the plastic guard creates heat stress in the Mavic. 3. I agree, it's not a good idea the catch with hand. I bought a landing pad from Amazon. 4. Maybe you could demostrate take off options. I use the take off option on the controller. This gives me time to let the Mavic hover a minute or 2 to make sure it has all sats connected. I share these thoughts ideas only to help. Keep up with safe flying. Yes I subscribe to you channel. Ken
This is my first drone. Love it, but I thought I lost it in high winds today. We are having crazy weather in Mississippi. Wind gust up to 25-30mph. Return to home is awesome. I thought the wind took it into the suburb behind us but it landed in the driveway.
Great video! Should I use DJI app or should I use DJI 4 app? I keep reading people complaining about DJI 4 app crushing a lot and generally being a poor product.
Great video I'm trying to sko up as much information as I can before I buy my Mavic. Anyway I noticed on the video when you inserted your phone, that a apple plug was installed on the controller does it come with a android plug?
It is recommended to put gimbal clamp when you are traveling or moving Mavic for a longer distance (not just few meters). I dont have a problem with putting and taking off the gimbal clamp. Just feel it more safe.
One question I was hoping this video would answer, can you use the USB port on the bottom of the controller to a micro usb and still use the Mavic? I tried and had no luck because it says "disconnected" on the app. I'm using an S7 Edge with the DJI 4 PRO app. Or do I have to use the provided connector to micro usb for my phone app to connect? Thanks.
I had huge issue taking gimbal clamp off. Its best to squeeze on the edge of the clamp closest to the gimbal. If you squeeze on the center, at least for me, the clamp does not come off at all. I also had to gently rock it back and forth while pulling up. Putting it back on requires the slits/slots on the clamp to slide over the backside of the gimbal/camera head. I was able to miss using those slots and the camera head/gimbal was loose.
Thank you for your video, I need help after an update I did today it is asking me to calibrate the vision sensors and I am having a very hard time getting this done since I keep receiving an error message would you add a video showing how to do this it supposed to be an square instead of a circle like this video Please help.
Hi, I'm desperately trying to get one of these for my husband for Christmas, we placed an order and now it is in back-order. Do you know who has in stock? Please!
Question: At the end of the video, your cell phone's display was upside down, but earlier menus were right side up. What's that all about? Should not the camera show right side up when flying?
Hey, could you tell me how can you set the image on the settings at phone, because i just bought my mavic and my videos are not like your videos, i mean, the resolution of my videos are bad, the image is a little blurry, I didnt change anything, its like he came from the store .. what did you change in terms of image resolution?
very useful tips though thanks for that wish people all over had that attitude on helping others keep up the good will and turn your phone the right way up next time lol.
Good video. Very well produced and the shots are great...excellent close ups showing detail. (I do training videos for a living). I have been flying for 3 years now...mostly with Inpsire Pro...but am getting my Mavic today. I have been watching as many tutorials as I can to get up to speed. I have a couple questions. 1- IMU - with my Inspire, I always check out IMU read out as part of my checklist, making sure it's within specified range. Is this information available on the app and is this a good thing to do...or is just seeing Normal on the screen enough. 2- I have an older I phone 5S - I'm told this will be compatible with the Mavic system...is the phone too small to fit in the RC Holder? At any rate, your video was very well done...thanks. Definitely subscribed. Mike Meyer Columbus, Ohio (football capital of the world)
So far I hate everything about setting up this mavic pro. 3 days now. tried my smasung tablet 2 years old. iphone 5....nothing i have seems to be compatable. what kind of phone or tablet do I need to have to use this thing or take it back...get something that isn't going to make me by a 600.00 phone to use.? any idea's?
Bonsoir, suite un petit accident (chute) la camera de mon drone Mavic pro n'oscille plus vers le bas avec le joystick .Que pourrait être le problème et la solution SVP. Merci.
I just bought a Mavic pro and can't wait to fly it, i am a Yuneec drone pilot and this is my first DJI product. Good video but this guy is a little too Fragile for me. LOL
I'm still a bit confused, someone please help me out here. Does the protective bubble over the gimbal serve as a protection system during flight, or only during transport? I heard leaving the bubble on causes overheating problems and glare issues. Yet, I don't want to damage the lens of the camera during landings. Any advice?
Vivek Balakrishna - The bubble will hinder airflow and contribute to overheating. It seems that they come with an air vent in them now, so it's ultimately your choice in this case. My personal opinion is that it causes too much glare. I don't see the point of covering a decent lens with a cheap piece of plastic if you want the best quality footage.

Thank you for the basics! So few videos out there that show the basics. I'm a beginner... your video was extremely valuable!
Very good and helpfull video. However I need you to tell me something : When you callibrate the compass you turn the Mavic clockwise or anti-clockwise?
One of the best Beginner guides on Utube
ALWAYS put the gimble lock on after flight. You don't want the gimble bouncing around in transit
Perfect video! Thanks man.. I got mine last week and haven't had the chance or the nerve to try it out. I'm a newbie... very clear language, precise info and well paced. Thumbs up!
Nice and thorough - all to the point. Thumbs up!
Thanks a lot, it's better than DJI's tutorials, they suck!!!

Great tutorial...I do think you should have mentioned upgrading the firmware though because they will need to do that before they fly :)
Scuba definitely! I will cover that in another video since it is a process :) thank you for watching!
Momentum Productions nice I want also buy one, I am Patrick from Germany new in UA-cam feel free check my channel and visit my Trailer Park
You're doing a great job,easy to understand
thank you. so nicely made. a very calm and beginenr friendly approach. thank you !
Really helpful video... Thanks.
Thanks so much ... just got my mavic pro and it was soo helpful
Thanks a bunch! This is very useful. I'm looking forward to using this drone for my upcoming 40-day journey through Norway.
Very helpful for first time Mavic owner. I’m glad I saw this video before using my new Mavic pro!!
Thanks
Thank you for watching! :)
Excellent work. Thanks so much for your efforts!
Thanks for that information. I love your presentation style.
Great Video man. Thank you so much, very clear instructions and very helpful.
very clear demo. i like it when you're explaining and zooming on the part.
Nice video. I did not read through all of the comments, but it is recommended to unfold the props to avoid the momentary violent shake during take off. Not good for the gimbles.
thanks for your tutorial. i found your video is very helpful than others.

kenneth byrd thank you for the comment! I will make more videos on the MAVIC with your comments in mind :)
😀
Nice video! I own a mavic pro and I get fantastic results!
This is my first drone. Love it, but I thought I lost it in high winds today. We are having crazy weather in Mississippi. Wind gust up to 25-30mph. Return to home is awesome. I thought the wind took it into the suburb behind us but it landed in the driveway.
Thanks dude. I found this very helpful.
Excellent advise. Some of my anxiety with operating a new drone has been answered. Thanks!!
Nice Intro. Very Useful. Good demo of calibration.
Just got this drone, along with the Dji goggles. Is it a good buy in 2024?
Great video!
Should I use DJI app or should I use DJI 4 app? I keep reading people complaining about DJI 4 app crushing a lot and generally being a poor product.
great job bro. super helpful.
Great video I'm trying to sko up as much information as I can before I buy my Mavic. Anyway I noticed on the video when you inserted your phone, that a apple plug was installed on the controller does it come with a android plug?
Very detailed review, thx for your effort.
Awesome video - it really helped me....
Hey! I got a mavic pro recently, I am not able to take ground shots. Could you help me doing this? And do you have a video for the procedure? Thanks
I love the compass dance! BE sure to hum a little song! You will get the strangest looks when I do it!
EXCELLENT JOB....... GREAT VIDEO ...
We really enjoyed watching this video. The MAVIC PRO is AWESOME! We had to get one too. SMASHED THAT LIKE!
Some good points, extremely cautious in some areas, but I have no quarrel with safety/reliability :-) Thanks MP
Great vid! Very helpful
It is recommended to put gimbal clamp when you are traveling or moving Mavic for a longer distance (not just few meters). I dont have a problem with putting and taking off the gimbal clamp. Just feel it more safe.
thanx fo the info im looking to buy one how do we charge the batteries after? cheers
Great simple to the point vid.
Excellent job on the review. 🤙
Thanks so much Mark!
Very good starter Vid !! U did a great job!! What cell phones can u use with this drone?? Charly
Charles Cupp Android and IOS
Nice introduction to the Mavic
One question I was hoping this video would answer, can you use the USB port on the bottom of the controller to a micro usb and still use the Mavic? I tried and had no luck because it says "disconnected" on the app. I'm using an S7 Edge with the DJI 4 PRO app.

do I have to register the drone before flying ?
Hey I appreciate your effort. What law rules are there for one to fly this anywhere?
Very nice video.
Does the Mavic have to conneted to wifi like Phantom?
Nope :)
What kind of lotion should I be using to get softer hands? All joking aside nice video!
Agree. The only thing you need the gimbal clamp for is if you are shipping it or doing some serious travelling.
Great video!

Great video. Do I have to calibrare the IMU for the first time?
I heard that it is good to calibrate or you will have problems if GPS fails.
top video,this guys ace,many thanks.
Thanks so much!
Hi, I'm desperately trying to get one of these for my husband for Christmas, we placed an order and now it is in back-order. Do you know who has in stock? Please!

@Momentum Productions about how far do u prefer to be away from metals to calibrate the compass, i get mine today.
Thanks for the detailed instructions! The print on my user guide is so small I cannot read it; thanks for this tutorial!
Good...easy to follow directions.
Best set up video imo
Greta video! Helped a lot
you should always put the gimbal clamp back on for transportation to help keep down unnecessary movement and jolting of the fragile gimble mechanism
Hey, could you tell me how can you set the image on the settings at phone, because i just bought my mavic and my videos are not like your videos, i mean, the resolution of my videos are bad, the image is a little blurry, I didnt change anything, its like he came from the store .. what did you change in terms of image resolution?
Really worth knowing for a beginner thank you
Great great video!!!
Helped a lot thanks bro
I notice that your monitor (mobile) is vertical on 10:08...thats the issue of not updating firmware?
With the return to home will it return where you took of or where your remote is
Nice Video & Gentleman.
Thank you Adey :)
very useful tips though thanks for that wish people all over had that attitude on helping others keep up the good will and turn your phone the right way up next time lol.
Thanks for the tutorial.
Hi is it necessary to calibrate each time we fly? Or the first time will do? Thx
Nice review! Thanks!
Such a good video
What about the IMU calibration?, don't we have to do that first before first flight?
YES YOUR RIGHT, VERY IMPORTANT ASPECT FOR FISRT TIME FLYERS. AFTER HE DIDN'T DO THIS I SWITCHED OFF
What about camera calibration? You should always do that after firmware updates.
Can you use an iPod touch, or can you use your iPhone in airplane mode so calls don't interrupt your flying?

Yea, I think I'll be using my gimbal brace to protect against shock during transport.
What is price and how to purchase?
So far I hate everything about setting up this mavic pro. 3 days now. tried my smasung tablet 2 years old. iphone 5....nothing i have seems to be compatable. what kind of phone or tablet do I need to have to use this thing or take it back...get something that isn't going to make me by a 600.00 phone to use.? any idea's?

thanks for the video !

thanks, plan on getting one.
should'nt the compass calibration be done counter clockwise/?
I was led to believe that you should always fold out the propellors before starting up the Mavic?
THANKS FOR THIS!
I just bought a Mavic pro and can't wait to fly it, i am a Yuneec drone pilot and this is my first DJI product. Good video but this guy is a little too Fragile for me. LOL
Thanks for nice info for me
I have watched my new Mavic pro fly but not plucked up the courage to have a go myself .
